Targetting Blue Bone
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2009-06-25 15:36I have decided that this weekend its bluebone time out in the Dampier islands. What I do need if possible is advise on how to hook a crab correctly. Have some blue manna frozen just for this time and can gather some ghost crabs at night.
Any help would be needed and someone even told me to super glue a hook to the back of a crab
Cheers all

Northern Territory Changes to Recreational Fishing Possession Limits
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2009-06-25 13:58Changes to the recreational fishing possession limits in the Northern Territory will come into effect from 1 January 2010.
The Minister for Fisheries, Kon Vatskalis, said the changes include a reduction in the personal possession limit for black jewfish and Spanish mackerel from five to two.
“Recreational fishing is extremely popular in the Territory and an important part of our great lifestyle,” said Mr Vatskalis.
“These changes will help protect our valuable fish stocks and ensure that locals and visitors continue to experience high quality fishing into the future.
“The new measures have been approved by Government following extensive public consultation earlier this year.
“The changes will come into effect from 1 January 2010 to allow time for recreational fishers to become aware of the new rules.”
The changes include:
Personal possession limit of two for Black Jewfish and Spanish mackerel
Personal possession limit of 30 cherabin and/or red claw
Personal possession limit of 3 sharks of any species, including a prohibition on the taking of sawfish
Requirement to use turtle excluder rings in freshwater pots
Boat limit of 10 freshwater pots per vessel (when two or more people on board)
A prohibition on the recreational taking of clams

Submitted by Roger Knife on Wed, 2009-06-24 17:57hello again
Just to say thanks to everyone for all the help and support so far, its been awesome how you are all so willing to help...so thanks.
Next questions is....Looking at what gear to take regarding tackle, will buy alot in perth due to weight restrictions on the plane but what sort of terminal tackle will I want to stop some of the bigger fish like rays, small sharks, threadfin (if im lucky), mulloway ( if im really lucky) etc, i was thinking hooks in the 4/0 to 8/0 range and a leader of between 60lb to 150lb dependant on the species. also some wire. Could anyone ehlp me out with this by suggesting a species and then the teminal tackle and rig to aid capture. cheers one and all

Does anyone stock - Harimitsu Sumizoku squid jigs? (NOR)
Submitted by Dasho on Wed, 2009-06-24 07:40For me, these jigs are simply the best, better than all the rest.
Unfortunately I have broken 2 of them casting into squiddy structure. Expensive squid!
Please let me know if you stock them, and I will then contact you regarding the specific colours and sizes.
I'd rather a local tackle shop make a sale before I go looking online.
Thanks D.

Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2009-06-23 20:35A long time Fishwrecked member and good friend of mine has been down south for a few days (supposedly on a romantic getaway with his wife).
But somehow every morning he has managed to message me pictures of some of the big salmon he has been catching and making me envious of his fishing success while I am stuck in traffic or behind my work desk. Bastard!
There will be payback one day Sherbs.(Lol).

Starter rod/reel for young Fella
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 2009-06-23 13:16Hi guys,
My young fella (10 years old) want to go out fishing on the boat with me, but only has a $10 cheapy 6ft rod and matching reel.
What would you guys suggest as a decent entry level rod reel combo for him to fish off the boat with at FFB out off Cockburn sound.
I don't want to break the bank or buy something too cheap that will destroy itself on the first hookup either - he is quite keen and normally sticks with something if he likes it.
Want to spend about $100 dollars or so - is there a medium quality entry level boat combo available at this price?
He can't work an overhead reel yet, and I dont want him to spend the whole day sorting out knots.
Any Ideas?

Ok All You Tackle Junkies
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2009-06-23 12:47I know there are some tackle junkies out there who are right up on these things.
With ICast just around the corner, what exciting new gear can we expect to see coming out?
Do you have any ideas on what new reels or reel upgrades Shimano or Daiwa will be bringing out next?

Somali Pirate
Submitted by Jody on Mon, 2009-06-22 19:10
The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior planner for the Somali pirate ring after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea.
In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Falcon automobile upon being released from custody. The Navy even went to the trouble to ensure his seat belt was correctly fastened.
The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy.

Why this is? Re: Monofilament
Submitted by WODF on Mon, 2009-06-22 18:15Have just emptied the spool of 24kg mono on my game outfit ready for some new stuff to be put on and found about the last half (2-300m) of the line is somewhat strained or stretched - seems very inconsistent in strength. Can anybody tell me why this is? Is their a way to prevent this in future?

Gnaraloo international beach resort
Submitted by just dhu it on Mon, 2009-06-22 13:15For anyone contemplating going to Gnaraloo here a some pictures of the track going in which will have a serious go at trashing your trailer, from Quobba theres 90 km of gravel and sand track before your enter the homstead, the condition of the track varies depending on useage and rain, from the homestead you have to go a further 8 kms to the bay to launch , this is the worst section of track and does the most damage, i would suggest leaving your rig at anchor in the bay if your there for awhile trailers need to be in good order, i put double nuts or nylex nuts on everything, and also let car and trailer tyres down to 25 psi to make smother ride

RIP TLD 50
Submitted by chris_p on Mon, 2009-06-22 10:44headed out of west side of exxy on sat for a troll for some billies, i took my mates boat because its a little bigger and easyer for me to fish in. i set my tld 50 and tyronos 30 up with skirts and headed out towards the 100m mark. make note i have never trolled with these rods without using straps, but i had left both of them in my tinny. it was a slow start until a very nice sive billly came into the spread cheaking out my ballyho in close behind the boat. then he turn sharply and belted the skirt out back on my tld50, but before i new it the rod holder had exploded and the tld flew out the back of the boat and skipped along the water. It was a very sad day for me, the reel wasnt that old and i had just bought the 24kg backbone rod 4 days early that also flew out ther boat. i learnt two lessons, never troll expensive outfits without straps, and never use plastic shitty rod holders. more annoying part was i lost the biggest billy i have seen so far.
