The whites run-"our obligation"
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2022-12-17 20:35Personally (along with several other members here) I have been involved for a few years now on protecting and enhancing our access to lobster as a community resource.
In my mind a large part of this, is the number of lobsters that we give away to people who cant afford them normally or through other avenues.
Curious what proportion people give away?
Part of the reason for this, is that this in the future will also help with our continued access to this fantastic resource

arvo session
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2022-12-17 18:19Went down to the bank for the last couple of hours of incoming tide. End result 3 queenies all putting on a great display of jumps. Unfortunately as I use live bait all were gill hooked and bleeding before landing. Won't go to waste, traded for lots of mangoes for Sandy. Biggest went 850mm

Lowrance elite 7 hdi ticking
Submitted by shane78 on Fri, 2022-12-16 19:18Hey guys have a elite 7 hdi that is ticking not coming from the transducer but from the unit itself, could this be why I cant pick up anything when the transducer is plugged in as my elite 7x chirp works when the same transducer is plugged in.
Not something you see everyday in a suburban backyard

Junior Skipper
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2022-12-11 09:59Took the rewired boat out for a test run yesterday to Libby Quay then the Camo and besides docking it I didn't touch the wheel all day. Most impressive was Captain Missy Moo (8) who drove us from Heirison Is to the stadium jetty lining up the nav markers with no zig zagging like her older bros 10 and 12.
Couple of nervous moments under the bridges with the wind but they did amazing. Best part was they all cleaned out the boat and washed it down just leaving me the outboard flushing.
*They always wear life jackets even in the river but slipped our minds after Libby Quay

Crabbing
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2022-12-01 18:32Got the drop nets on the boat ready for a bash tomorrow and would expect fisheries to pay a visit when we return-----bit late though. Have seen boats out crabbing for the last week and scoopers up the estuary getting an early start and not an officer to be seen, always the way isn't it.

Float Dock to suit 6.6m Trailcraft - Lease/Hire short term
Submitted by bunfish on Wed, 2022-11-30 16:56Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has a Float Dock or Sea Pen to suit 6.6m Trailcraft on 8m pen for lease/hire over DEC/JAN?
Boat is down at Port Coogee for the couple of months & was hoping to put up out of the water instead of pulling out once a week for cleaning.
Cheers,

repairing an old reel seat
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2022-11-30 14:56After fishing with an old friend since I was in my teens travelling all over from Albany all the way up the coast to hedland. Like me it's falling apart. I have replaced runners and re varnished it a few times over the years but sadly the reel seat has come adrift. Without stripping the butt down as I don't think I could get the same cork grips.
is there a way to secure the seat properly. Was thinking something like liquid nails squeezed down the gap between the seat and the rod. The rod has to be 60 plus years old and I would hate to retire it yet. Any advice on how to go about it.

Walpole Fishing
Submitted by joel231 on Tue, 2022-11-29 13:41Hi All,
Heading down to Walpole in Jan for 10 days and looking to do some fishing out in the ocean. Will be my first time navigiting out of the inlet to the ocean, is there anyone on here that has done it recently that can comment on conditions or has done it before and can offer some tips and info on the best way to attack it. What to look for etc. Was thinking of taking my drone down so i can get a better look from the air to see if there is a particular route to take. Obviously weather is a important factor and not willing to risk heading out if the weather and or swell is not favourable.
Cheers

quick beach session
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2022-11-29 13:30Had an hour to kill so I thaught I would go and collect some bait. First couple of livies as usual go out on a line. 1 was taken by a small shark which I lost at the beach. 2nd one hooked me a beauty and after a massive first run peeling off about 200 mtrs of line I finally turned it . Eventually got it on the beach , an eight foot aprox saw fish . Only pic I got before release was with a size 11 thong next to its head for comparison. They certainly go hard. Not easy to get on the beach by yourself either

MPPT Solar Controller
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2022-11-29 12:27I bought a solar blanket for topping up the boat batteries on holidays etc but am going to ditch the cheap controller it came with. Can anyone recommend a 10a controller that isn't going to break the bank that I can reliably leave hooked up for a few days without cooking my batteries? Are the Jaycar Powertech ones any good as I've got a voucher for them...

Buying a jetski - advise sought
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Mon, 2022-11-28 15:28Hi fishwreckers
I am looking at buying a jetski and wanted to know what to avoid
Looking for something for myself/kids to use at rotto/river
more interested in something reliable than fast (not interested in supercharged 350kph sea rodents!)
2-3 seater and something i can tow behind boat (understand a valve needs to be installed to stop water being forced back up into jet unit)
any tips on what is a good reliable unit? (looking at 2nd hand)
cheers

Donkey red in 20mtrs
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2022-11-27 18:40Plan was to hit the water at 7 as low tide was at 6 but as we arrived at 7 there was a queue of boats lined up waiting. There was no water at the bottom of the ramp only mud. Oh well we just have to wait. At 7:30 the boats started to launch.
Headed out to a spot we marked last week that was holding fish , Sandy was the first to hook up as usual ,to bring up a nice black. As I was sorting that one out Sandy started topping me on the back as my hearing aid is busted and can't hear much I looked over to see my rod going nuts. Had a damn good fight on my hands with the fish pulling line out as fast as I was bringing it in. After a 10 minuit fight too and fro a donkey red came to the surface, to say I was stoked is an understatement. After that got nothing else in the area so moved on .
As we were heading out to another spot we had marked came across a nice size sea snake which we got a couple of pics and as it was showing fish under us we gave it a go but nothing. Headed out to where's ands got her red last week with not much showing so just set a drift and hoped for the best. Ended up with me getting a dark tail and followed by a spanglie . The fishing totally shut down . Wind blowing about 12 knots and we were drifting against the wind. 16oz sinker in 16 to 18 mtrs of water and couldn't hold bottom . Oh well , gave up and headed in . Finally I out fished Sandy .

red and black feed
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2022-11-20 16:49Got out Saturday even tho the forecast wasn't that great. Blowing 16 knots at 8 but calming down. On the water by 6 heading out to one of our spots 13nm out. Plan was a quick fish there then head out exploring new ground once the wind dropped off. As usual the forecast was wrong ,didn't drop off till about 11 . Did the dash out to new ground while it was calmer . Only got about 3nm when I saw a good flare up on the sounder. Quick about face and set for a drift or 2 before we moved on which resulted In a few nice size blacks.
Went out further and found a couple of more good areas to try next time out as we wanted to give an area we were told about by a local a good going over.end result was Sandys first legal pilbara red , not massive but well and truly legal. Wind hand turned and blew up again so we called it a day. 23nm to the ramp.
End result 9 blue lined emp and 1 red with many smaller emperor going back. Smallest we kept went 350 . Good day out and found more new ground and best of all I wasn't at work

(Wife says im usually a grumpy old bastard at around halfway through ban but this year she reckons ive been pretty good). Looking forward to getting into boat to have it ready for 16 December. No doubt others on here will start doing the same. Just wondering has there been any mention of when and how the new extended ban is set to be introduced ? cheers

back into the black
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2022-11-06 20:05After a month of not getting the tub out we bit the bullet in not the best conditions. Headed out early trying to avoid the nor westerlies that have been pumping. Started with a few small black which mostly went back as they were under size. Kept a few just for a feed if we didn't get anything else. Headed out a bit deeper to another spot and we found the bigger models. Not much else other that blacks . Sandy got a huge blotched jaw fish and a small red which went back. I got a small tuskie but just under size. In all was a good day out on the water getting a feed or 2 .
Hopefully won't go that long till the next trip out .
