Why do I even try....(LB Pink)
Submitted by 22kg dhui on Mon, 2013-04-08 22:39 After many trips to our favourite offshore snapper spots in the last couple weeks with nothing at all to show for it I was lost for words (except for a few i wont repeat) when this monster hit the beach last weekend!
Fishing down at our local beach in Mandurah for tailor, we picked up 2 good 35-40cm fish before sunset and with a few mulies left decided to put in an extra hour to see if anything else was out there.
We didnt have any scales but it measured 94cm and gave a good account for itself on 6kg spin gear.

A week in absolute paradise DIRK HARTOG ISLAND picture crazy!!
Submitted by Chris fish on Mon, 2013-04-08 16:39Just got back from an insane week at dirk hartog with mates Tim and Podge, lots of sharks, massive grouper, unreal diving with sharks turtles, sea snakes. Just fish everywhere, never been to a place like it. Hooked so many Mack's on spin and either popper lines or sharked, watched a sailfish i hooked get sharked infront of me and so many more unforgettable moments.
this is my last fishing trip for a while so I'm selling all my fishing gear, everything I have so I can focus on other things so this trip was an awesome way to end an insane last 3 years of fishing with some truly memorable catches.

ITS ABOUT TIME!!!
Submitted by Belly88 on Fri, 2013-04-05 20:46After reading recently about a lot of people reading posts for info but not contributing much i realised i was one of them.. Been a member for quite a while now and havent really posted much.......so here is me going to make a better effort to contribute starting with this post...
I personlly find that winter is much better for landbased fishing.....colder also but definately better for us. So coming into when we get most of our better landbased fish now..
Me and a few mates have been chasing Mulloway for years with some but not huge amounts of success but last year we nailed quite a few good ones.. Im not sure if we are getting better or finally being rewarded for the time spent chasing these elusive fish... But we dont solely chase them, we go fishing a whole lot basicly for everything (shore and boat)..
So I thought tonight while im sitting at home doing not much i would throw up a few photos from last years winter for those who are interested and hope that i can continue to add something to this forum in the future....
Cheers and Enjoy Belly...
Starting with ESHED : The Bait, The Result and the By Catch
The next 3 are Marina Sambo Popping.... Many many hooked only 2 landed in a quick morning sesh... (dont mind the no fishing sign in the back ground)
Moving on to the Beach Mullys and a gummy bycatch. (south wedge but north lano)
Ballooned Mack from Wagoe
River Mully (edgeing towards summer)
And Finally............ The Fish my mate caught tonight..... bastard while im stuck at home (south wedge but north lano)
Hopefully signs of another great season..

Finally Got a few fish past the Cvon Sharks!!!!
Submitted by Doooma on Fri, 2013-04-05 15:50Organised last Sunday with a few blokes to head out to the islands (Bernier) on Monday... Yeap... all cool... We'll be at your house by 6:30am...
5am.. Im up.. loading boat, filling esky etc etc... 6:30.... waiting.... 7:00... waiting....7:30...waiting....8:00... waiting... 8:30.... waiting...
Phaaark em.Last time I invite those guys..... ring around for a new crew.... bugger... everyone is up the coast for Easter!!!! PHAAAAARRRRKKKKK!!!!!
Missus comes out.. "how about #####?" shit.. yeah Ill try him!!!
All good...he's keen to head out... BUT.. its now to late to go to the islands... so head out to Bejaling Shoals for a couple of hours...
Anchor up.. .BANG.... into it!!!!
A few pinkies, moses perch, flag, mulloway, mackies, saddletail, norwest snapper,... then the tuna showed up!!! Whole place was bubbling with action....
Had a flick with a Shimano waxwing.... 3 casts.... 3 tuna!!!
I was buggered!!!! lol...
Had a 10 minute drink break and thought, bugger it Ill have one last cast at the tuna.....
BANG !!!!!! Line goes peeling off at a huge rate of knots and felt like a Mack truck on the end!!!! All of a sudden it turns and heads for the boat.... Im winding so fast Im almost losing grip on the bloody handle.... then this bloody huge thing launches straight out of the water at the boat!!!
"HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!" nearly landed in the bloody boat!!! Off it goes again, launching out of the water and spinning like a bloody washing machine agitator!!!! (Even more spin than Julia Gillard)
Ive seen them before but never hooked one..... It was about a 6 - 7 foot Spinner shark.... Closely followed by 2 of his even bigger mates!!!!!
I was fighting this thing a few minutes until due to the constant spinning.... he wrapped up all my leader around his body, down to the 80Lb braid.. which then lasted all of 10 seconds once it rubbed on its skin!!!
Glad it got off.... I was too buggered to do anything with it even if I got it to the boat!!!
Needless to say... after that... the usual fishing story of my last few months re-occured... lost everything else to sharks.. but was happy I finally had a feed of fish again after 3 months trying!!!!

Been a few spots fishing really well inbetween the pushes coming down from Fitzroy crossing giving the river a much needed flush out. Although it hasnt been a great wet season its just been enough to get things firing up.

2 years to get this mulloway after my first elusive beast
Submitted by falttymatty on Thu, 2013-04-04 16:35Hi Guys
Just thought id post a pic of the mulloway i got the other night.
It was thursday night and me and my workmates went down to a local rockwall for something to do really as was boring sitting at home.
So we got to the rockwall found a nice spot and set up with a box of squid and a bag of mullies in hand with a 6 pack in the esky ready to catch whatever comes along really.
Well a few hours past and the pickers were on the chew with only a few metre long port jacksons on the bite which really i thought were decent size portys for a change. So we persisted with the pickers and kept changing the baits hopeing for the big one.Well time past and it got to 2am friday morning so one of my mates called it a night and headed of home.So i thought last ditch effort ill try a mullie in a squid tube to see if i can get something interested.
Well no more than ten minutes past then the line screamed of and so i skipped over the rocks and struck and nothing damn i thought so i started to wind in then hit some weight.I was on it took a screaming first run but managed to turn it and then all i could feel was huge headshakes.Had me on my toes for about fifteen minutes skipping rocks and it wasnt running out it was running up and down the rockwall getting dangerously close to the rocks. And all i could see was the braid getting very close to the rocks but after a bit of tussle i managed to lift him up and out of the rocks to see a nice silvery side come up woohoo im shouting as my mate runs down with the gaff as he did though it lunged again i thought no its gone.
But finally i managed to bring him back up and my mate got a good shot with the gaff on him and there it was a 1.17 metre mulloway felt pretty heavy to lift up the rocks guessing around the 15kg mark as didnt get to weigh it.
So after 2 years of trying again after my first here it was what a feeling to get a big one like this patience i spose is the key.
But sadly it didnt release so on the bbq for easter and not one bit left was enjoyed by all.
Thanks for reading
Matt

Beach Cod
Submitted by TorquenFish on Tue, 2013-04-02 10:35 Was fishing on sunset/early evening on Saturday night on a NOR beach and managed to snare myself a nice Black Spotted Rock Cod or Malabar Grouper.
Only measured 44cm but was a tasty entree for Sunday nights' dinner. Was a bit surprised to get a Cod of the beach, but happy non-the-less.
As per my other post in the Mulla thread (inserted below) I also lost a decent Mulla on my first cast of the night that I'm not all to happy about :(
"Line was in the water all of 20 seconds (first cast of the night/evening) and BANG, was on. Had a good 20 second run, tightened up the drag a touch, and got the customary head shakes. Managed to get about 20m of line back in... then the dredded snap. Thought it mast have chewed it off (using 60lb mono leader) but alas when I got my line in it was broken off at the main line (50lb braid). The leason to be learnt here is if you have a big tussle with a fish close to rocks, always remove a good portion of your main line to get rid of chaffing. Rookie error on my behalf and I paid for it".
Tight lines.
Jesse.

Finally something to post! Quiet morning Mulla!
Submitted by StevieP on Mon, 2013-04-01 10:57Headed to Quinns Rocks (usually ok for tailor or 2) at about 6 this morning second ones on the beach, water was flat hour past barely a nibble. Approx 715am line went tight and started taking drag off my 13' Daiwa Sensor Surf/Saragosa 18000F combo, quickly called it for a Eagle ray, tightened the drag up and started gaining line, after about 6 or 7 mins saw a flapping on the surface which me and my mate Ali found not to resemble and Eagle ray, this spot is reknown for eagle rays but usually on the first or second run they jump no such acrobatics from this fish. I backed off the drag as i wanted to make sure what it was, eventually the beast surfaced about 10m out with large golden flanks glowing in the morning sunlight over our shoulders. MULLA!!! loosened the drag off a touch more and got it to the breakers and first wave beached my first horse mulloway suprised by the size of the thing on the quietest fishing morning ive ever had. Nothing else caught by us or anyone else on the beach.
Went approx 120cm and at a guess between 18-20kgs. BTW im 6'4"

Submitted by ben89 on Fri, 2013-03-29 22:37went out for a sail on my dads yacht launched about 12 and stopped just out the back of the mangles bay moorings for lunch and had a quick squid and got 2, then went for a sail and came back to roughly the same spot about 4:30 and had another crack and I got 2 more and the old man got 2 also, finished up about 5. so I doubled my personal best daily catch rather happy about that. plenty of squid around in the sound

Jurien Bay
Submitted by jayce on Thu, 2013-03-28 19:10Just thought i would throw this pic up from the boats first serious outing.
Was from jurien bay a couple of weekends ago. We didnt mnage any size dhus but got a couple of undersize. was pretty happy with the way the boat handled and we all had a good day.
this was the saturday.
Went out again on the monday and scored another 6 good size baldies. the best of them being 58cm that i caught on 15lb.
We had trouble getting baits past the red throat. They are like blowies up there. we tried about 5 different spots and they where on all of them.

Wedge Island
Submitted by Faceplanter on Sun, 2013-03-24 09:43Went and stayed at a mates shack at wedge last weekend with my eldest boy. Went down for a fish Saturday night off a section of beach that wasn't weeded up. I started with my PB tailor that went 47cm. Then my first mulloway which was 53cm. Thinking i was doing pretty well and fairly happy with everything, my son then pulled in 2 mulloway in the next half an hour; 51 and a touch over 53cm. The other blokes we fished with also caught a tailor and another mulla that went 54 between them. To finish of i pulled in a tarwhine about 27cm. Not a bad first trip. Don't think it will be the last. Photos not the best quality as they where taken on my phone that didn't want to focus properly.

Camping Gum Tree
Submitted by roberta on Sun, 2013-03-24 08:29Hi FW'ers
JUST A RUMOUR:
Have heard that they have blocked off enterances to Gum Tree north of Leeman, especially near where the old shacks used to be. Now its just a rumour, haven't seen it for myself but may go and have a look as some good beaches around there for fishing.
Think you can still get on the actual road from Indian Ocean Drive but from what we have heard, the tracks leading left or right have been blocked.
if we go there before Easter will let you know how much is blocked.
