Off Hillarys today
Submitted by Ryan C on Wed, 2017-10-11 19:08Went out solo today as my deckie was worn out ! Ended up in the 40s of hillarys jigging blue Macks out of a 25m thick school on baitjigs for the freezer ( future bait ) then went to one of my sambo lumps for some arm stretching! Freezer is chock full of bottom fish so I wasn't really interested in any today , sambos were thick and got bigger and bigger until I'd caught one on all of the outfits I had onboard and I'd had enough. Good day out had fun. Saw Zoom (Fw member ) out there too.

Bunbury Pink
Submitted by Aquadisiac on Wed, 2017-10-11 07:46Managed to sneak a line in while checking some fuel issues on the boat on Monday off of Bunbury.
Didn't go too far as I'm not convinced I'm over them yet but managed to pick up a nice pinky at about 970 long and dropped a couple other good fish.
Got a few undersize snapper and a couple big skippy.
Not bad for a couple hours run.

Wind Effect On Casting
Submitted by Fishn n Ridin on Tue, 2017-10-10 21:44I have been fishing off Coogee jetty quite a lot in the evenings and the wind has been quite strong. This has resulted in the line going out 90 degrees to my side (with the sinker being cast out in front of me) when I cast. The other fishers I've seen there casting out have had their line go straight out in front following their sinkers perfectly in the same conditions (still spinning reels, not baitcasters). I have tried Sealine 12lb line, Pre-test 4kg, Penn Mariner 20lb line, Gillies 8lb line and an old 10kg polyamide line and all have had the same problem. All those lines are mono, would braid help? What can I do please to help my line cast better in strongish winds.?
Thanks

N.S Blackhole Blackwater Egi Rod
Submitted by Alex15733 on Tue, 2017-10-10 16:34hey guys, ive made a few egi forums before and got advice and now ive finally went and tried a rod. I was eging with my normal rod and another fisherman was near me who was also eging and he looked like he knew what he was doing (im still pretty bad at egi) so i asked him about his rod and it was the NS blackhole the one i was opting for so i asked if i could have a try, he let me it felt sturdy and had god action and weight.
so my point is have any of you had the rod and is it durable and reliable? And i cant find out if its carbon or graphite or something else if its carbon ive never had a carbon rod what is different with them
Thanks For All The Help On The Egi Forums Ive Made

Last gasp effort tomorrow before the ban
Submitted by z00m on Tue, 2017-10-10 15:37Heading out solo tomorrow to try and get some demersals before the ban on the 15th (really 16th now with go fishing day!).
Hope the weather plays the game.
Anyone else heading out?
--------------------------------------
UPDATE
--------------------------------------
The day wasn't a total waste. Ended up with a 51cm KG and a 78cm pink that fell to a live snook. Snook didn't even get to the bottom before he 'snapped' it up (you see what I did there?).

Fisheries WA stop the thieving, again
Submitted by meglodon on Mon, 2017-10-09 21:49Yes yes yes, today on Facebook there is a heart warming story of how fisheries have struck again in bringing bloody cray thieves to account.
The story goes on about a certain thief who decided that lifting a pros cray pots, taking the catch that they held, then replacing the pros floats and ropes with his own.
The Fisheries caught up with him near Coventry reef apparently.
For his trouble he (Mr Jason Keith Knowler) now restricted to land based activities was fined $10.000 lost his boat named Red Barron together with the boat trailer plus all the gear associated with the boat was confiscated
As well as being banned for life from holding a rock lobster licence.
Well done Fisheries a bloody great job.
I love a story with a good ending.

Deep Drop - Satellite Phone Option?
Submitted by snuffs on Mon, 2017-10-09 12:13Looking for thoughts on usefulness/viability of using a Marine Satellite Phone as an additional boating emergency device (on top of the usual VHF radio/EPIRB/Flares etc.) when deep dropping in areas outside of usual VHF repeater range.
Whilst I get good VHF reception out the back of Rottnest Trench using the Rotto repeater station, when I'm out very deep on the Northern Trenches I don't seem to get reliable VHF reception. I have a suitable VHF antennae (so don't expect an upgrade here will resolve) ... so looking into whether a Satellite Phone as an onboard emergency device would mitigate remaining risk?
Has anyone pondered buying one, or can provide some thoughts on whether this is suitable? And operating costs etc. Or other alternatives to consider.
Cheers
John

Looking for plotter
Submitted by Silver Fox on Mon, 2017-10-09 07:51Good day to you all. My Trimaran project is fast coming to an end ( whooo hoo ) . What I'm looking for now is a plotter sounder combo to give me a nice navigation platform , not overly worried about sounder capabilities general depth is all I really need . Yet a half decent plotter would be nice. I'd like to spend about 1 k on said outfit ( card included) . Any ideas ? Raymarine Dragonfly 7 looks pretty good , yet I'm not too sure if I'm needing that sort of sounder for a cruising Trimaran . Another option is to remove my Navman Trackfish 6600 from my centre console , use that for trimaran and upgrade for the fishing mobile. Ta

Electric Combo Deals
Submitted by Oceanside Tackle on Fri, 2017-10-06 17:55For over 9 years now shop owner Ryan Thipthorp has specialized in Deep Drop fishing. Ryan's favourite reel has been the Daiwa Megatwin 750 (2 speed) and has served him well all this time.
He prefers the 750 over say a 1000 size purely as its more compact and easier to hold when fighting fish manually. The reel holds plenty of line and to quote Ryan "I've never seen the bottom of the spool even in 500m plus"
So when the New Daiwa Seaborg 800MJ Megatwin (2 Speed) reel was released it was a no brainer to buy this New model for himself and for the shop also.
Whilst Ryan's never had any issues with the old model 750 the New Daiwa Seaborg 800MJ Megatwin (2 Speed) reel has even more features including a upgraded drag system and a upgraded larger motor etc

Bret Carter
Submitted by scotto on Fri, 2017-10-06 10:23So, by reading the facebook updates, it seems Fisheries are finally showing how spiteful they really are, and after nearly 3 years, are finally going after a conviction against Bret Carter.
Even though the Fisheries Minister has acknowledged an issue with the legislation (he has demanded Fisheries and RecFishWest review the legislation to make it more equal, before October 15th), Fisheries are opting to push for a conviction as soon as possible. By the sounds of things, he now has 2 options:
1). Cop a reduced (but still very hefty) fine, or
2). fight the charge again in the magistrates court.
He is apparently starting up a go-fund-me page to fight the charge (again...), and when it pops up, I will post it up here as soon as I see it.
I'm hoping there is a few people on here that will dig as deep as they can to help not just him, but the cause, and the injustice. Even if its only a few $$$'s will help, especially if everyone jumps on board.

outboard service
Submitted by wez0062 on Fri, 2017-10-06 07:45hey guys,
i have just had my outboard serviced but feel a bit ripped off, as none of the grease points on the motor appear to have been greased. Can see no vissible signs of fresh grease oozing out, like i normally see when i do my own regular maintenance. After paying $700.00, i am thinking i wont use that particular moble marine mechanic again

Tomorrow, Friday 6 Oct Weather
Submitted by SpotHound on Thu, 2017-10-05 14:51I am hopeless at reading websites, tommorrow was looking good.
But over the last couple of days the wind estimate has picked up.
Is it going to be fishable in a 14' boat? I have the wife in tow and she probably
wont like being anchored oytside of the snapper ban zone around stragglers/mewstones ??
