Safety Notice: Electrical Cable Recall

Just heard on 6PR and thought the FW community should be informed.  Would hate to have someone lose their home and fishing gear.  I advised work and they sent this out to all;

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has announced a recall for a particular brand "Infinity" electrical cable.

Please have a read under the following link to know more since these cables may have been used in your own home. The substandard/potentially dangerous cables could be installed in houses built from ~2010 and/ or in renovations. There is no immediate danger but the cable insulation might deteriorate in high temperatures, become brittle leading to potential electric shocks or fires.

Safety Notice:

https://www.accc.gov.au/update/infinity-electrical-cable-recall

Please take 5 minutes to read this and if in doubt about your own home, arrange a professional electrician to check your situation.

Cheers Pete

Random question for sparkys

I've been investigating how much power my house uses and where it goes. So one night I went around and turned everything off, fridge, lights, tv stuff. EVERYTHING. I noticed my solar system uses a fair bit at night so I isolated that as well, our hot water is a solar hart gas boosted aparently. For some reason I cant get our digital meter to read less than 1.5 amps. Am I correct in calculating this to be 350 watts going somewhere?

My suspicions are something to do with those 12 volt downlights that you get. We have a set of 5, 35 watters in the kitchen. So theoretically when I turn these on it should be using 175 watt and showing a rise of 0.7 amps on the meter. I dont see a rise at all. Is it possible that the transformer running these  lights is just sitting in the roof getting hot and wasting THAT much power even when the lights are not on?

We also have those downlights in the bathroom, possibly indicating we may have two of those transformers, could they be using the 350 watts I see on my meter? Dont know if I'm way off track here...

Need a Chippie for a client, to install an external feature wall and screen, small but nice job.

Great Idea at the Time

at some time everyone has a great idea but a bit further down the track the brilliant idea wasn't so smart and backfires.

A mate and I heard of a spot down south and got hold of a mud map on how to get in to Fish Creek east of Windy Harbour. The bloke who told us said the track in off the road was pretty rough so make sure everything was tied down. Got all the gear and tucker ready for a 3 day trip and with the rough track in mind decided to stick the eggs in a plastic container and poured the sugar over them surmising that being supported all round they would be safe--------bad idea!!!!

Have you ever drank a cup of black tea or coffee with bits of now poached egg floating around in it.

Another on the spot idea on same trip was to turn the trailer over and sleep under it when it started to piss down, ok for a while until a river decided to run through soaking everything, trying to sleep sitting up in an early model Landrover ute is not a comfortable event.

Not a lot of fish caught but some top moments, like the mate copping a wave and filling his waders up and nearly getting washed in.

home solar panels

Lookin into a solar power system for my house... Dont know a heap about it. Basically sick of pissing $400-$500 every 3-4 months.

Anyone got one? How big is your system, and how much was it? Any companies recommended, any to avoid? I have heard your system is only as good as the inverter youre running.

Basically, I want to reduce my power bill down to nearly nothing. Not sure  what size system id need for that? Not really interested in feeding the grid/getting a rebate. Got a massive north facing roof for it too, so should work well.

Lost fisherman?

Got a call from local police at 1830 on Sunday asking if we could put the rescue boat in the water and do a search around the 1 mile jetty as someone had left all their fishing gear, water bottle and pushbike behind.

With another member and the head copper we spent about 4 hours doing grid patterns on both sides of the jetty with no result. Suspicions have it that it was a backpacker and he won't be missed until he misses paying for his campsite then the alarm bells will ring and a report made to police.

Back on the water next morning at first light but with the other big rescue boat and our creek boat to spend another 6 hours doing grid searches and the creek boat scouring inside the river mouth, One Tree Point and inside the banks to the north of the river mouth where the big boats couldn't reach.

The search was suspended at 12 yesterday with no results and no one reported as missing but we were asked if we could do another run on Friday just in case something pops up.

In the process of the search another good fishing spot was found and no doubt will be checked out in good time and it was good training for the crews but not so good for their kind hearted community supportive bosses for letting them have time off work.

GME MT600G Eprib

My old GME MT400 Eprib is to be replaced for October as the battery expires and don't see the point in replacing, and rather Modern up to a GPS version.

Was looking at the MT406, but then found this is being superseded by the New MT600G.

Probably going to stay with a GME one as fits nicely on boat dash or maybe something similar in size.

Heard a few problems with MT600G searching the net, would like to hear of any thoughts or problems anyone else may have with the MT600G?

Only specs I could find are from Whitworths, as the GME site doesn't even list the product yet.

Foxtel through Telstra

Howdy all, we are moving back up to the big smoke, renting a new house in Wellard in one of the new areas. Chances are the owners won't allow a dish hanging off the roof, but looking at Testra, the foxtel signal must come in on the phone line. Would this be right?

Cheers

round 23 - never stop dreaming....

Freo can still finish second....

4. FREMANTLE

60 points (15 wins, six losses) 131.9 per cent

The run home:

Rd 23: Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium

If the Dockers win next week:

- And the Lions win in Geelong, they finish third

- They can finish no lower than fourth

- They earn a home qualifying final in the unlikely event that Geelong loses, Hawthorn loses, and Fremantle and Collingwood's combined winning margin is at least 90 points

nathan jones and the melbourne fc

As a long suffering Melbourne supporter , I thought Roosy would be our savior , but think he will jump ship after next year and I don't blame him the cattle he has to work with are hopeless . The only bloke on their list I rate is Nathan Jones and I recon he should be made a free agent that bloke puts in twice as hard as any of his team mates , and for him to be made to play in that team should be considered a cruel and unusual punishment

Portable 12v washer

 www.ozito.com.au/pwb-012

I found this after reading another post about freshwater deck washes. I dont have a freshwater tank but I thought something like this may be handy for extended trips which you could fill before you went and use it for cleaning off the rods/reels/lures, windscreen and even showering under whilst over at the islands or at Steep for instance. This one however doesn't look very water tight but I thought someone on here may be able to sugest another brand that would work well for this aplication...

Cheers...

Viset Pen

Hi All

Great Service

Hey Fellow Fishwreckers,

Long time since I posted anything. But today I felt I had to say something.

In the process again of doing up a project. We are building an old Savage 24 into a walkaround centre console. The engine picked to do the work is a 2006 250hp Etec. Picked up from Port Hedland and trucked down here a few months ago. Getting her ready to go on the back of the Big Bitch (affectionately called) and finding parts I have ended up at site sponsors, Chivers Marine.

The service I got from them was second to none. OEM parts were very reasonably priced and advice was very forthcoming. I went away from them with a bit more knowledge, the part I needed and a future aquisition well in my sights.

Thanks boys I will be back soon even though you are on the other side of town.

Cheers!

Is your boat insured while at the boat shop???

Gday all,

I just thought I would share some bad luck of mine and hopefully avoid anyone else having their gear pinched.

Last year I dropped my normally trusty tinnie in to the Hayway Marine in Belmont( it's ok they have since closed up) for a service and the guys were great and had it fixed promptly. I was away for a few weeks and arranged to pick it up when I returned.

While I was away I got a call from the shop with the bad news that thieves had cut the fence and knocked a heap of gear of including my motor, but no worries he said, insurance would cover it and I would get a nice new motor. Great I thaught, even though my old Mariner was still like new.

Well the next call from them said their insurance would not cover anything as the alarm system was out of service at the time, so now the landlords insurance would cover it. Hmmmm I thaught, this sounds bad but let's hope the landlord has insurance. After 3 months I rang them to see how things had progressed and was told that his insurance would not pay either so no-one would be giving me a motor. I rang consumer protection and was told I could take it to court but it would take time and money with no guarantees. So essentially I have had a great rowboat sitting in my front yard still!

I assumed that every dealership looking after customers boats would have insurance but clearly there are some rogues out there. Be careful and ask them if your not sure, get it on email if you can as this stands up in court much better than a verbal " yeah of course we have insurance!". If you have your boat insured make sure it is also covered while at the dealership.

What goes around comes around and I hope my outboard attacks its thieves with the prop one day, but it has taught me you that you can't be too careful!

New trailer reviews

Well the trailer under my Stacer 469 Nomad has just about run it's race and I'm in the market for a new one, just wondering if any one out there has opinions on what's good and what's not, 2 requirements are that it has to be heavy duty and needs a centre walkway, currently it's a telwater and has been a good trailer lasting about 9 years with around 350 to 400 launches into the salt.

cheers, Daisy

Lets Start the new Round - 22

The other is getting to big - again!

Whale Lifts Yakkers

I like to keep my distance .. and would’ve called it a Code Brown situation personally .

Happy 40th Birthday Luke Chivers!

Happy 40th Birthday Luke Chivers from everyone at Chivers Marine.

Glad to be home

Now that I am home after 2 weeks down seeing the missus in hospital in the big smoke I realise why I live up here.

Too many people who don't give a shit, can't be bothered answering when you speak to them, kamikaze drivers who refuse to let you merge in traffic because they might go one spot back down the line, shop assistants who can't be bothered talking while serving you and worst of all IT WAS BLOODY FREEZING.

For those that sent messages before, the missus is slowly getting better, the nurses and doctors at RPH are magnificent

Cant believe it - WCE still a finals chance

Looking at the AFL ladder predictor. If my predictions are correct we can still make it. BUT not off our own doing. We need NM to beat Adelaide next weekend, and Sydney to beat Richmond the following.

And obviously a lot of other "things" have to fall in place, like simply we have to beat Melbourne and the Suns!!!

Im dreaming right??

Garlic

So anyone out there growing their own garlic and have any different cultivars they'd like to swap after harvest this year? I've become a little obsessed with Garlic lately with the lack of fishing and I'm interested to know if anyone else on here gets into their Garlic growing too.

I've got about 12 varities for about 1,000 plants this year so hoping to atleast get a few good bulbs out of it! Happy to swap a few bulbs of any good cultivars for the Perth area.

I'm Resurfacing.

G'day all, yes I've been quiet for a bit and some of you probably know why. My brother in law was killed last Monday morning while doing the Black Dog Ride. A truck in front of him turned without indicating and my brother in law wasn't quick enough and collided. He was doing something he believed in, helping other people and the guy driving the truck made one bad choice, now the rest is history. Our last week has just been turned upside down, but life goes on. The Black dog ride finished the WA ride on Thursday where the whole group stopped in town where we met up and thanked them and some of Les's stuff was given back to his wife, my wife's sister. So why am I telling you all of this, well I guess it's all about making good choices, when driving, when working and when playing.

RIP Les.

Dale

What are they thinking these days?
