Submitted by Big Damo on Fri, 2018-07-06 15:13So i did some reading, watched some videos and i ended up going with the Z man 7" scented jerk shadz in nuked chicken and glow paired up with 3/8 1/2 and 3/4 oz weights with 5/0xh jig heads. Then a z man 9" grubz in neon pink.
How does this sound for snapper and dhuies in 10 - 18m of water

Exmouth advice
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2018-07-06 12:14
Got a mate on his way to Exmouth who has only fished there on a billfish charter previously. As a result he needs some advice on current fishing conditions. I have fished there quite a bit but not recently so I don't feel qualified to give the advice needed. He'll be fishing in a 5.5m plate ali out of Tantabiddi, and fishing with another larger boat.
He is looking for best depths and locations to troll for billfish, and also might troll some divers for mackies at other times. For bottom fishing he can find his own spots and I've told him to move whenever he gets sharked (which will be often based on reports this year!).
Would also like to know where to find weed beds that might hold squid.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

Chasing snapper in the sound
Submitted by br3nno on Thu, 2018-07-05 19:52Hey guys,
So I plan on drifting with a few different whole baits and plastics. Burleying up and in the late arvo.
I noticed there’s a channel or trench a few km’s from woodmans point and a reefy area near the coast (a few km’s) south of the marina. Are these good areas to start in? Or will I see where all the boats are.
Cheers

Fishing Apps/Websites - What do you use?
Submitted by Helen on Wed, 2018-07-04 12:58Hey peeps. I'm starting to get back into my fishing since my amazing trip to Coral Bay. Only issue is i don't have a boat so short of continually going on charters, I need to start working on my land based skills. I tried some fresh water fishing in Dwellingup the other day and wasn't overly successful, so wondering what apps / websites people use that i can start keeping track of weather, tides, and anything useful for fishing. I downloaded the recfishwest app and loving that so far for fish information, but wouldn't mind learning about all the other stuff as well as good locations to fish land based that people have fund successful. Thanks everyone.

this looks a bit ordinary - main roads pumping black water into Port Beach
Submitted by rigpig on Tue, 2018-07-03 13:15I'm no tree hugging greenie or environmentalist but I do know that this is not a good look for Main Roads. They could of pumped that water into the truck and disposed of it at a treatment plant or something.
Main Roads WA investigating “black floodwater” pumped into sand and water at Port Beach
MAIN Roads pumped floodwater potentially contaminated with road oil and tyre fragments onto sand and into the sea at Port Beach, North Fremantle last week.
The incident happened at about 1pm on Wednesday, June 26.
Witness Peter McLarty saw two men in a truck pumping “black water” from a drain opposite the former Ampol fuel and truck depot on Port Beach Road for about 30 minutes.
Water appeared to be taken from the drain’s sump on the road, across remnant man-made dune dunes covering the depot, over part of the beach and before creating a channel and flowing into the sea.
The site was exposed to the sea in 2003 storms, and Mr McLarty said beachgoers had since seen a “heavy black matter on the previously white sands”.
He said the pumping again showed WA’s environmental laws were not being applied at Port Beach, which has been heavily eroded, exposing historic dredging rubble and contamination including asbestos, since January.

Trailer roller refurb
Submitted by Patriot on Tue, 2018-07-03 12:36G'day all
I have a roadmaster trailer that has good running gear and I have just overhauled the brakes, so in general it's in pretty good nick.
But I am not happy with roller/slide set up for my 6.8mt Haines, and want to upgrade.
just wondering if anyone knows of a place that does this type of work and will install a roller set to suit my boat. (Not just provide the gear)
thanks all!!

Reel ID
Submitted by Jrod1 on Sat, 2018-06-30 18:57Can anyone tell me the model and approximate year of this Penn Reel? My old man has had it for years.
Also have an old Spint which was my pops, I used to use it surf fishing on the east coast and it still works perfect. Does anyone know what happened to Spint?
Although past their time, both these reels handle the test of time better than any of the new stuff!

Are they there now or is spring/summer the best time to get them there?
Also, does anyone have a diagram or can describe the rig Doug Clegg used to use, cant find it anywhere.
Thanks in advance

Tying off braid when snagged
Submitted by Alan James on Thu, 2018-06-28 18:15Does anyone have an ingenious way of tying off braid when snagged up bottom bouncing. I'd rather not lock up the drag on the reel and hold on tight. Whilst I have done this before it is probably not particularly good for the reel. I've tried gloves but can never seem to find them handy when I need them. Of recent time I've been crisscrossing the braid in a figure 8s on a boat cleat and letting the boat do all the work but that's not always as easy as it sounds if you don't get enough wraps on the cleat quickly enough. A short piece of dowel, 200-250mm long, broom handle size and doing the crisscross method with that may be the way to go but I thought I would ask on here if anyone has a simpler solution. I don't want to reduce the breaking strain of my leader / trace material which is normally around the 80lb mark. Most times I find that either that breaks at a knot or the hooks straighten and I'm fine with that. It's finding a way of safely and quickly locking up the braid in a hand held device that I'm after.

Stradic SW PG
Submitted by D_d_001 on Wed, 2018-06-27 17:03Will be giving this little guy, hopefully a flogging at the Monties soon.
Not to dissimilar to the FK but much better suited jigger being a PG. and comming standard with a jigging handle
No stupid antireverse switch. (never a fan)
Carbon Drag and a few extra O-rings to make it a bit more watertight.
If it stands up as well as previous stradics it will be a great low priced jigger.

broken jig rods?
Submitted by D_d_001 on Wed, 2018-06-27 08:46Hey Guys
Hoping someone will have a broken jig rod that they don't want anymore. Have a few repairs I'd like to do on my my own gear and need something to practice on ....not really after big diameter surf troll rod etc. so was really wanting to strip the guides etc and "make" a practice rod, so would rather if you still had whole rod even if it's in a couple of pieces. Certainly dosn't have to a premium rod or titanium guides or anything expensive like that just something similar to what my repairs will be.
more than happy to exchange a few beers or whatever.
