Salmon schools
Submitted by lachieH on Mon, 2014-08-25 15:41Hi everyone, I know prime salmon time is about half a year away still but I want to be ready to go when it comes. My question is how do you find schools of salmon? Do you drive on coastal roads from perth to south until you see one? Is there any tricks to finding them?

Turtle in the sound
Submitted by dansyy on Mon, 2014-08-25 14:20Was at work a few weeks ago when i saw this old fella, must have been 1.5-2 metre shell diameter (im quite high up in this pic).
This is in the sound near rockingham, was awesome seeing him he swum around for a bit then dissapeared. Are turtles that big rare sightings this far south?
Rushed snap off the iphone, apologies for bad quality.

Can anyone make me a sticker for my custom rod?
Submitted by Daniel_P on Mon, 2014-08-25 10:41Hey all, I'm getting a new rod made but I would like to have my name and a wahoo on there. The rod builder suggested me to find them because he didn't know anyone who would do it, so if you have the printer or know someone that can do it I am more than happy to pay for it, cheers :)

Mid Range Casting Lures
Submitted by jayce on Mon, 2014-08-25 08:17Hi All
Just wondering ehat mid size stickbsits and poppers everyone is using at the moment.
I am going to ningaloo and trying yo fill the lure box a bit more before I go. Wanting yo target Spangos, Trout, Queenies, Trevs and anything else that will take a lure.
I already have some Maria blues codes and bullchops aswell as some smaller Strada poppers and assorted diving lures.
Whst can people rrecommend? I will only be fishing them on 15lb so want to stay around the size of bullchops. Would like to use the lures for tailor and salmon when I get back aswell.
Cheers Jayce

Fish in freshwater canning river
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2014-08-23 16:33Just a random question what fish are in the canning river? At the freshwater part and near the kent street weir? I saw this www.smh.com.au/environment/save-our-swan/giant-feral-goldfish-invade-was-river-systems-20131011-2vcwk.html and thought that I could catch fish this big there if I was lucky. I know there is carp and koi and chichlids in the freshwater part. And is there any redfin or trout in the system?

Gosen J Square braid
Submitted by dkonig82 on Fri, 2014-08-22 20:14Just wondering if anyone has used the Gosen J Square braid? What's it like?
Can't seem to find out online whether it is a 4 strand or an 8 strand. Looking for some PE2 to chuck on a Stella 4000 FI. Has to be colour coded as I will jig with it a lot but it will also see some casting.
Was just about to buy Sasame 8 carrier, but thought I'd see if anyone had good experience with the Gosen.

Sailfish / Marlin Rig
Submitted by jayce on Fri, 2014-08-22 19:04I have got most of my gear sorted now for targeting a few sails and baby blacks on a upcoming trip to Ningaloo.
The only thing i forgot to ask the boys at oceanside when i was there was do you go to a big clip swivel on the end of your wind on.
Josh and the boys spooled my reels up for me and Josh tied a couple of Richter wind ons on for me and i bought a couple of pre rigged richter skirts.
Do i go wind on to big shogun clip to the leader on the lure? And if thats the case whats the best knot to tie the swivel on with? Would the chain knot i use for jigging be fine?
Cheers Jayce

Octopus trap
Submitted by Ericl on Thu, 2014-08-21 16:26Hi
Just finsished making my occy trap. It's made of 2 x 100mm PVC pipes , 400 long attached to each other and plugged at the back end with concrete plugs held in place by galvanised bolts. It has a frame below weighted down with lead sheet. I have 2 pieces of angle at the back which I hope will force it fall in the correct way. I have some galvanised wire rope bolted to the front end and a float on the rope attached to this harness to try and keep it all out the way so the occies wont be fearful of going in
I will be deploying it off Ocean Reef marina. Hope it wont be stolen.
I'll report back on whether its succesfull
Cheers

Stocking farm ponds
Submitted by sheldoncy23 on Thu, 2014-08-21 13:47Hey lads didn't know where else to out this but I work in my aunts farm every so often and she has a large dam in ine if the paddocks that seems to hold water through the year especially now it's almost flooded. The water is brackish and murky and the bottom is mud. We were thinking if stocking some fish in there but no idea what would survive it's down in boddington and the water is almost constantly freezing so options are limited. There already a heap if Marron and yabbies living in it that seems to be thriving. Looking for any opinions or thoughts on what to stock it with.
We would be able to did it deeper clear out mud etc too. I was being optimistic thinking of putting barra In there maybe a jack or too but after this winter I doubt they'd survive.
Also it doesn't connect to the river so no possibility if escapees either
