Jigwrex PE6 or Van Staal PE6-PE10
Submitted by bouttime on Tue, 2007-10-02 05:42What would be the best buy. With all the sales at the moment thought i might upgrade my T-Curve 400 Jig. Looking at either one of these rods but not to sure. Have been told the Van Staals are a good rod but lack in after sales service for warranty where shimano are top notch. Have a Saltiga 40 overhead running PE6 Jigman to go on it. Only realy useing for jigging and deep water bottom fishing.
Thanks

thaught about trying rapala magnum xrap?
Submitted by Johnno on Sat, 2007-09-22 20:25has anyone thaught about trying the rapala magnum xrap but was turned off by the price and went for halco instead (nothing wrong with halco) i strongly recomend checking out these lures. i love the colours .its like a
3D finish, good quality hooks and split rings sharp as. they are a deep diver around 8-10m,they swim really well if you use multi strand plastic wap SS wire ive got one of every colour the bad news is that only one has seen the water and a 21kg mack smashed it like a train , swallowed it hole - so you cant see it when i hold it up in the photo (soon to be posted) oh well. and another secret you can get them for $16 in bali. hence the trip to bali in 3 months time with an empty suitcase

i recomend tld25 backbone combo for trolling
Submitted by Johnno on Sat, 2007-09-22 20:08hi guys, if anyone is in the market for a new boat rod i recomend the shimano tld 25 backbone combo. mine is set up for troling i have the 24kg backbone rod with a roller tip ive filled the reel up with 15kg mono i think it holds over 400m but dont hold me to that. the rod and reel is a qualitly entry level combo and is definately no penn sea boy( which is a good rod for kids) a secret of mine- go to www.motackle.com.au and you can get it for $265 plus shipping but if you can find a cheeper price they will beat it. thats where i got mine from and had no problems - i was a virgin in online ordering.even got a credit card just to order it. it arrived in 4 days. most pricing around perth is $290 to even $350 so it pays to shop around and i broke it in a few weeks ago at exmouth 1st fish a 21kg mack paid it self off. i wil soon post the pics. well guys let us know how ya went. happy shopping

Would like to hear from the DIY rod builders on the forum!
Submitted by jimbo1 on Tue, 2007-09-11 17:42G'day all,
I have been tossing thoughts around in my head (dangerous i know) about attempting to make my own rod one of these days.
And I think it would be great if there was a section on here from all those people who have had experience in the doing so. Giving the rest of us steps from start to finish and the do's and dont's, including setting up your own rod lathe.
Cheers

New Combo! All Tacklejunkies please report!
Submitted by rickets on Thu, 2007-08-02 19:29Ok since reading this magazine today, ive been droolling over the
Shimano Torso 20.... *drools*
so i went to campbells online and went looking to see if I could find a good all round BOAT and ROCK rod...
Came up with the Nitro 7' Overhead *droools*
So its gonna prolly cost me about $1000 to get this combo, possibly without braid... *mutter*...
Unless of course, you folks can think of another good combination?
Something close to the Torso (might not be anything out there..., i was thinking saltist for smoothness however, doesnt have lever drag) must have lever drag! I will be using it for all my main boat fishing and aswell as soaking a nice fat bait out in a gutter off a rock wall or jetty
Which is why I was thinking the Nitro 7' overhead which is about 12-15kg... im thinking about running 25-30pound braid (if I go 30 id obviously get the torso 30)
So all you tacklejunkies out there, know of a better way to satisfy this itch? Better Rod? or Similar reel?

Tents
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2007-08-01 10:11Anyone know of any really good 4 man tents that are easy to setup/disassemble (relatively quickly) that are plenty roomy, hardy, breathe well and going for a good price in store or online? I'm looking at upgrading my pissy 2 man tent to something decent, anyone got any suggestions/recommendations?
Cheers,

I need a new rod:
Submitted by rickets on Sun, 2007-07-29 09:48Hey, as i wrote in my bream thread, I snapped the raider yesterday so im seeking to buy a new rod...
however, my question isnt related to brand but rather, size....
It will be rigged with my Procaster spinning reel running 4lb fireline and 6lb fluro leader.... mainly for river/estuary work with splastics and light bait.
SO was just wondering, what would be the absolute minimum size be that I should get to fit the outfit...
Is 5'6 graphite too short?

New custom berley mix!
Submitted by SPESS on Thu, 2007-07-19 08:57Hey guys ive just made some new pellets which seem to be the ducks nuts on many species. Ive been trialing them for a while now but believe ive hit the best combination. They are a 6mm pellet loaded with crushed wheat, lupins, oat hulls, meat and fish meal. Then lightly coated in tuna and aniseed oil. Fish feramones are also added. When applied to the water they sink slowly breaking up as they go down with the lighter products rising back to the surface and the heavier lining the ocean floor. One hand full makes a nice slick and every fish ive caught while using it is spewing it out...works good. Sherbert has tried my last mix which is awsome but this ones better.
Ive made the product up in 25kg buckets and if the last trials work good (trying soon on deep water fish and the KG's) it will be avail for sale.( Have to run this by the fishwrecked boss first but see how we go. )
Cheers. :"SPESS'S FISH SLAYER BERLEY"

Which one to choose?
Submitted by max199 on Mon, 2007-06-25 19:51Just wanted to get some feed back regarding which braid to use that is NOT cheap BUT doesn't cost the earth. Something that would compare to say 50 - 80lb Berkley Whiplash as I use this for jigging on my Stella 20 thou' and is great stuff. Predominantly I will be using it for bottom bashin' and it will be spooled on my NEW PENN TRQ200 OH reel..... Thanks lads.....

Baitcasting reel thoughts....??
Submitted by rickets on Mon, 2007-06-11 19:48Gday guys,
This is my first post so I hope I dont contravene any etiquette on these forums or whathaveya...
Im looking at adding to my arsenal of gear, in the way of a 12' beach solution, plus a fast/medium rod for baitcasting with, probably around the 7 and a half to 8 foot mark....
I want to share the reel between the 12 and the 7-8ish and currently, two reels which have caught my fancy are the Abu 7000 - Abu 7500 Series, aswell as the C3 options... and the Daiwa Millionaire Proteus 300.
Im looking at using 20 or 25 pound braid and would like a reel which uses ratchets. Can anyone offer any advice or recommendations as to what sort of Rod to get for the 12 and the 7-8ish? Graphite? Glass? Live Fibre?
Also, has anyone got any reviews on the above reels or perhaps a better suggestion ranging from $150-$300 which fits the bill to use on both rods? Any advice would be great :)

WHAT ROD/REEL
Submitted by DORO on Mon, 2006-07-31 10:21Just a quick question.
What rod/reel combo would be good for my 6yr old son?
Ussually we just go of jetty or rock wall and catch
some bream/taylor,which is fine. But his rod needs to be upgraded
so I need some expert advice like length wieghtand line that would be ok
for jetty and when we go out in the boat(this weekend weather permiting)
haven't been out for a while. Don't want anything to expensive or really cheap and nasty. So are K-Mart or Big W any good for decent rod reel combo's.
Any help would be appreciated thanx

Various Jigs Review
Submitted by Kasey L. on Thu, 2006-07-13 23:54Hello fellow members,
With a whole plethora of jigs quickly entering the market, I thought I'd share my own humble views and opinions about some of the jigs that I have used. Hopefully, some of you might find this information useful or practical, and please feel free to share or comment. I'll add to this as I go along buying and trying, based on my experience with them. Of course, I can't afford to try each and every one on the market, but hopefully I can cover a few, both those that are available locally and perhaps with a few exotic ones thrown in. =)
Of course, I don't have any commercial affiliations with anyone, although I do have favourites. Despite my limited experience, I will try and contribute information to the best that I can, which hopefully some readers might find beneficial. I am still learning, but would like to share that learning process with whoever would like to read along... And if you think I am doing something wrong, don't hesitate to correct me!
I'll include where you can buy the product from, how I think it works, and what kind of fish I like to target them with, along with anything else I think might be useful. If you have a favourite product that you think I should try, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
This is a free-of-charge, information sharing, hopefully unbiased, honest personal one-angler only review of products that I am doing voluntarily (in between fishing time) for Fishwrecked.com
Just because I like one thing over another might not mean one is better or worse, maybe its a confidence thing or lack in skill, so no false assumptions please, I just thought it might be useful for other anglers to know.
Enjoy. =)
