Companies that import boats from the USA?
Submitted by Grooveepants on Sat, 2010-12-04 07:40I'm chasing a list of companies that import boats into Oz from the USA. Please list the ones you know of or have used and what your boat importing experience was like - good or bad.
Doesn't have to be only in Perth. I spoke to a guy at Woodies who used a company in Queensland to bring his over but he couldn't remember the name.
The ones I have found on the net are:

My first Sambo!
Submitted by beau on Sat, 2010-12-04 04:55Went and saw brenz at Tackleworld to spend my Calamari Classic winnings, a $50 voucher, picked up an 8ft Shimano Catana 2-4kg for $70 with chasing salmon in mind. Yesterday i chucked my Daiwa Eclipz on the Catana and took the ski out with a mate to chase some squid in the sound. The squidding was slow, 5 in about 45 mins. After catching a few KG Whiting using some tentacles, which my mate had to bite off because we forgot the knife haha, decided to trolll some plastics around the southern point of GI. We threw out the plastics as we went under the causeway and after 20secs it got taken by a herring then it spat the hooks so i started reeling the SP in just to keep it moving when it got slammed by something with alot more grunt! It hit like a tailor but was running for cover deep like a skippy, but when i saw the brown/gold tinge of the fish coming up from the bottom i thought it might be some kind of cod! Didnt realise what it actually was until i had the fish about a meter from the ski, an awesome looking 35cm juvi sambo! Even though it is tiny compared to what alot of you other members catch, im still going to claim at is a sambo off the ski! Cant beieve how hard it went for its size, alot harder than any salmon ive caught at that size!
I was buzzing for about 10mins after, and i just kept telling my mate i couldnt believe it haha. I would love to get onto a school of smaller fish around the 1-4kg mark, does anybody know any inshore spots or are they not that common?? I think i read a comment from Aussie Breamer that he caught some rats aswell as 1kg skippy around stragglers and mew?

Favourite Dhu- Bait/ Jig/ Plastic
Submitted by Man Overboard on Fri, 2010-12-03 13:45Seeing as the demersal ban is nearly over, and the chase for DHUIES will begin in earnest.
What is your favourite way of catching them and with what bait.
I use live herring but am going to start jigging for them this year. I have a couple of packets of Mcarthy's in 6" baby elf and red mullet, and 7" hot orange, chartruese pearl and the glow bullhead minows.
But i am pinning my hopes on this thing of beauty.

Spotlights
Submitted by silly on Fri, 2010-12-03 11:33I want to get a spotlight for my boat but unsure of which way to go. My boat is a 4.7m trailcraft runabout and I want to get a spottie to do more night fishing. I don't know if I should get a fixed mount one or a handheld. Leaning towards a handheld but What are the pro's and cons?
Next is deciding between led or halogen. I have dual batts so I don't know if power consumption will make much of a diff?
Any recommendations?
Cheers

seafox re wiring
Submitted by Ryan C on Thu, 2010-12-02 13:42hi guys just a quick one to say how good the service is at all boat business, earlier this year i imported a seafox 257 centre console and although an awesome boat (at a very good price ) the wiring and some other items left a little to be desired, so i took the boat to Maz, and Quentin and got them to check it over and come up with a solution , in the end i had the whole boat re wired , all new swithches, fuses a third batteryand the new isolation setup ,stereo, and a full array of l.e.d. lighting put in along with a new deckwash pump and bait tank pump, the guys did the whole job in a week and what a magnificent job they did ( at a very reasonable price )i can now go anywhere in complete confidence. well done quinnie and all boats cheers

LB Fishing - where to go?
Submitted by buschy on Wed, 2010-12-01 21:12Hi folks,
Had planned on going up past Leeman for a few days camping & fishing this coming Mon/Tue/Wed night. Looks like rain might be coming.
Just hoping for a quick brainstorm on places to go that are relatively isolated / quiet for a LB adventure. Preferably within four hours or so of Perth. Was planning to target baitfish and sharks - prob try for a mulloway and tailor too.
Cheers,
Buschy

More sharking
Submitted by Goodz on Wed, 2010-12-01 21:09Look out, the sharks from the barges are spreading! Had a poor innocent sand whiting taken from me right under the boat by a 6 ft bronzie (I think it was a bronzie?) yesterday out from GI. We might have to close the whiting fishery down if this continues.

help with making wind on leaders
Submitted by cuthbad on Wed, 2010-12-01 19:11so i thought id have a go making my own wind ons....
got some 80lb dacron, managed to splice it 5 or so times leaving a small loop, passed the threading needle through one leg of the dacron and out near the bottom splice, passed the other leg through the threading needle but now i cant get the second leg back through the inside of the first. I have been trying for a couple of hours, broken the threading needle, yelled and swore at it, went n had a beer, then came back and yelled and swore some more. cant get it....
it seems when the second leg is essentially doubled by passing it through the needle eye then trying to pull the needle back through it becomes too thick to pass through the inside of the first leg.
Please, what the hell am i doing wrong?

Stradic Ci4
Submitted by danno on Wed, 2010-12-01 15:59Hey all.
I was thinking about getting a combo for flicking light lure around for bream, flathead, whiting and thats sort of thing and was thinking about getting as stradic Ci4 2500 and getting a nice light rod.
I was just asking for peoples advice about the reel as ive heard good things but also bad things about the reel. How many people like this reel? Has anyone had any bad experiences with it?
Cheers
