What boat would you get, if you had 15k
Submitted by Josh on Tue, 2014-11-11 16:47So, I am downgrading in order to get a house, was always planning on putting all the boat money into a house, but I decided I can't go without the boat. So I will be looking at spending about the 15k mark, what would you go for in that price bracket? Main uses would be fishing, with freediving Crays and Spears second use. And maybe a couple times a year pulling a knee boarder or biscuit, with the rare cruise on the river.
Ihave always had 2 stroke, and ally. I am not an ally die hard, because it does get a little bangy on the way home from rotto in the arvo, and 4 stroke would be preferable for fuel efficiency.

1st Storm of the season
Submitted by Dale on Sun, 2014-11-09 17:48
Finding myself back in the Pilbara these days after working most of the last 2 years in the mid west and our first storm of the season has been making it's present felt here at Hope Downs South Village. Gee I've missed something's not working up here. Good old fashioned downpour, tonnes of really close thunder and lightning. Had just enough break in it to get back to my donga.

New forum member saying hello
Submitted by discofish on Sun, 2014-11-09 16:59Hello All,
Just thought I'd introduce myself seeing as I have just joined the site. My name is Stu I've been a long time follower of the site (about 7 years). Joined up mainly because I'm looking to meet new people to fish with and generally get more involved with the site as it has been a great source of info for me over the years. I enjoy a range of fishing from surf tailor and mullas, jigging, trolling and casting for pelagics, anything really. Usually go away on a few trips a year - south for the salmon run, kalbarri, exmouth, shark bay, esperence are some of my favourite spots however looking to do some trips to abrolhos and the Monties in the not too distant future hopefully. I love an adventure and always keen to pack the swag and disappear fishing somewhere for a while. Anyway probably rambled on enough haha. Fish on!

Fremantle Harbour Today (Saturday)
Submitted by Swompa on Sat, 2014-11-08 07:23Fremantle Harbour yacht Race. Is on today between 1330 and 1600 so the harbour will be full of yachts.
As we are racing, and as most powerboats have better manuverability than yachts, please do your best to keep clear.
If you have nothing to do, and want to learn new words, come down for a watch.
Cheers

Week in review...
Submitted by Red Dog on Wed, 2014-11-05 06:38Take yourself back a week or so ago and tell me if you could have predicted this...
So first up we have a dude who surfs with a Great White,
then some dude decides to 'surf' a whale,
then said whale washes up on a popular beach that has the local council doing their best imitation of an episode of Benny Hill (should've just called the Japs in, it'd be Sushi by now),
then the Melbourne cup is won by a German horse with an English jockey and the favourite tragically dies after coming last.

New Epirp Needed
Submitted by D_d_001 on Tue, 2014-11-04 09:33the old ACR epirb battery is near out of date. (A ridiculous $300 for battery replacement and month wait !!!) will never buy one of these again.
I guess most here don't have "hands on experience" with using an EPIRB but any input to makes and models good or anything to watch out for would be appreciated.
prob just going for a GME 600. (GPS, 10year battery replacement, maintinence ...if needed in perth)

rivets
Submitted by unhurry on Sun, 2014-11-02 13:55Hi guys,
I need to repair the skids on my trailer as the rivets have come loose in areas and there is some lifting.
Question is, what rivets to use? Trailser is Galvanized steel; does that mean that I need to stick with like rivets, or will aluminiums be ok? Perhaps either will do? I know that thee is someone on the forum who will have the knowledge to share,
Thanks in advance.

One very lucky surfer!
Submitted by bod on Sat, 2014-11-01 11:18The most important wave he'll ever catch:
- Andy Johnston was surfing at West Beach near Esperance, south-east of Perth, on September 21
- People ashore spotted the dark shadow looming and started to honk their car horns as a warning
- The surfers managed to clear the water onto a nearby reef but Mr Johnston opted to stay put
- Photos showing just how close Mr Johnston came only emerged on Thursday
- Two weeks later Sean Pollard was attacked at nearby Wylie Bay, east of Esperance, on October 2
- The 23-year-old lost his left forearm and his other hand at the wrist when he was mauled by a shark
This is the frightening moment a three-metre Great White started trailing a surfer back to shore, just two weeks before another man lost his arm and hand in a nearby shark attack.
Andy Johnston was out with a small group of surfers at West Beach near Esperance, south-east of Perth, on September 21 when people ashore spotted the dark shadow looming.
Other surfers managed to clear the water onto a reef after people started to honk their car horns to warn of the approaching shark, but Mr Johnston opted to stay put.

Andy Johnston was out with a small group of surfers at West Beach near Esperance, south-east of Perth, on September 21 when people ashore spotted the dark shadow looming
'I'd rather try to hold my ground against it and not freak out and make a commotion,' he told the Esperance Express following his close encounter.
'If you're going to get chomped then you're going to get chomped - there's nothing you can do about it.'
The photos showing just how close Mr Johnston came only emerged on Thursday - a month after his close encounter.
Frits De Bruyn, who was on holiday in Western Australia at the time, was standing at a nearby lookout and managed to capture the drama.
'We were at a lookout and we saw a shadow in the water. It became evident it was shark and everyone started shouting. There was about a dozen surfers and paddle boarders in the water,' Mr De Bruyn told Daily Mail Australia.
'He followed him to shore for a bit... he was only a body-length behind him.
'The surfer went straight back out a few minutes after the shark swam away.'

Other surfers managed to clear the water after people started to honk their car horns to warn of the approaching shark, but Mr Johnston opted to stay put

The photos showing just how close Mr Johnston came only emerged on Thursday - a month after the close encounter
The un-fazed surfer said he didn't even think the shark posed a threat, but admits if things had gone badly it would have been traumatic for anyone who witnessed the attack.
'It seemed just curious and I didn't want to give it a reason to chase me so I tried to behave casually and keep an eye on it,' Andy Johnston said.
'But I didn't know it came up quite so close as I was paddling into the wave to come into the beach with the other lads.
'If you're going to say a shark is a threat every time you see one, well that's not true.
'They're doing their thing and we're doing our thing.
'I probably have a higher risk of breaking my neck on that reef than the shark causing me harm.'

While other surfers cleared the water, Andy Johnston remained still to 'not freak out and make a commotion'

Yacht Rescue of Seabird
Submitted by Iceman on Thu, 2014-10-30 11:26Left Hillarys at 6.30PM Tuesday and got back 11.00am Yesterday. Vessel left Mindarie and of Seabird lost part of its mast and eventually both engines. Day one of round world trip. Yacht was 46 ft and 25 tons. Took us 9 hours to tow back to Two Rock due to rough conditions (25+ Knots winds).
Vessel was too big for Lancelin or Two Rocks sea rescue to tow. Two Rocks did assist in locating the vessel approx 7nm of Seabird. Certainly one of the longest rescues I have been involved in.
Too be honest given the condition of the yacht I would not have taken for a river cruise let alone a trip around the world
