C-Map Reveal Screenshots
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2021-08-13 11:44Here Brocko. Too hard to put these pics in the other thread but below are some samples around Hillarys and Hale Reef as well as a nice lump out of Mindarie. The bottom one through The Gap is running C-Map and Navionics on either screen. Very minimal coverage outside of 22m though.
The bottom shot is the 4 Mile out of Busso.

Madfish bag and Mackie bagout
Submitted by hilko on Thu, 2021-08-12 10:14Had a bonza day with a Mackie bagout north of Exmouth around the Islands on our last trip in July.
Occasionally you get a good day. And this was one of them.
Found a lump trolled it early got 4 Mack's before the sharks took over.
Went and bottom dropped for 3 hours finding new ground, then went back to lump and bagged out on the Mack's in half hour.
You've got to be quick and have a very effcient system to beat the sharks.
The Madfish bag managed all the fish easily and the ice lasted all day (even to 3am the next morning) when all the cleaning and cryovaccing had finally been completed.
It's not just the catching/cleaning boat etc - it's also cleaning the fish with some skin on and cryvaccing that takes time.
The biggest Mack went 1.3m. One of the reds was a Tomato Cod - what was the other?

Ammo Jetty Redesign
Submitted by Ush on Mon, 2021-08-09 16:04Gday all - checkout the concepts for the redesign of the ammo jetty. An oppurtunity to have a say.. https://www.mysaytransport.wa.gov.au/woodman-point-ammo-jetty
I like concept 2 based on the historic design with plenty of fishing space at the T junction. I also like concept 3, as it is the longest of the 3 designs and is curved towards the end (good for the Sou-Westerly winds most summer afternoons.)
Cheers

12.8kg Tailor
Submitted by Mick C on Fri, 2021-08-06 13:04This beast came out on the market floor today.
Even Harry, the market fish guru, said it was probably the biggest one he had ever seen come through. Caught by a professional out of Denmark.
12.8kg or 28.2lb weighed on certified scales is one hell of a big tailor. Didn't get the length, but for comparison the plastic lug is 650mm long.
Update - The fish was 1.05m and a capture photo is below.

kayakers-rescued-off-garden-island-after-man-capsizes-during-severe-weather-warning-
Submitted by hezzy on Sun, 2021-08-01 15:01why would you go out in this weather this morning ?? they both need to pay for the cost of the recovery etc
Two men who went kayaking despite a severe weather and wind warning being in place across parts of the State have been rescued off Garden Island.
Water police received a distress call about 10.30am, when one of the men’s kayaks lost its outrigger in the wild water, causing him to capsize and his EPIRB to activate.
RAC Rescue, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Cockburn Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue were called to assist the Australian Maritime Safety Authority in rescuing the stranded kayakers.

Drop shot fishing
Submitted by Ericl on Sat, 2021-07-31 08:48Has anyone tried drop shot style fishing. Weather looking good Tuesday / Wednesday, planning a trip out wide and thinking of giving drop shot rigs a go for some bait. 1 advantage I can think of is the rigs cant get tangled like a 2 or 3 hook rig on very light line does. Picture attached of a hook I tied using a very tightly cinched dropper loop > hook stands out horizontal to the line nicely. I reckon a small softy plastic hooked through the nose should work well

Project boat deconstruction
Submitted by Silver Fox on Thu, 2021-07-29 08:42Started pulling the lil Whaler apart yesterday. Plan is to turn her into a big open dingy with a 100 horse tiller steer on the rear. The main deck came out in one piece which is great so it can be re used. Just need to dig out the old fuel tanks and all of that damn foam.

Advice on Rod
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2021-07-28 22:08I'm going to buy my boy a Y6 graduation pressie and am thinking a nice combo would be something he'll keep for many many and get heaps of joy out of. He's taken a liking to my Type J/5000 Biomaster or Catalina/5000 Biomaster combos which gives me anxiety when he uses them so looking for something similar.
Budget is around $500 and probably go a 5000 Stradic so can anyone recommend a rod around the $150‐200 mark.
The Saltist 18 PE2-4 rods look like they will fit the bill so has anyone used one of those?
Cheers JF

I only need about a 200mm long cable, does anybody know where I can get the connectors to fit Lowrance/Simrad from please?
I've had a scour around the internet and cant find them and I want to make one up myself.
Thanks people.

Simrad Evo 3 help setting custom depth
Submitted by wagyl on Mon, 2021-07-26 12:27I need some help with my Simrad Evo 3 setting the custom depth. I can use it and zoom on the bottom up to 8X, but if I am in deeper water it reads fine with 8X zoom. I then try and set upper depth and lower depth, so say in 150m of water, I set the upper depth to 100m and the lower depth to 170m but it doesn't read. I have the same problem with my Elite TI so I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?

Icom IC-M200
Submitted by Ericl on Sat, 2021-07-24 13:06Hi
Further to a recent post, I went ahead and purchased an Icom. Went for the entry level unit IC-M200.
Installed it this morning and when I went to test it a while ago, I found that I couldn't select Hi power on channel 77. The manual does say that some channels cant select Hi. This would be a bit of a problem as Ocean Reef sea rescue use this channel
Any advice will be most welcome
Thanks
