Rod for new Thunnus Ci4 8000D
Submitted by kinga86 on Fri, 2012-02-10 15:50Hey guys,
Just bought this lovely reel to replace my old 12000D and 4500B. It will be used mainly for livebaits and floaters out the back of the boat for snapper/mackerel and also in the river for mulloway.
After some advice on a rod for it, something graphite, 6'5" (dont want any longer) and rated to 30lb or PE3. Open to all brands and looking for something mid-range to about $300 give or take a little.
Happy to travel to different tackle stores to check 'em out :)

I have a land based big game 9foot wilson live fibre rod, 15 to 24kg with a roller tip, any ideas what would be a good reel (overhead) to match up with this rod, keeping in mind will need to do some casting.

Entry Level GT Popping reel
Submitted by Busted Arse on Sat, 2011-12-24 17:24Any recomendations?
Not expecting to pay $100 but dont wanna fork out a $1k either for a type of fishing i wont do regularly.
Something that has the versatility for jigging would be ideal.
Thanks in advanced.

Plano 797 from USA
Submitted by tigerfish on Tue, 2011-12-13 22:03Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy a tackle box or any other big ticket items. I was looking at buying the Plano 797 FTO Elite Tackle Box to use as my main tackle storage. It comes with 7 Plano waterproof trays inside which I will use as day boxes on the tinnie or kayak.
Anyway, BCF had it for $230 which seemed a bit steep, especially considering that they go for $90 in the US. Ended up ordering it from BassProShops website. International delivery was a bit steep at $40 but still only $130 altogether so little over half local price. Arrived in about a week and I'm well pleased with it.
The shipping cost is worked out as a percentage of the order total (minmum $40 though), and if I had been thinking straight I would have ordered some lures and other small bits and pieces at the same time to make it even more worth while. (Rapala X-Raps from $9!)

AJN (All Japan Network) Promotional Event - 12th November
Submitted by Tackleshack on Fri, 2011-11-04 10:17on the 12th of November we will be holding an AJN (All Japan Network) Promotional Event.
Anthony from the AJN group has agreed to come down on the date and he will be presenting a demo and explaination on his AJN ultra light carbon rods.
Prices of the rods will be at a discounted price with tee shirts and sticker decals to be given out as freebies for any AJN carbon rod purchase whilst stocks last.
The rods come in two sizes;
5' UL 4-10lb
5'6" UL 8-15lb
Suitable for kayak fishing/trout/bream/whiting/squiding/skippy/dingy fishing etc
Despite the light rating the rod can also be loaded up being full carbon so landing a descent snapper no problems and you'd be hard pressed to snap them.
We will also have other great specials in the store, and be including a sausage sizzle at the front for when the event is on.
The event will start shortly after 1pm on the 12th of november which falls on a saturday, it will be a great opportunity to come down, grab a bargain and see these rods in action.
for any other enquiries either PM us on here, or call 9248 3800.

sounder recommendation for water to 60m
Submitted by craig scott on Wed, 2011-10-12 13:40Hi,
I fish Geo Bay, and at times sneak out around the cape (Naturaliste).
I currently use a furuno fcv620.
I have been reading a bit about the 585 and the 1kw tranny. Does the 1kw system provide benefit when fishing these relatively shallow areas?
There is plenty written about it's good performance on 50kHz, would there be a gain to be had on 200?
Thanks guys/gals.

Surf Rod Advice for Saltist 6000H/Saltiga Surf
Submitted by mfauser on Fri, 2011-09-02 17:23Hello,
Originally I was being very idealistic thinking one outfit for all occasions (Salmon to Large Sharks). I'd mostly be targeting Salmon, Mulloway and Small Sharks though. I basically need some advice as when it comes to Land based fishing, I'm a fairly big novice (especially surf tackle).
As for the Reel at the moment it's the Saltist, Saltiga Surf (See Below) or Emblem Pro. (Saltiga may be overkill for what I need?)
$400~ Saltiga Surf 4500 : Weight - 515g
Ratio 4.1:1, Capacity 30lb Braid 350m
Saltiga Surf 6000 : Weight - 530g
Ratio 3.6:1, Capacity 50lb Braid 400m
$180~ Emblem Pro 6000: Weight - 623.68g
Ratio 4.9:1, Capacity lbs/yds
5500 (Spare) Size 20/290 - 25/230 - 30/190
6000 Size 25/280 - 30/230 - 40/170
$210~ Saltist 6000H: Weight - 708g
Ratio 6.2:1
Mono: 250 yds./25 lb., 210 yds./30 lb.
Braid: 440 yds./70 lb., 330 yds./80 lb.
As for the Rod perhaps:
Daiwa Sensor Surf
Model SS1302HRS - 13ft Long
2 Piece , Heavy Action
Cast Weight - 3 to 6oz , Line 20 to 40lb
- This is just what I have come to from looking around, not from any actual user advice so any input would be much appreciated!
Regards

light beach/rock spinning rod.
Submitted by wrasseman on Tue, 2011-07-26 20:08G'day all,
I'm looking for a slightly longer and heavier rod than my bream gear for throwing small metals, spoons, HBs and plastics off the beach and rocks. My preference is for something around 3-6kg with cast weights of 1/4-1oz and about 9-10'6" 2pc and to match with a 3000 stradic and 8-10lb braid (<$200). I'm tinking the daiwa Primegate 902LFS (http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/8216/cPath/22_80_207_1234/river-lake-fishing-freshwater/daiwa-primegate-902lfs.html) which I should be able to get for $180 landed (diff site but specs not in english on that site). Are there any other good options I haven't found yet?

Aftermarket Ball Knob for 4000 Shimano
Submitted by kinga86 on Mon, 2011-07-18 13:45Wondering if there are any aftermarket ball knobs which will directly fit onto a Sustain 4000 handle without needing any modifications? Just trying to make the reel a little more comfortable for spinning, jigging and fighting large fish before I head up to Onslow in September.

9' Spin Rod - Shore Based
Submitted by drof on Sun, 2011-07-17 09:17Hi All,
For the last 15 years I've been a dedicated bait and surf fisherman. However, after really enjoying my first summer of lure/SP fishing last year, I'm now looking to try it more from the beach/rocks, and need a longer rod.
My current SP setup is a 7' Shimano Starlo Squidy and 4000 Stradic. I've had a lot of fun with it, but now want to get into flicking plastics/slices/poppers from the beach etc where I previously would have ran a mullie etc (will probably continue to soak a bait on my surf rod, but want to be able to flick some lures at the same time)
I think I'm looking for a 9-10' rod (2 piece) to match up with my 4000 Stradic (with ~20lb braid) for under $200. Does anyone have any comments/recommendations about the following rods:
Shimano Jewel 902 (haven't seen one)
Shimano Starlo Classix 902 (felt pretty good in the store, but guides didn't look brilliant)
Fishing WA (FWA) 9' Spin (very interested in feedback on this rod)
Shakespeare Beach Elite 9' (don't know much about this one - haven't seen one)
I want to be able to cast an SP on 1/2oz jig head upto a medium slice (40g) or 100mm popper. Targeting Salmon, Tailor, school Mulloway etc.
Appreciate your comments.
Cheers,
Drof

reel service
Submitted by tot on Sat, 2011-06-25 11:58Hi all , i was recently told that when you buy a reel it is best to service the reel before use .
By this it was suggested that in the tackle shops , or straight from production the reels spin freely as there is no oil in the gear box .
So should i be filling up my little twin power with oil or wait till its done some work for the annual?
cheers kyle

Williamson Benthos Jigs
Submitted by PerthGlory on Wed, 2011-05-18 19:32On the back of some recent threads I went to Campbells today to buy some jig heads and soft plastics.
Bought some 7 inch Nuclear Chickens, gotta love that name. Lets hope the Dhuies love them too!!
Anyway also saw a throw out bin of Williamson Benthos Jigs. Usually up to $18 now all $9. Saw some 150gram up to 400gram. Didnt buy any myself, though thought some other site users/members might find this a good deal.

Advice on PE4 Popping/Stickbait/Metals Outfit
Submitted by kinga86 on Fri, 2011-05-13 12:53Hey guys,
Just after some advice. Heading to Onslow for 7 full days of fishing with the boat in September. Im after a good PE4 casting outfit for medium GT's, Tuna, Mackies etc. The rod must be able to cast the second biggest size dumbbell poppers as I already have a few, as well as work medium sized stickbaits and spin metals upto 100g in case I head upto Steep/Quobba spinning off the rocks at some stage. Rod will be used out of the boat so cannot be longer than 7'6". Also the reel may also be mated up to a jig rod at some stage so nothing too fast.
Looking for advice on a outfit sub $1000 and something sub $1800. I already have 40lb Nitlon PE which I will be using.
Been considering a new 2010 model Saltiga 4500 which looks like the perfect size but after reading a comprehensive review, ive been slightly put off.
Love Stella SW's like the 10000 size but high gear ratio might make it a pain for jigging if/when I purchase a matching jig rod.
Looked on ebay at the JDM Stella 8000PG but no where near as cheap as what I can buy a 10000sw for.
Should I consider an older Saltiga 4500z or Catalina 4500 or a new Twinpower 10000SW?
Rods I like the look of are the Smith KGS-70MH and GTK74PG. Also the new Demon Bloods look the goods for the price.
Thanks for any advice, I know their are some tackle junkies on here that will have the perfect solution :)
