Why are we exporting gas and importing petrol!!!

What do you do for a living - 2013
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2013-05-28 17:11Well its been a fair while since I did one of these and there's probably a few changes since last time. It was a very popular thread assisting some people to get into different careers so will see how we go.
I'll go first. I'm now a Health Safety Security advisor for Mermaid Marine up here in Dampier and run Fishwrecked on the side.
Cheers,

Online Store
Submitted by Jason K on Tue, 2013-05-28 15:39Have been searching for a bargain stereo for my boat. I'm normally not very patient and would have bought something long ago, but after buying a boat you start to learn not to just push the "buy it now" button.
However, I could not proceed quick enough yesterday when I found a brand new Fusion MS-IP700 for $199. Paid on PayPal so am protected and the site looks legit. Should arrive by the time I get home from work next week, so will soon know if I've been ripped or found a bargain.

How to improve safety on Quobba rocks
Submitted by carnarvonite on Tue, 2013-05-28 08:23Had a meeting with a lovely lady from Recfishwest on Sunday about what was or could be needed to improve angler safety and awareness for the Quobba fishing spots.
One bit discussed was the "Silent sentinals" where there are life rings with Gps fitted to be posted at all the dangerous spots. The Gps sends a signal as soon as its removed more than 20 metres from its station, allowing tracking if someone is in the water.
Mobile phone coverage was another point along with UHF radio coverage to allow quicker notification and response. We Carnarvon Sea Rescue are in the process with DFES and especially Rio Tinto Salt, in installing a VHF repeater on the aerial at Cape Cuvier, placing a UHF repeater at the same time would enable the signal to reach Carnarvon.
The usual placement of warning signs at the best possible locations for maximum exposure with the TEE junction being the most recognised spot and with other sites suggested being the blowholes, High Rock, North wall, Whistling Rock, Garths rock track down the hill and any other popular fishing haunts.

Howdy All
Can anyone recommend a good mobile mechanic in the rockingham area. My son needs a water pump put on his 1995 daihatsu feroza, we had alook at doing it ourselves but it gets a bit to complex. Ie remove timing belt, timing belt pulleys etc i dont have the gear to do this, ie timing gun for later. if anyone has used and can recommend someone we would be most appreciative.
cheers

Wanted to borrow; gazebo, outdoor heater and old builder's planks
Submitted by mattgreen on Thu, 2013-05-23 20:56Hi Guys,
Have a bit of a gathering next weekend (1st,2nd June) and was wondering if anyone would have a few items not being used they wouldn't mind lending out in exchange for some beers, cash or a feed of fish.
Gazebo's - oz trail or similar - I've got 2 of my own but need a couple of extra's.
Outdoor gas heater - Got one already but another one or two would be great.
Old buider's planks - going to place ontop of milk crates for some seating.
Can guarantee your gear will be looked after as if it was my own.
I'm based in Scarborough but more than happy to travel to collect.
Thanks
Matt

PayPal scam
Submitted by OLD BANGA on Thu, 2013-05-23 20:00I have my Stacer Runabout for sale on Fishwrecked and Gumtree, I have just had contact from krhowes9@gmail.com wishing to purchase the boat and asking a few questions and then agreeing to a price but would only pay through PayPal and was not interested in looking at the boat before the purchas, that is when I started to think something was not right. I advised the supposed purchaser that I was only interested in a cash sale or EFT transaction, I have not heard from the buyer since. Just be cautios if selling any item and the purchaser is willing to purchase site unseen and wants to pay via PayPal.
Cheers

Road report Cvon to Gero
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2013-05-23 19:03Had to head down to Gero early yesterday [Wed] morning, heaps of cattle from about 10 km south of Carnarvon for the next 40km, lots of roos, goats and sheep all the way through to Overlander.
On the way back today noticed grass sprouting on the road verges from recent rains, the only bit of green for miles and that's what is attracting them to the road so if you are planning to travel that section at night please take extra care.

Exxy Game Fishing adventure, with pics
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Tue, 2013-05-21 22:23I will keep it short and sweet. Try to.
Headed up to Exxy for the first week of the school holidays to celebrate a mates 40th B'Day. We took up two boats that would suit the needs of the eight strong party guests. The first was a 4.5mtre polycraft and the second a brand new 7mtre Leisure Cat we named Pussy of course. Let me get it out of my system now, the cat was the best thing i have ever been on and i am totally in love with its ride and well, everything to do with it.
The goal for the week was to do some serious Game fishing and a little bottom bouncing.
Our first challenge occurred 150km out of Exxy at 11.00pm. Bang, sparks and then "what is that funny noise?" We had blown a tyre on the small boat. No problems one would think, "we will just do a quick change and off we go". Yep, spare was sitting at home leaning up against the fence after it had been taken off to have the boat serviced. Time to pitch the tent. No probs, beer was cold and we were in no hurry.
The next day we sent the other car into Exxy to get a spare, all done and we were off.
Oh, watch out for the spicky little bushes, they have many snakes residing in them. Very funny when you piss on a bush and it starts to riggle.
We cruised into Exxy, unloaded, fueled up and decided to head out into the gulf for a late tuna bash throwing a few pintails around. Result, lots of fun on the longtails.
The luck went our way for the next few days hitting Tantas for some bills. In 4 solid days we landed (in boat) and released 13 bills. We were blown away. We managed to get all eight crew onto a billy after a lot of rotation from small to big boat. The small boat did not do any gamefishing and stuck to the bottom stuff.
Now for bad luck number two. Did a prop seal mid week on the small boat. This put it out of action for a few days. Gave me time to get out to the reefs at low tide to do some occy hunting. Caught 14 to make a nice salad for dinner.
We managed to catch a lot of Wahoo which seemed to be everywhere and also came across a few dollies and yellow fin. There was of course the dreaded sharks to deal with which made bottom fishing interesting to say the least. actually, we gave up with that after two outings, sharks everywhere. I even managed to land a big shark on the trolling skirt which was interesting.
The weather was awsome for the second half of the week. Basically, we cleaned up on the bills. The sails were as one of our crew quoted "common as muck".
By weeks end, there were 8 very lucky and satisfied fisherman. We had conquered the bills, played with trout off the islands and wrestled the tuna in the Gulf.
A big thanks to Wind on Dave from Dunsborough, Steve from Exxy and the boat owner, you know who you are and it also helped that he is lucky enough to have 5 fully sponsored FinNor Santiagos set up on the pussy cat.
If you are looking for the ultimate fishing challenge, Exxy has it all. The options are endless and i would be here for ever telling you all about the types of fishing we did in a week. Get up there.
The locals as they say, are a friendly bunch.
Here are a few of the hundreds of pics. Some are from guys in the water. Mad bastards i recon.
Enjoy
Xtreme Dave

Yesterday's Seabird report (edit,link added)
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2013-05-19 08:22 Headed out yesterday on water that was a bit of a mish mash but as the day wore on it got better and better. First time my oldest (Rory) deckied for me solo and he did a good job. We fished the mid 20's for a while where he picked up a size Breaksea and unsize Baldie. We then headed into the the mid 30's for a couple of hours for nil and was starting to get a bit frustrated. So decided to head out near the bank on the way we found a cluster of cray pots which was unusual as they are usually strung out in a line, so decided to have a crack. Our lines had barely hit the bottom when it was on for young and old. First up for me was a reasonable Redthroat but Rory had hooked into something bigger and didn't realise it till I told him to set the drag harder so up comes a nice Dhuie. Rods down again Dhuie for me and Rory's into a Sambo (which he wanted to keep So Laksa soup coming up). We fished the spot for an hour and ended up with Pinkies, Dhuies, Redthroat and Baldies all released very well. Left it on the boil as they say. That was probably our last fish up here for the year as the beach will get washed away from the ramp soon. I will put up a video of our ramp set up soon so you can see what I mean.
Happy boy.
The bag.
Here's the link for the tramp vid. Rory is filming from the boat. The blue strap on the ground is the hook and cable. Winch house at the top of the ramp. So basically beach the boat and winch out of the water, back car up ramp, winch boat to base of ramp and drive trailer under boat 'voila' all done!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2idjLrRreo&feature=youtu.be

Budgies by the skin on their teeth

Fines for boats on trailers etc
Submitted by Rob H on Thu, 2013-05-16 21:23did anyone notice on the front page of the West Australian today, Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan referring specifically to
"a group of Regional Officers who spent part of the Christmas period fining boat owners for not showing the correct flags" rather than pursuing issues relating to reducing fatalities.
Very interesting that it got noticed so high up in the ranks.
I recall at least one on here getting a fine around that time for not having a flag on the outboard, as I believe it was in the Midwest that he was referring to.
Perhaps we might see some more "relevant" policing instead of the stuff we have been subjected to.
Around the same time it was headlines in the local rag-"POLICE CRACKDOWN-if you drive or ride an offroad (non road registered) vehicle ANYWHERE in the Midwest other than private property it will be impounded and you will be prosecuted."
I was thinking they must have sorted all other crime out especially the alcohol fuelled violence so often referred to.

Car mechanic in Mandurah
