Good fun in the new crusher

Had a pretty good night fish in the 40's off hillarys fri night with some smallish pinks , monster sambos and a pB red snapper , then came in for a few hours sleep before heading out for another session yesterday in close on light gear then out to the 40/50's off hillaries agsin , got a ripper sambo in 14m on 10lb jig  plus some skippy to 60cm and some unstoppable beasts then a couple of smallish dhu and a good Baldie out deeper later plus a couple of sharks and several more sambos .just dropped of the boat to be prepared for display st the boat show this weekend. Racked up 30 hours since picking it up last Friday afternoon!

Accessing fish id guide

Just trying to have a look through the fish identification guide n when I click on it it says I'm not authorised to access.

Is this because of loosing images that were on photo bucket or has else something changed ?

Good Burley Recipe For Herring

Back in the tagging game

Went out with frank (froos) on here.left hillarys about 3 pm.burlyed up then got a just undersize pinkie, got the tagging kit out (thought it was a jinx).its was slow 2 small dhus and a fugu.haven't  been getting much lately  so i rigged up a snell rig with 15 kilo mono trace, 10 kilo line.put it out just before dark.got a huge hit and run and got this 800 big fat pinkie.it was touch and go for awhile.we had 5 lines turned into macrame.fished on fir awhile and left.perfect night out and there was lots of boats out.

baby steps - deep dropping

mmmm, well its been well documented for my entry into the deep drop fishing scene......

it started off with a naught, but then a bang and a 37kg puka...... sadly as most of you, (if you read my posts) i have struggled since and 7 trips since account for 0. It was apparent it seemed each trip i would make signifiance steps in the right direction, whether albiet ground, fish on sounder , learing to understand setting driffs, understanding sounder settings you named.....there is too much to learn!

well yesterday, a crewman pulled through and off we went, with a lil bit of confidence in my step with the soundings i found last week, high hopes were had.the easterly was far more sloppy then predicted for the morning, anyhoo of pushed.....

i struggled quitr hard sounding in the short sharp easterly chop out there, still the wind started settling around 11 am. just a magnitude of green eyes. cant get away from the bastards.

come 5pm we had hit all mysoundings from the week before for 0......nothing, and even tried the 450-500 for nothing bar XOS green eye. I started cracking the shits big time and basically said, we are going on, we will sound the 200-220mline for a few miles before heading in. after about 10 mins of sounding something odd  came up on the sounded after the 220m edge. It looked what i thought was coral and soft structure on a much harder bottom..

last drift then in i tell the decky. i drop = green eye  he drops = dropped a good fish just after hook up..... hmmmmm , one last drift on sunset then.

i go first and instantly on the bottom i finally have head shakes........ and a few mins later up popped my first 15 kg greyband.....about time its beeen along time between fish in terms of my deep dropping ( i think 6 full days out there), a frustrating thing for me was i completely messed my sounder settings up mid morning and didnt get reading the way ilike till the 200 sounding!

so end result, another slow day,  but i did learn a bit in terms of some skills i need to suss to get this deep drop code cracked...... absolutely gutted i couldnt find any of the showins from last week but its all a learning curve

So, 2 down, 2 to go!

GREYBAND 15kg

PUKA 37kg

PERTH METRO BASS  (i have caught a few 40+ in NZ) ???????

BLUE EYE ????

Freezer Recommendations

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a decent, reliable upright freezer, around 200 litres, that I can expect to last for a few years.

My Westinghouse upright has died, found out Tuesday when I went to get some fillets out for a feed. Although everything had defrosted (Dhuie, red emperor, bluebone, robbo, rankin, est cod, cobia, wahoo, redthroat  and more as well as chicken, chops, steak and roasts) everything was still cold and hadn't yet gone off. Couldn't re-freeze, but at least I was able to phone family and mates and give it away before it bad.

Freezer is only a little over 7 years old.

Went to a local retailer last night and there was a selection of only 3 brands, Westinghouse (that I wouldn't be keen to buy again), Haier or Hisense.

Salesman reckons life expectancy of any of these is only 3 to 6 years, hardly woth considering if that is the case.

Any recommendations ? Needs to be upright, don't have floor space for chest type.

Thanks in advance.

Bernier Island Trip - Carnarvon

Update on S9 and Trip with link to photos & video

Sorry folks but only just had chance to coallate and respond to queries above.

I have attached a link to Photos, Video, Costs of our trip to Bernier Island 50KM west of Carnarvon in new Sailfish S9.

Included costs incase any body planning a similar trip, and show fuel usage /day (first fill $409.60 top up low tanks) we budgeted $1200 each, came in at  $1173 per person (4 in Sailfish) (3 in Legend)

Recommend Carnarvon Motel, they were great giving us 2 rooms at back of motel for 5 days and an area to park boats with washdown facilties, let us use our weber bbq as well as dining in the motel buffet, not to mention the hot showers, tv, double beds, aircon.

Yep were all old boys (45-55) and want to fish in comfort these days, done my time in caravan parks in swag.

The trip was just fantastic with the boat performing to all my expectations. Weather was great for first 3 days, Blew out wednesday which was good as a lay day, make rigs

fix dek wash, snooze, old boy fisho's worn out.....

Fishing was harder Thu/Fri due to swell, found best way to get baldies was to duck close into cliffs (50m) between swell drop and idle back out (always skipper on helm). Pretty well bagged out each day except first, took a while to find fish.

As requested above Photos of Gauges at 27.3Kn at 4000rpm burning 0.9L.km (53.7L/hr for both 200hp yamies)

Magpie Debate

 Just putting it out there.

Great White kills ........ they are protected and when you swim in their water you take that chance.

Magpie blinds toddler...... they are protected and you take your chances whenever in their territory and yet they kill the bird.

New Member introduction..

Gday All, been hanging around here enough for last couple of weeks, thought I better post and introduce myself.

Live and fish out of Karratha way so pretty lucky there. Boat wise I'm just downsizing from a 23ft Key West to a 615 Bar Crusher side console that should be ready in next few weeks - decided I need something for both creeks / mid range off shore that I can easily put in myself.

Picked up some pretty good tips already from posters here so looking forward to contributing a bit more. Pretty good bunch of people in general WA fishos.

Lastly, in the interest of disclosure I thought I'd better warn everyone that Ive got crabs (caught a couple of weeks back).. Apparently theres shampoo or something that can get rid of them but these are a bit bigger than normal... :)

Finally worked out how to add a photo so I'll put some warning shots up so you know what to look for..

Cheers.

Evinrude G2 recall

Sounds bad that the gearbox could fall off! Saw them building them the other night on 'how it's made' and no mention of this being a feature

Micro jigging help.

Hi everyone, i recently baught myself a curado 70 with 10lb pe 0.6 braid. I have been micro jigging small pinks, skippy, tarwhine etc of the boat. I want to get a gomoku for it but since they dont sell the green in overhead anymore, would the erito be to heavy? main target fish is 0 - 4kg but sometimes i might have fun on big pinks or salmon. Thanks.

**Future Solar WA** Do you still not have Solar Power yet? More rises coming

As you should be well aware there will be more pain on your power bill over the coming weeks, months and even years.

With articles in Saturday's West Australian and again in Mondays issue, be prepared for more pain.

I think we all know it's coming, but don't you think it is now time to act.

With a further 12% looking close and the general consensus still saying that power bills are likely to double in the next 10 years why would you not have a solar system on your roof.

Give me a call and let me work out your savings and how long it would take to pay off.

Most systems will pay themselves off within 36 months, sometimes even less.

If you want a quality system with the best panels give me call (email, PM, or answer to this post)

Australian Junior Billfish Tournament

Please see below the tournament flyer for the upcoming Australian Junior Billfish Tournament in Exmouth.

Last year we had competitors travel from Qld, Vic & all over WA with 3 kids catching their very first billfish with the youngest competitor a smallfry male aged just 6.

I would encourage you to consider (even if you don't have kids of your own) to take a neice / nephew / grandkids / friends kids etc fishing to experience the addictive pastime that is Game Fishing.

Nowhere else in Australia has the close proximity to the fishing grounds and the numbers of billfish than Exmouth, making it the perfect venue to host this tournament for junior anglers.

The event coincides with the school holidays.

The cost is only $50 per junior angler which includes a tournament shirt.

Brendon from Innkeeper Charters has these dates available if you would like to take advantage of his local knowledge and expertise.  He can be contacted on 0437 579 448.

For further information about this tournament you can contact Scott on 0487 409 355, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

I have become Dhuish

So a couple weeks ago a couple of mates and myself decided to head a couple hours north of Perth and chase some dhuies from the kayaks. I arranged to finish work in Pinjarra a couple of hours early so I could get up there at a reasonable time. I got to the spot and set up camp and then got the yak ready to launch in the morning. Forecast was 15kts sse but when we got up the wind was around 5 kts from the south, not even enough wind to sail :(

We fished about 6 hours on the first day and about 4 on the second.Tally for me on the first day was 4 dhuies in depths ranging from 4 to 10 mts. My dhuies for the day were 65, 73, 83 and 89cm. Only one of the other guys caught a dhuie and he also got a sized sambo.

On the second day I headed out to the drop off about 5 kms off, I got 2 dhuies in quick succession in a matter of 30 minutes. The first was 89cm and 13.5 kg and the second was 55cm released. Makes the trip well worth it.

5 of my fish were caught on a Big John's Jigs 1 oz Shad head with a 5/0 hook and an Abrohlos Tackle 5 inch Mcpaddle in white. 1 was caught on a gold metal jig.

Fish were caught between 4 and 10 mts water.
