Mini Giants
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 2013-04-25 10:32Hey guys,
Took my mate Altus for an afternoon surface fishing session yesterday after work. Plenty of run in the tide ensured that the little queenies and GT's that run rampant in our river systems would be out in full force. The action didnt disappoint. Altus's popper actually got smashed on his very first cast of the afternoon which we were both pretty impressed with and gave us high hopes for the afternoon.
We ended up landing 5 little GT's and a Queenie in a quick-fire 1hr 30 minute session.
We had a ball!
Cheers,
Luke

Albany Salmon 2013 report
Submitted by beau on Mon, 2013-04-22 18:02Well the 2nd annual Albany fishing trip nearly didn't happen this year at all, crew were dropping like flies, one bloke was in Broome, another was at the Abrohlos, I mean pfft, Albany salmon is where it's at! Original plan was to hit up Dunsborough in the boat but the reports dried up and the fish weren't being that reliable, so I made the call to ditch the boat and do a lightning day trip down to Albany as I had one availbale day and had to get my bro back to mum and dad by the evening so he could go on a week long trip down to Bremer Bay the following day. F#@K fifo...
I literally scrounged up a crew, my brother, a mate I hadn't seen in over a year and a boyfriend of a family friend that I had never met.
Drove onto Albany Hwy at 4.45am and arrived at the public toilet on the beach at 9am, I had been touching cotton for the last hour!
Tried a spot where the fish escaped us last year, first two casts had a million and one herring hitting the stickbait, even splashing at my double uni braid to mono knot. Walked 15m to my right and bang-on, salmon all over the stickbait. After a bit of rock dancing I lifted the first salmon onto the rocks. The other boys were still rigging up at that stage.
I had a couple more hits but no hookups so I made the call to walk further around the corner.
As we were walking to the rocks it was funny to see the same family standing on the exact same rocks as last year.
We also got to fish off the same rocks as last year and we started where we left off, with my first cast resulting in the fattest salmon I have ever caught, unfortunately the photo doesn't do the size of this fish any justice.
For the next 5hrs it was just about non stop action. The fish were much larger this year, absolute stonkers. I was devastated to lose 2 horses on the fly gear aswell..
Enjoy the pics
The waxwing...
An old friend. .
After 9hrs of driving and 950kms for the day I pulled into the driveway at 9.30, what a day!
Cheers
Beau.
Ps. If there are any double ups in photos of whatever I apologise in advance as I've done all this from my phone and it's pretty difficult to keep track!

Tonights mulloway
Submitted by mjohns on Sun, 2013-04-21 01:27Went for a fish tonight at a popular spot...
Not alot happening, got a small stingray to warm up on. Around 12:00 midnight had a nice hookup, passed the rod over to the mrs...
She had quite a fight on her hands, had a few headshakes but wasn't sure what it was. Got it closer to the rocks and saw a flash of silver, thats when the pressure really set in!!
Few hairy moments around the rocks, managed to slip a nice gaff shot in and stumbled this big mulla up the rocks!!
Both bloody stoked, first mulloway for us tonight!!

Got ours yesterday
Submitted by Terry on Sat, 2013-04-20 16:27I would like to share our good news with you fellow fishers and off road enthusiests.
Like Walfootrot , I had to wait a while for it to be made and shipped from Japan. But well worth the wait.
I took control of it yesterday at 3pm. Needless to say both my wife and self are over the moon.
A trip to Cape York is in the pipeline for middle of next year so we are gearing up.
Anyway....here is a pic of the rig.

Epic ski session
Submitted by beau on Thu, 2013-04-18 19:33Ventured out into the fog this morning. 2mins from the ramp I was pretty much lost, couldn't see the land or the sun, my bearings were truly scrambled. I had launched at Safety Bay and the plan was to fish Warnbro Sound, somehow I bypassed long point and by the time I could get reception on my phone to check the navionics app I was down Secret Harbour way! 1st cast on the reefs my Richter plug was enialated and bitten off by a solid tailor. Long story short, after an hour i had bagged out on some solid tailor, released 15-20 and lost plenty more.
Back at the ramp I had stirred up quite the fuss with the old sea dogs who hadn't seen tailor that size in the metro area for many years. I didn't measure the fish but the biggest would've have been 60-65cms. Pulled into the workshop on the way home to give the fish away and it was funny watching the boys fight over all the fish haha. Cheers Beau

ultimate shore based metro mack
Submitted by fishentology on Thu, 2013-04-18 07:52So i just got back from work a day earlier and havent seen the the dogs for a while so i thought i may aswell
chuckem in the car and head of for a fish and a beer on the beach. Rocked up to my spot north of two rocks
mainly expecting atleast couple of herring. so fishing away trying to catch a herring to chuck on live on my
beach rod you never no whats out there couldnt seem to get one to beach. I was going to chuck out a mulie
but that would get picked to pieces. now this is whats so funny. I took up a heap of RAW CHICKEN SKIN mainly
for whiting (stays on the hook). So while i was waiting for a herring i put on a big chunck of
CHICKEN SKIN on my hook (8/0 circle 60lb mono trace dropper rig). It was in the water for about 15 mins while
i was still trying to get a herring with my small gear. Turned around and the rod buckled over and singing.
expecting nothing but a stingray picked up the rod and played him in until i sore it in the water
holly f#*# its a MACKIE land based metro on sicker rig on a chunck of CHICKEN SKIN.
Bled raped it up with a wet towl and headed home. weighed 17.5kg
Still smiling

Hayden's PB Dhuie
Submitted by Michael79 on Wed, 2013-04-17 18:42Would love to take credit for either of these fish but the youngest member of the team 10 year old Hayden caught both of these beauties in great fishing conditions. Unassisted Hayden hooked, fought and landed this 17 kg bruit and respectable 13kg dhuie fighting both like a seasoned pro even though it was just his second shot a Dhuie fishing. Congratulations Hayden on a top effort. Well done

Few Snapper in Close
Submitted by clogwog on Sun, 2013-04-14 18:32If you did not take your boat out over the last few days you must have had to work as the conditions have
been great. I spent Saturday with my sons travelling approx 50kms in our small boat trying to find some fish
without any luck, decided to have one last fish approx 2.5km from our launch point and caught a small Samson fish
and was busted off by what I thought was a large snapper.
Spent some extra time today preparing my gear and launched the boat at approx 1.00 in the arvo, got close to the same spot
(dont have a sounder) burlied up lightly and within 15 minutes had my first snapper, again line out and hooked up to a small eagle
ray which gave me a good workout. Ten minutes later smash, hit by another snapper which was about the same size as the first.
Decided to fish a little longer and my son hooked into a third snapper, all in all a great day on the water with some good snapper
between 62-70cm, all caught within 2 hours, did not even use a third of a block of mulies!!!!

Friday Night Shark Fishing
Submitted by mjohns on Sun, 2013-04-14 13:11Hit the beach around 5pm friday arvo, was a bit of drizzle around but the water was dead calm..
Around 7:30 heard that sound of the ratchet we were waiting for, set the hook a couple of times and followed it down the beach. Wasn't putting up a great fight, didnt think much of it but i knew it was a shark as i could feel its tail beating against my leader.
Got it in close to shore in around 10-15 minutes and it was a little tiger around 6 foot, looked small compared to the last one but still pretty stoked even though i was a bit dissapointed with the fight. Released strong after a couple of snaps and unhooking with my hands (couldnt find the pliers!)
Around 10:00 had a small hit but just missed the hooks. 12:00ish had another small run, struck and started reeling in some dead weight. Thought i probably missed it until a small shark came up the beach.. Kept this one for a feed, perfect size so he got trunked and into the engel.
Fished for another hour or so while packing up for nil, was a great night though conditions couldnt have been better.

Good little morning session of HBH.
Submitted by TorquenFish on Thu, 2013-04-11 14:16Made the most of an RDO today and went down to Hillarys Boat Harbour to wet a line. Wasn't really chasing anything in particular just felt like a fish!
After 3 hours I ended up with 25 whiting to take home for a tasty feed :) Biggest was just over 25cm with most being around 20cm so reasonable size and not too fiddly to fillet. Got over 1kg in fillets as some were real fat specimens.
Also got the usual small pinkies (returned obviously), the usual shit fish, and also caught this very odd wrass looking thing if anyone knows what it is that'd be great. Small school of tailor keapt cruising past but wouldn't take a silver slice :(
Any way nice way to spend a pleasant day!

Gum Tree access
Submitted by roberta on Tue, 2013-04-09 12:15Found out why Gumtree Was locked up at Easter Time this year.
Apparently sometime last year or early this year, 25 or so people blocked off the launching area and surrounding tracks, to have the whole area all to themselves, complete blockage. Complaints went to both Shire's and the result was lock out over Easter and maybe future long week ends, school holidays. This came from the Leeman Ranger today. Why do selfish people (minority) ruin it for the majority of good fisho's either land based or boaties.
Everybody that was camped for Easter at Illawong & Dumper Bay did the right thing and left the whole area spotless, excellent job to those campers/fisho's. There are good people in this world that leave areas clean for future people to use.
