Beejaling shoal trip
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2015-06-11 17:07Took mate Dave for a run up to Beejaling shoals today to wet a line and give the boat a run. The conditions were bloody tough and for a while I was in 2 minds on whether to turn round and head for shelter.
The first 2 pics are of the Fascine in Carnarvon as we were leaving at 0730, the third is when we decided to get our sea legs back together and have a feed around 1030.
Finished up with 3 pinkies, two black snapper [one was a good one], a crimson sea perch and a good estuary cod. Lost a good broad bar mackerel estimated around 15kg from having no gaff, a couple of unstoppable cod and heaps of small pinkies and grassies released. All up a good relaxing day

Penguin Island Sandbar: Drowning Settlement.
Submitted by Moking on Thu, 2015-06-11 14:42Just don't know what to think about this.
Maybe my attitude is all wrong-and I should think "good on em" - They sued the State Goverment for undisclosed sum.
I do know that no sum of money can bring back loved ones...but- there are a two large Warning Signs on the beaches, clearly warning of the Dangers of attempting to walk across the Sandbar.
Nobody forced them to attempt the crossing. There is a safer method, pay the small price for the Ferry and arrive safely back on the mainland.
You have to actually walk past the Ferry to attempt the Crossing.

Round 11
Submitted by sea-kem on Wed, 2015-06-10 19:42The Eagles to bounce back with a win against Essendoping with King Darling back in the side. Are Collingwood the new flat track bullies? Their seven wins from the bottom seven sides, imposters methinks. Well we'll find out this weekend GWS for me . And because I'm not tipping GC over the Shockers, Sydney just over North and I think Melbourne might stand up this week over the Saints.

Chris Judd the best west coast player ever ???????
Submitted by petermac on Tue, 2015-06-09 20:39So the footy gurus are saying Chris Judd was the best ever eagles player, he is up there but isn't the best , yes two brownlows and 5 best and fairest and multable all Australian , but best eagle I don't think so , think Peter Metera , Dean Kemp ,Chris Mainwaring , Glen Jackovich all put in more games than Juddy did for the eagles , and when the talk about best first 100 games think Craig Turley

Spanglies
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sat, 2015-06-06 15:29Had to do a run up to Exmouth to pick up the FESA/ VRMA training trailer and bring it back ready for our upcoming weekend down at Denham. During the evening before over the best part of a bottle of Dranbui we decided to give on of Jeff's spots a go in the morning. Was about 630 when we chucked the first bait out and we were back home at 0750 after travelling back around from past the lighthouse.
Not sure on the weights but guessed that they would go around 2-2.5kg and 70cm. Of course true to history I caught the biggest but Jeff made up for it by getting two, so was a good little session . Even felt sorry for the bloke fishing 70 metres further along who spent most of the time replacing snagged rigs while we didn't lose a single hook.

Fishwrecked welcomes new Site Sponsor - How to use a Fishfinder and Fremantle Boat School
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2015-06-04 18:28Hi Gang,
Please make welcome our new site sponsor, How to use a Fishfinder and Fremantle Boat School (John Adams). Most of you have heard of John's workshops through Oceanside, but he also has his book for sale via his website, which is well worth a read!
The work shops will provide the user with a thorough understanding of how colour echo sounders work and the principles for detecting fish, such as target strength of fish and bottom discrimination. The key capabilities of echo sounders, and the screen options and tuning functions common to all modern echo sounders are explained. Detailed information on how to set up an echo sounder and how to adjust the settings, including frequency selection, Bottom Lock, Bottom Zoom, Bottom Follower, White Line function and Time Variable Gain. Illustrations and underwater acoustic images are provided throughout the course to assist the user in their learning and applying the information to real life echo sounding out on the ocean/rivers/lakes/dams. All popular sounder models are covered, not just Furuno.

Stradic 8000FJ & 4000FJ repairs
Submitted by EKUL on Thu, 2015-06-04 09:39Hey Guys
Can anybody recommend a service/repair NOR area?
Have an 8000FJ that went for a swim the other week and is full of sand.
also my 4000FJ needs a new spring and bolt, bail arm has no spring load in it atm. (don't give your reels a service when sitting on the toilet as nuts and bolts like to go for a non-return swim)
any recommendations would be great.
Cheers
Luke

Sub run
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2015-06-01 20:24Had to do a run out to sea in one of the rescue boats to collect a seaman off a submarine and take him in to hospital.
Was an awesome sight to see it waiting for us to come alongside to get him on board right as the sun was coming up. Not something sees every day and not likely to again for quite a while.

finished - kill tank
Submitted by randall df223 on Mon, 2015-06-01 13:37Now that Monkey Mia and Steep Point are done and dusted, it's time for the winter project and some maintenance to commence.
A pressing job is to replace the carpet. But more importantly to reseal the hatch over the fuel tank which I have notice has been leaking when we hose the deck after bleeding a catch (the bilge water was coming out red...)
It has come out in one piece which will make it easier to cut and fit the new piece.
The hatch just lifted straight off. Every rivet corroded.
Also on the list is to replace or recalibrate the fuel guage.
But the biggest, and most exciting will be a kill tank here...
I'be had a look underneath I can fit a tank that's about 1000 x 500 x 250 - 300 that fills and drains through the transom.
My initial pricing for the tank is about $800 which includes two hatches, hose, ball valve, skin fitting and making and fitting of the tank.

Roof top tent advice
Submitted by ChrisG on Sun, 2015-05-31 12:53been debating for years whether to buy one, have always talked myself out of it and in the absence of going away with anyone who had one I always figured lots of cash for just a tent....however on a recent trip one of the guys brought his and I'm now convinced and as soon as I have some cash I'm going to buy one.....was awesome!
i'll probably be limited by cost to one of the cheaper versions such as KINGS or TIGERZ11.....has anyone had any experiance with these?.......retail for about $850.
if I don't go for one of these brands, I'll prob chase a good brand but second hand.
the real reason for my post.....does anyone have one mounted to a dual cab Ford Ranger? I don't want to mount above the Flexi fibreglass canopy because with it being a work car I don't want to buy an internal frame (as work might take the car back oneday and I would have done my dough), I'm happy to buy good roof bars that i can remove if/when I loose the work car......
any advise would be appreciated, especially how mounted, rating of roof bars/type etc, plus any issues anyone may have had.
obviously I need to mount so it opens sideways
cheers, Chris

FIFA
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2015-05-29 08:04This bloody bunch makes the Essondon saga look like nothing. And what sort of power has Sepp Blatter if anyone can still contemplate having him as the boss.
I liked how Michel Platini played, and with EUFA stance I think he would be a future man for the job.
Not that I am a huge fan of soccer (a few goals a game is boring) but this bunch is just plain crooks.

swerage spill
Submitted by petermac on Thu, 2015-05-28 21:18Bloody 3 million lt of sewerage spilt into safety bay department that is responsible says "we are sorry" fucking usless, when I was at Rio we accidently lost 20 lts of engine oil into Hampton Harbour, bloke that did it was hauled over the coals by Rio and the environmental dept.
When I pushed a 20 kg lead acid Battery into the ocean rather than risk the jump back onto the pilot boat with it in my arms in 35 knots winds and a 4 meter swell from a navigation Buoy , I was nearly sacked by Rio and was investigated by the environmental dept, (thanks woodside , they provided the pilot boat and the skipper that dobbed me in) it was only after I took the complaint to Rio fair treatment and pointed out "whats more important me or a fucked battery" they backed off . Environmental dept issued me with a warning
