River setup.
Submitted by doug on Mon, 2010-01-04 18:11Hey everyone just joined the site and am enjoying looking over the various posts. Looks like a great fishing community on here.
I'm interested in focusing on some river fishing (bream, flathead) and am stuck on what rod and reel to buy. I've been to a couple of shops but really have no idea where to start. Staff are usually helpful but I'd like to get feedback and advice from people who have experience with certain rods/reels.
Am looking to spend under $200 (not including line), just something rather basic to begin with. Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

game fishing question
Submitted by Feral on Fri, 2009-12-25 20:10i gave myself a christmas pressie of 3 penn inter reels but im having trouble finding rods to suit .. 2 of them are loaded with 100lb braid with mono top shots .. and the other has 80lb ... my only other penn reel is on a 30-80lb daiwa seahunter which is nice and soft in the tip .. any suggestions of rods up to 80lb that would suit ,80lb is plenty strong enough as i'll probably never catch a marlin big enough in exmouth to even need to use that sort of drag. hoping to find something that i can back the drag off so i can use the setups for macks as well.

reel advice wanted
Submitted by davey on Wed, 2009-11-18 19:48im about to have a rod built,it will be a 15 kilo spinning rod for general bottom bouncing with a bit of reserve for if mr sambo comes to play.
I will want a new reel too and am looking for recommendations.
i plan to run 25kilo braid,i dont have stella dollars so im looking around the $300 mark,
i usually fish in up to 50 meters so i dont need a huge line capacity, also i dont do jigging just baits.
i guess all i need is something with a decent drag and a bit of robustness
any suggestions ?????
