Anchor winch help

Gday,

I've recently had to replace the terminals on my anchor winch. It the process of doing so I've misplaced (lost) the key (unsure of its proper name) bit which sits between the motor and the shaft. Could someone please help me with what the actual name is and also where I can purchase. Or would I be better off grinding down a stainless bolt to fit, joking not joking

Transom/floor replacement recommendations

 G'day gents,

I've just purchased a Southwind 640 platinum SF and it turns out the transom and floor needs replacing. Can anyone recommend someone/a company that is trustworthy and can do this kind of job? I understand it's going to be fairly pricey.. but after what I spent on the boat, I'm committed now. Also, is there any way that the fibreglass shell has been effected?

Located Mandurah, but happy to tow it to Perth for the right repairer.. I've already hoisted the motor off so it is ready to go.

thanks in advance

Yamaha F150 100hr annual service

Hi. I'm looking for price and recommendation of places to have a Yamaha F150 2008 outboard serviced (100hr annual). Thanks, looking forward to your recommendations.

thumbs up - Northcoast Marine Maintenance

Got Jonny from Northcoast Marine Maintenance to service my Yamaha 225 4st last week
The boat is kept in a marina which is a bit of a pain for mechs to get access to, he rang the day before to confirm the job, turned up when he said he would, did what he said he was going to do and gave me an update along the way.
Very happy with his work and nice to engage someone who takes a bit of pride in their work.(real nice surprise was I didn't have to clean off dirty boot marks off the deck and gunnels!)

cheers!

Lower Gearcase rebuild

Just wondering if anyone has had a lower gearcase rebuilt locally.

Looked at doing it myself, but too many special tools and pullers. Would prefer it was done by someone who knows them well. Yammy F200

Variable Deadrise hulls

G'day

I've been reading about these variable deadrise hulls which Haines Signature boats claims good stability when at a stand still. How true is this design to reduce the rolling when the boat is still?

Is the Haines Signature hulls any better than the Haines Hunter?

TIA

Guardian Hulls

Compression on 75 merc 2/stroke

 Guys

I have done compression on 2002 outboard before I purchased it was 120,120,120.

Can anyone assist me in confirming these figures sound ok.

i had another member send me reading material from Mercury and they say under 120 can mean damage to motor.

is it normal to reduce more each year from new or would this figure be close to what it was in 2002.

Any comments welcomed if factual ?

Camp Covers for Boat

 Hi,

After just cancelling another trip to the Abrolhos due to weather, I need to feel better about myself by buying something. Seriously thinking about installing camp covers to the boat for Rotto, Abrolhos and eventually Monties.

Anyone got any recommendations on design and things that I should incorporate or not bother with. Have searched and found a few guys for the trimming side of things that are recommended, and have gone to them for quotes already, including mesh sections as shown to let some air through.

Anyone got any thoughts on someone who could do the ali barwork? Rough design below, and not sure on the colour yet but will either be grey or blue (boat is largely unpainted ali).

Also, do you think it would be worth making it removable? I already have a small bimini that slides inside some oversized tube and is bolted through, was thinking of using that as a base and having the rear vertical pieces held by bolts top and bottom to allow them to be removed, and the top to slide out if required. I am estimating about 20kg of ali in the roof section so whould be managable.

Mercury 75hp RPM at 5500 ?

Can anybody assist me with why the max RPM on 75HP mercury 2/stroke is 5250.

I have a Stejcraft 2002 5.25 with 75 outboard.Propped with 13x17P

RPM at 5500 and 32knots

Does anybody think I need to re pich prop and go up to 19P?

Any suggestions would be fantastic.

Battery setup options

I know this has been done several times- the search function does work...

However-

Current setup 2 bats with isolator- all electrics are wired to it so if you select 1 and drain it flat then flick to 2 as a back up. or link them.

I am curious is this a standard with small trailer boats? or do they more tend to run the electronics off the 2nd battery.

The reason I ask is i am worried im getting interferance from the alternator/ engine on the finder etc ( easy fix by running either a third battery and installing solar as well  or running a set of wires from battery 2)

Am i being too pedantic and just leave it be or is this a bodgy quick setup and should be changed?

Thoughts and recommendations?

Cray Pot Winch Install

 Howdy

Another year older so I am considering a pot winch rather than pulling pots by hand this year. I want to permanently mount in the gunnel so capstan rather than something like a stress free. Only issue is the gunnels on my reef runner aren't that wide. Just wandering if anyone has installed a capstan style pot winch on a reef runner or similar without mods other than the install holes. Gunnels at best are about 115mm wide. I would expect to have to put some sort of reinforcing underneath but if I have to modify above I am not that iterested. I'll just get more deckies.

I would appreciate any pics anyone can pm me of a similar install. I was looking at the Muir VC650 which strangely seems to have a smaller footprint that the VC500 unless thats a typo.

Cheers Mick

Dinghy is back

Finally got my dinghy back today, had a floor put in, that's aluminium and carpeted, they so put a consul that I wanted, my Sounder and my electronics will be a part of that. The battery is built inside of the consul. Didn't need a large battery so gone with a small one that would normally be in a wheelchair or something similar. This can be recharged by the motor, I finished that part of that today. A couple of rod holders built into the rear quarters as well which was all done by Cameron at Flash Rat Boat Modifications, that part of what he does on the side. Really good price and a great job to boot, he has plenty of ideas if your building a dinghy and anything else made from aluminium, you'll find him here.

Airmar 1kw tranny assistance

I'm looking for some assistance on best set up for this 1kw Airmar tranny. I've adjusted this thing a dozen times and not getting the results I should be. I've added / removed shims. Adjusted it up / down. Best so far is dropped down by at least a inch but have huge rooster into outboard cover. I'm thinking I'm getting a lot of aeration from the down scan tranny and live tank pump. Any advice most welcome.

48 foot Cray boat

Gday Guys and Gals,

Hopefully an easy one for you - I have a Westcoaster 48 foot fishing boat 1978 and want to repower her. I also want to go up in the horses range. The problem being that I am not sure how much the drive shaft can take or whether it is possible to upsize the hole in the hull to take a bigger one.

So the question is; has anyone done this to one of these? Or does anyone know someone who used to work for Westcoaster so I can get a feel for the structural integrity and what is up in the tube so I can work out if this is just a bad idea? What happens when you make one of these old hulls do 25 knots? I have heard they flop about on the keel a bit  - is this true? How much power would I need to make it go that quick?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

regards

Ian

Aluminium under floor fuel tank manufacturer?

 G'day all,

im looking to install a new under floor fuel tank in my tinnie. I have a horizon 465 easy fisher pro side console. It didn't come with an under floor tank so looking to put one forward of the centre line to get some weight moved further forward to help the boat not drag its bum so much. Also to stop the front bouncing so much.

i have had a fair use of the search button, and I know I remember seeing some skilled metal workers helping other fishwrecked members out for something similar in here. Can anyone recommend someone in Perth who can knock up a relatively simple Ali fuel tank? I have the floor out of the boat and have taken all the exact measurements etc.

i did look into a poly tank for ease of fitting and convenience, however there are  one that really match the size of the area I need to fill.

Cheers

Leaking Poly Fuel Tank

Has anyone had a poly fuel tank crack or puncture? I am getting some fuel in the hull mainly after I fill up and I've replaced the breather hoses and checked around the fittings after I fill up and there is no fuel around them so by the powers of deduction I am now assuming I have an issue with the tank itself and being 5mm poly I'm thinking there may be a small enough crack to let a bit of fuel out under the pressure of filling it up. It's not enough to stink the boat out but you can get a whiff of it and can definitely smell it when I wash out the bilge.
