Nylon Bait Board
Submitted by big john on Sun, 2007-11-18 19:10Does anyone know where one can purchase a large rectangular piece of 10mm nylon sheet so that I can custom shape a piece 730mm x 480mm to be used as a removeable cutting surface in a transom mounted aluminium baitboard?
I'm not to keen on repeatedly bluntening my knives on the bare ali surface.

Pressed Alluminium Boats
Submitted by jay_burgess on Tue, 2007-11-06 11:49I have been looking around at all the pressed boats available on the market. So far the manufacturers I've looked at include, Stacer, Quintrex, Ally Craft, Mako Craft, Horizon Boats, Sea Jay. I'm looking for a boat that has a deep v-nose and in the 4.5m range (must be available as a tiller).
The models that stand out to me so far are the Ally Craft Kakadu Karrier 445 and the Horizon Northerner 445. Both have a good beam for their size and a nice hull depth. Has anyone had much experience with Ally Craft and more specifically Horizon?? Is there any other manufacturers you'd recommend looking at?

Navman Radio Flush Mounting Brackets
Submitted by big john on Sat, 2007-11-03 21:40G'Day Guys,
Just wondering if anyone might have purchased a navman marine radio recently and is not using the flush mounting brackets that came with it. If so i'd be happy to buy them off you for a reasonabe price.
I want to flushmount the radio that came with my boat but I don't have the brackets.
Alternately does anyone know a store where I could find these brackets?

600W vs 1KW
Submitted by big john on Sat, 2007-10-27 20:49Just chasing a few opinions on both transducer options for a Furuno 585.
If fishing in depths of less than 100m is the 1KW going to be any more effective than the 600W. In other words will the more powerful transducer show more detail despite the water depths being less than 100m?

WANTED POLE MOUNT BASE FOR LOWRANCE LGC2000 ANTENNA
Submitted by jimbo1 on Mon, 2007-10-22 19:47G'day all,
I have just been mounting my new sounder and had to move my GPS antenna from the dash of my C/C. I mounted it else where on the dash but it appears to be too close too my GPS now as it wont pick up the signal.
Does anyone happen to have the pole mount adaptor for a LOWRANCE LGC2000 antenna that they are not in use of. As I think my only option now is to mount it off a pole on my dash.
Cheers

New sounder
Submitted by jimbo1 on Thu, 2007-10-18 21:04Well I have followed the trend and bought myself a new sounder! Unfortunately I didnt have thousands to spend but I managed to get enough together for a Furuno fcv-620. It will be a definate upgrade from the Lowrance LMS-337 combo unit I have been using so far. And now I can finally have a dedicated GPS and a dedicated Sounder without the nuisance of spliting or swapping screen images.
I picked it up from - Marine Electrical & Instrument Services in Port Bouvard. They were even nice enough to do me a deal at the prices from the boat show just gone so I saved myself a few dollars.

New sounder. Overseas prices
Submitted by bouttime on Sat, 2007-10-06 03:11I have decided its time to spend the money and buy a new Furuno FCV 1100. After speaking with a few people that have or sell them it looks to be the pick of the lot.
I have priced them up here in Perth and with a 1KW transducer they come it at around $5500.
I have had a look around over in the states and with the Aussie dollar so good at the moment i can get one to my front door and save around $2000.
Is it worth the risk even though the stores are repitable and come with full warranty.
My neighbour has just bought a new sounder and GPS from the states and said he has had no problems with the purchase and said he saved around a grand.
Has anyone done the same and if so who did you buy through.
Thanks

The low down on Trail Craft trailers .
Submitted by fishoutofwater1 on Tue, 2007-09-25 10:21The low down on Trail Craft trailers .
We have now been dragging the trailer about the state for over 10,000km in 6 mths more than most would do in 5 years .The unit has been over dusty ,gravel, and hard top roads .and nothing has fallin of it unlike others that I have owned .Why its built simple (kiss)
Towing speed at 100kmh and it sits well.
Launching the boat to easy unhook the boat rolls off retrieving drive on all hand winch on no dramas .(beach, ramp, reef launching all good has dropped boat in 10 inches of water )I have led lights fitted and no lighting dramas such we have when globes are used on rough roads another benefit with led is when doing a night retrieve the lights beam out to 6 feet (approx)in the water making it dead easy to line up boat on the rollers
The I chassis has the right amount of flex in it to help absorb the shocks of road use and the single spring slipper arrangement works well .
being galvanized and I chassis and single spring arrangement rust is much less of a issue being water cant sit to long and is easy to clean .
For the serious off road user I would recommend a spare bearing kit and spring for you never know and should be carried any way when on long trips .
The units are priced right as well and will fit most boats .
cheers Ian

Submitted by Johnno on Sat, 2007-09-22 15:40heya! any of you etec boys had any problems or anything to say about ur donk. they say to get them tunnened to fully sythetic oil because it uses less and runs cleaner. why do you think they compare them to 4 strokes and not 2 strokes? they sound to good to be true." but either way i just want 1"

Rusty prop
Submitted by phatdog on Sun, 2007-09-09 17:37I have just spent a heap of cash and put 2 new 4 blade stainless props on my sharkcat. The props sit on 1999 130hp Saltwater series Yammies. The motors are mounted on ali pods. On the last two occasions when I have been out fishing and pulled the boat out of the water, the starboard prop has rust on it. I have changed the annodes and checked the earth wires and they all appear to conected and clean. The port prop is no drama at all. Has anyone got an idea of what or why this is happening. Any feedback would be great.

Centre Consoles?
Submitted by SPESS on Mon, 2007-09-03 14:46Hi guys im im the process of looking for a boat to satisfiy my needs. Looking for a centre console in the 4.5 to 5m range with good deck space. Will be fitting a 4 stroke 40 to 50hp on the back so a hull is all im chasing. Ive looked at heaps of different brands including quintrex, stessi and mako but yet to find one i like at the moment. My mate is a boat builder and im tossing up weather to get him to build one for me or try and find one. doesnt have to be new or old in fact i dont really mind as i plan on customizing it to my needs anyway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as theres plenty of northern destinations coming up for me in the next 12 months and need it for then. Cheers.

When to upgrade your motor?
Submitted by jimbo1 on Wed, 2007-08-29 16:39Out of curiosity I thought I would ask all you long time boat owners when you decide its time to upgrade your donk!
What becomes your deciding factor assuming that the motor you currently have hasnt been causing you any greif "touch wood"
* Motor age
* Hours clocked up
* Or just to change from two to four stroke or e-tec.
And if you have had a outboard motor from new when is the best time to upgrade to get the best value for your trade in i.e maximum age and hours.
Cheers

alloy boat repairs
Submitted by bouttime on Thu, 2007-08-23 19:13Looking for someone to help with fixing some damage to my boat.
I need a new bowrail welded to the boat and the old one removed.
A new targa bar with rod holders welded to the boat.
2 new bollards welded to boat.
New canopy fitted off targa bar with front and side clears.
New paint to gunnels and front of boat along with painting of the targa bar.
If finances allow would also like to repaint cabin.
I have a budget of about $4000.
I am able to do alot of the prep work involved like removing all the fittings, sanding back, removing bow rail and ald bollards if this brings the cost down.
I am in Thornlie but if i need to go up north will do so.
