**I'm new to this forum/site, so not sure if this is the best place for this post, if not please let me know.**

I am looking to purchase a new sounder for our boat, the model I'm looking at is a Furuno 295, I have quoted by Taylor Marine $4950.00 and have been told it would be best to run dual transducers at an additional cost of $1100.00.

So I have a few questions to ask: 

What are the pro's and con's of purchasing a unit from the US as there seems to be a bit of saving to be made. 

Does anybody know roughly the cost of a wet box set up and if it's possible in a Caribbean Reef Runner and if yes does anyone know where you can get this done in Perth.  

Has anyone experienced transom mount transducers for this unit as I've been told I need to get special brackets made up for this purpose.  If yes, can you give any guidance on cost and where to get it done in Perth. 

Also if anyone has any opinion/advice on a transom mount versus a wet box for this unit I'd love to hear from you.

just after a little advise guys .. ive got a number of resin head lures for exmouth but do you guys prefer these or the soft head skirts ? im really trying to catch a marlin and sailfish.

also what sizes do you suggest , i think most of my lures are oscars and smaller (so 10" and less). do you suggest a few bigger lures at all ?? main lines are 50+ lb

anyone used or seen a powerjig rod in action. they look very similar to the jm powerspell. and their site powerjigfishing.com has vid links to jm gear in action. id love to know because they have just become available in Cairns. similar range to the jms also.

the sw fa thing has probably been done here a few times but ill have a shot anyway. got offered an 8000fa new for 750. mmm sexy reel. should i get it or the sw model. any advice based on experience and specs would be hugely appreciated.

With the deepwater fishing and jigging becoming very popular there's no doubt theres a big part of hard yakka with this extreme fishing and often very tedious!

The advancements of electric fishing reels has changed the deepwater fishing and not only made it more assessable but made it sooo much easier. I use a Daiwa one myself and when i get no bites, miss the fish ie drifting, hook a shitty fish and/or hooking greeneye sharks I just press the button. Up comes my jig as thats my prefered way to get em but also ideal for bottom rigs as even with water pressure they come up at a very fast rate. Normal retrieve speed say 100m per minute and up to 130m per minute with a maximum drag of 22kg!

Makes deepwater fishing easy and enjoyable which after many years of doing it the hard way took the shine off a bit but more so when i was wanting to find more new spots. I use the reel normally after hook up and fight all my fish manually as I prefer that but the reel is capable of power assist!
