balloning for macks mindarie

Was at the marina today watching the ocean and noticed some helium balloons out for mackies a sight i thought id never see off our metro wall ,hopefully the boys nailed one[ a metro makie] this year has been crazy  ,as theres been a few caught in the area.  Any way as i was there some nob jockey jetskier decided to drive right through the balloons and boy did the ratches go off, was a laugh but made me wonder on how fuken useless the skipper on the jet ski was as the ballons stood out like dogs balls and they had notice the ballons earlier!

metro macky

finally got a metro macky was totally rapped then got a nice pink as a bonus

Dhu Town..

Hey crew,

Time to report my latest adventure off the coast of Dongara Sunday 27th March, with the weather lookin good an afternoon 3.30pm high tide and the inshore grounds being very shut down of late with all the hot/dirty water around I decided to head out and jig a few plastics on a nice little coral patch I have out in the 45-50's.

Half way out I spotted a couple of pro cray pots all bunched together so I decided to pull up for a look see, there was a couple of good fish showing on the HDS and first drop this solid Baldy nailed my placcy 5m off the bottom.

After catching the Baldy it went quiet around the pots so I continued on to my coral spot, the HDS was showing good coral with a few fish holding close to the bottom and first drift produced this Red Throat Emp.

Followed by my mate Fishncrazy jigging up one of the biggest Red Throats I've seen at 62cm.

Then it was MRSTWITCHEMUP's turn having her big Squidgy fish soft plastic whoofed by this 8kg male Dhu..

Next up for me was this 58cm Red Throat Emp which again hit the plastic hard up off the bottom.

Next drift and bang Fishncrazy is on then a second later bang "I'm on" ... Yeeww Double hookup to a pair of soild fish..

The results of the doulble hookup 5kg and 9kg Dhu Bangers..

By this stage the sounder was alive with fish on the flat coral and as soon as my plastic hit the bottom one jig up and I was connected to this 8.5kg Dhu..

And then to round out an awesome days plastic fishing, Fishncrazy had his placcy crunched by this 9.5kg Dhu..

By this time the Southerly was well and truly in and it was time to head home we left the schools of Dhu's and Red Throats biting.

So there it is another succesfull plastics session off Dongara in total we boated 6 x Dhus between 4 - 9.5kg, 5 x Red Throat Emperor and the Baldy. We kept 2 x 8kg Dhus 2 x Red Throats and the Baldy and released the rest in perfect health to be caught another day.

Now it's time to start getting ready for the Exmouth Comp just hope the fishing mojo follows team Twitchy up there, cheers for the read everyone.

Just another lazy day Kalbarri style

Awesome day out. Awesome weather. Good blokes and an awesome outcome. When I'm not so pissed I'll post the photos of the dolphins.

couple from today

hi guys had a nice day on tha blue just wondering what type of tuna this is.

Is it unusual

that i caught a northwest blowie off woodmans point?

I wasnt happy, thought i had a decent fish, but it did put up an okay fight!

metro pinkys session

A mate and i headed out from woody point ramp at 4:30am saturday morning to fish some ground i found last time i was out fishing. got to the spot and started to burley up and with in 5min of the line being in the water i was hooked up to something large and i called it for a pinky, And yes i was rite up came a 4kg pinky then over the next 2 and a half hours we were pulling in fish of equal size to the first snapper. by the time they went off the bite we counted 11 caught and 9 released pink snapper.... and a few break sea cod and a undersize dhu.

Was a excellent metro mornings fishing if i do say so myself

Hope all you guys that got out yesterday had some luck aswel....

Jurien Marlin

Went looking for some action at the JB FADS but couldn't find 2 of them. Finally found the southern most FAD but no luck with the Dollies, they were jumping though. Caught a Blue Marlin between the apparent location of the other two FADS. 30 minute fight and then released with no issues. Anyone else fishing tomorrow at JB? I am chasing Spaniards if anyone has any info on how they are currently going.

I must be doing something right..

... Well kind of, i seem to be finding some decent fish, keeping lures on the end of my line is another story!

Headed today late arvo for less than an hour for a quick bash on the tailor. Got the tip off from a mate that a few goodens had been caught in the general area, so my brother Cody and I launched the ski armed with our light gear and plugs! Scored lucky with finding the school, 1st cast and mustve hit them on the head, one crank of the new stradic ci4 and the water exploded around the richter plug, hooked up immediately but got done on the reef, found out after the session that 15lb leader isnt quite enough for these bruisers, i continued to lose 3 plugs in less than an hour!!

Anyway to cut it short we caught around 5 fish, a couple double hook-ups made things interesting, many lost, Cody got bitten by a tailor for the first time, check out the photo of his hand haha, lost 4 richter plugs between us, average size of the fish about 50cms and 1.5kgs, a few bigger chucked in for good measure!

Loving the stradic ci4 too!!

Not too happy with how the photos turned out as it was quite rough out there and was more focussed and dodging the reef!

Cheers

Beau

Alex Nelson's State Record Wahoo... GAMEX 2011

As the title says Alex caught a wahoo today weighing in at 13kg caught on 10kg line for a junior state record.  Beating the previous record of 12.4kg.   As the day went, it was very long and really hard to find the billies.  Lures out and after the first wahoo which was about 10 and a half kgs on 37kg line so a no go for us. 2 hours later with the big gear out  a wahoo bit every lure and finished on the 10 and hooked up. Alex was quick to jump and grab the rod and a 10 minute fight to subdue the monster.

Was a great day with 2 Wahoo and raising 2 bills.

Well done my little man ...same again tomorrow!!

  Jeff

Potential state junior record pending

Got a phone call and a pic of a 13kg wahoo on the scales at Gamex.

Young Alex has got himself a potential junior state record with a 13kg wahoo on 10kg line. Deepwater [Jeff] and [Shallow water] Alex have been out there with only sharks tagged so far but this one will hopefully get them on the board.

McArthy's at Disaster Rock

Hi All - had a great day at Disaster Rock off Broome with the McArthy's SP's. A couple of pics below. Many other BIG fish hooked but couldn't get them off the bottom! McArthy's certainly work up North...

New reel = New fish!

So i bought a brand new Shimano Straddic Ci4 4000f yesterday for $60 off its original price at sale and was super eager to get out for a fish today after what happened last week, where i was 90% sure i had come across a school of the elusive Giant Herring. I took advantage of the midday glass off and launched the ski at Kwinana beach.

I headed to the drop off I fished last week and out went the 4inch placcy.

After a few jerks on the 2nd cast, i got a nice hit, a solid fat herring that got away without getting a mugshot. The plastic hit the water on the next cast and after one jerk i saw a fairly large tail swirl a meter away then BANG i was on, then launching out the water was a huuuuuge gardie! Nope, not a gardie, a pesky longtom! My first ever Longtom.

How's the fangs on this thing!! Not sure how i didnt get busted off too. She mustve gone about 60-65cms.

The release..

I scoot back to the sandbar and cut the engine, drifting towards the drop off with the gentle Easterly wind. I then spot the school I saw last week, crusing the drop off about 20m ahead of me. Out goes the placcy and after a few winds a couple fish break from the school to hunt it down. The rod gets heavy for a few seconds before the fish spits it, pulling the plastic down the shaft of the hook, or what i call pulling its pants down. So now my heart is racing, as the fish seem to be in a feeding mood, nothing like i saw last week. Hook on to one the next cast and the drag starts screaming, then 20m out, a goooood fish breaks the surface launching 1.5-2m in the air! I couldnt believe it, i thought salmon put on quite a show but these were just unreal.

After about 3-4mins i finally get the fish on the ski! So happy, my first Giant Herring, around 60cms long.

Using my new reel for the first time and catching a GH for the first time..

The release..

What a rush! By the time i got the fish in i was a fair while away from the spot so i raced back around and got stuck into another GH first cast!

I ended up with 4 landed, about 6 lost, and alot of hits from lontoms! At one stage there was a school of about 30 longtoms swimming around! Resulting in alot of plastics looking like this!

I'd have to put todays session up there with catching the snapper and huge tailor from the ski, what an amazing experience! Hopefully relive it some time soon!

Cheers,

Beau

persistance pays off

The last couple of weeks have been awesome seeing mulloway after mulloway pulled in around me was getting a bit impatient after seeing them. But me and my mate every weekend have been doing all nighters waiting for our chance firstly last week my mate pulled in a nice 13.5 kg mulla at 1.14metres got me a bit jellous as first time ive taken him in a long time and he lands one damn i thought. So i started thinking maybe i just have no luck but as they say persistance pays of. then finally 12am on the dot my line has a buzz but being as a boat just went past i thoght it was just the waves as my drag was set so loose. But my mate said no thats no waves so i sat and watched it then a few seconds later it started screaming of so i left it for a few seconds then whack i was on. head shakes from the start ran straight out with its first run and then i turned it and started bringing it in then what it felt like it snapped i thought oh no!!. but hang on it didnt it came straight at me for a bit after i gained some line the fight began again as he went for another run big headshakes then finally colour it was in it then hade one last lurch at a pole then up she popped properly YAY!!! cheers allround from my mates my first mulloway finally lol. it ended up being  1.21 meters and pushing close to 15kg as had no scales and nor did anyone around so guessing as my mates was weighed at 13.5kg at 1.14 mine being a bit longer and fatter estimate around the 15kg still all amped now lol heres the pic

We are the 2nd Champions...AIBT 2011

Hi all,

the numbers for the AIBT where down in the shithouse but we still came out victors..( almost )    We got 2nd place in the Tag and Release Sailfish section.

Day 1 we tagged a sailfish in the arvo and raised 3 for the day.  Caught on 15kg guestimated to be about 20kgs. Also got 3 tuna.

Day 2 We saw 3 in the first hour and a half  of fishing but an end result of zero tags.

Day 3 No tags until about 2pm and on our way home to the pub we managed to tag one so we bogged lapped and managed to tag another. both caught on 37kg line. first Sail was about 35kg and the 2nd was 15kg .

We missed out on the win by 200 points as the other boat ( a local boat Cat Weasel ) caught there 3 on 15kg.

A big thanks to Cliff and Baz for being a great crew and looking forward to next year.

Finaly got my first mulloway

finaly caught a mulloway on wed night, ive been trying for 6 months fishing every moon change hoping to get 1. ive spent ages researching them even going to the extremes of looking through old posts to find when fish when caught and the checking the dates against a tide website and i started to notice a pattern as to the best time to fish. it weighed 12kg so not a huge fish but an awesome achievement for me, it ate a whole fillet of herring and put up and awesome fight. it was so amazing to finaly see one laying on the beach, i havent been abale to stop smilling since. the night started of fairly bad with 2 of my other rods getting spooled by big unstoppable things fairly sure they where sharks but was rewarded in the end. sorry about the bad photos was taken on a phone.

Another ticked off the "Jigged" list.....

Yep, rumours were true. Fully random from the far left field but thats not to say its not possible with this Leeuwin current the way it is. Again, tis was on Whitey's Seasport Charter. Was trying to entertain the Singaporean guests on board and maybe bagged a fish for dinner myself.

No idea what it weighed but guesitmate puts it at about 7-8kg....

Couple of Canning Breambos

Went for a quick session in the Canning a week or so ago and got onto a couple of smaller fish.  Largest went to 28cm (I think).

I reckon I might head upstream a bit more next time and see how things are looking up there... been a while since I've fished further up.

friday looking the goods

hoping to get out friday for a macky troll in the morning then a bottom bounce hope the weather holds up as its looking ok ,anyone else heading out and what depth have the mackies been in ???????

Sunday Cockburn Sound crabs

Caught up with Ryan Thipthorp on Sunday for some Delish Cockburn Sound crabs. We launched Ryans boat at a very lazy 10:30 enough time to find where the bigger ones are holding up and to take advantage of the high tide. We bagged out in 2 hours with the majority being 140-150mm and a great way to relax on the water, cheers Ryan.

weekend breaming

went down for a quick shorebased flick in the swan,
and friendly tournament with my mate friday afternoon

not much caught, total: me 3 bream, aidan: 1 flattie

pulled my first fish out on a daiwa wise minnow going a good 25cm!!! lol :)

my next fish hooked dicided it was off to Africa, peeling lots of line of my Ci4,
when I finally landed it, It measured 43cm to the fork!!  yeww. and was as long as my fore arm !! the only very decent fish for the day.

(unfortunetally along way off my PB and my 5th 40cm+ bream on my new Ci4 in under a month!!!)

my last fish only went a little 25cm again. hehehe

not too bad for a spot i have only fished once before and only fished it for about an hour

next session:

headed to the same spot to flick some lures arround, I caught 3 flatties, a herring and 5 bream , biggest going approx 35cm. my mate caught 4 bream and 2 trumpeter.

then for fun and a change froom lures, we collected some live crabs and floated the down along a old jetty.

I ended up landing 20 + bream and 3 bustoffs and my mate landed 4 and 1 bust off.

all fish released

good couple off sessions we had in the middle swan.

cheers,

tom
