A MAN with an eel lodged in his bottom has shown up at a New Zealand emergency department asking for help.
The unnamed man presented himself at the Auckland City Hospital for treatment last week, the New Zealand Herald reported.
X-rays revealed the eel "about the size of a decent sprig of asparagus," a hospital source told the newspaper.
"The incident is the talk of the place. Doctors and nurses have come across people with strange objects that have got stuck where they shouldn't before, but an eel has to be a first."
The eel was removed and the man went on his way. The hospital confirmed the story to the newspaper, but revealed no further details in order to protect the man's privacy.
It was not clear how the eel had found its way inside the man. According to the newspaper, eels are secretive, nocturnal and prefer habitats with plenty of cover.

Boat explosion in Hedland
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sat, 2012-09-22 08:51Heard a story of a boat blowing up when starting at the Hedland boat ramp. They had just launched it, one bloke was parking the trailer/ car and the skipper? cranked it over and bang, build up of petrol fumes ingnited. The joys of having a sterndrive unit pokes its head up again.
He was flown south by the RFDS and is in ICU with severe burns. Friend was on the jetty and still has ringing in the ears from the bang.

Hillarys tonight 22/9/2012
Submitted by murphster on Sat, 2012-09-22 08:10
Hello all,
Just registered last night thanks for your help Adam.
I have been in perth for about 4 years now moved down from Broome, all my fishing up there was up the river or on a boat .Since being in perth i have only started going fishing again about 4 months ago just off rock walls or beach. Its a totaly different type of fishing for me', I have not caught any decent fish yet but i could just sit out on a rock wall all night with my beer and smokes waiting for that rachet to go off and it will one day if I put the time and effort in. So far i have been to the regular spots up north here but no good ones yet. Researching fish, trying different rigs, bait and exploring new areas is just as cool as catching a fish for me .Tonight i will try that spot people say is dead, HILLARYS. I have seen them there and when i figure what i am doing the wait will worth its while.

New Apple Maps - Fremantle Harbour no longer exists !
Submitted by kaney68 on Fri, 2012-09-21 21:24Just browsing the new Apple Maps...
Didn't realise Fremantle Harbour no longer exists !
According to the new Apple maps, the Swan now terminates between the rail bridge and the Queen Victoria traffic bridge !
That's sure to piss a few people off who like to launch in the river and head out of the harbour ;-)

I Would Never...
Submitted by james14 on Sun, 2012-09-16 20:04Gday All,
Just wanting to see some interesting stories about what people have done that they would never do again.
Fishing related or not im sure there are some stories out there.
I personally would NEVER use (PM me for the name) again.
I recently started the process of renovating my bathroom/laundry and everything ran smoothly except for the tiling.
I am a Carpenter by trade (shopfitting) and have gained a pretty keen eye for detail.
I had left for work on the morning the tiles were getting layed and came back in the afternoon to see what would have to be one of the worst tiling jobs I have ever seen.
The grouting was pathetic, and the mitre cuts were all over the place. I didnt kick up a fuss but asked the tilers to come back and fix the job, at which they had no problem in doing (they probably new it was a shit job.)
The shower screen was yet to be installed so I was very very nervous at finding out wether or not the water would run the right way. I had installed a frameless showere that has a gap under the door. I was reasured by the tilers that no water would exit the shower. A week later when the screen was installed, the first thing i did was turn on the shower about 30%. My worst nightmare had began. The water flowed straight out of the door and pooled NEXT to the bathroom waste. with out actually going down. At that point I was pretty pissed off.
It took 1 week to contact the tiler and 1 week of negotiation before they again came out to look at the job they had farked up. They have partially fixed the fall in the tiles but I have told them where to go and am going to sort it out myself.
To cut a long story short, I personally would NEVER USE (PM me again) again.
Regards james

I'm looking at purchasing some artificial lawn tommorow. I need approximately 60sqm of lawn. Can anyone recommend a NOR supplier? I've previously bought from Benara Nursery which seemed pretty good though I don't think they have the quantity I'm after.

Local Style
Submitted by soupster51 on Sun, 2012-09-16 09:11I spent yesterday out on the water with a couple of local friends here on Pohnpei. We trolled the barrier reef for wahoo and only left when we saw a school close by. No tuna or marling unfortunately but we got a couple of nice hoos. Best went 16kgs. It was an awesome day, in a 19 foot open boat with PVC rod holders for rods and out-riggers. The combined value of our rods and reels came in at more than he paid for the boat. No EPIRB, No lifejackets, and No phone or radio reception once you get around the back half of the island. Island style.

Private Rottnest Charters
Submitted by Mulie on Sun, 2012-09-16 08:18G'Day,
A mate of mine is getting married on Rotto in April and a group of us want to hire a boat and driver to drop us off around lunch time and pick us up around midnight, like a water taxi. Does any one know of a company or charter vessel that does this ex Hillarys. We all have todlers and infants or work commitments the next day, so staying on the island is not an option. Will be a group of around six to ten.

Dingi Retrieval on the beach - Ideas anyone??
Submitted by timboon on Sun, 2012-09-16 05:30FW crew,
I have a 4.2 Quinni Dory with a 25 hp yami 4 stroke on the back... That plus fuel and a big battery is often too big to drag up a beach even when there are extra people around...
Usually its me and the missus and its alomost impossible to get up unless you either skull drag with a snatch strap or unhook the trailer then wind the boat onto it then skull drag that up the beach...
By the way I`m talking beaches that are remote with not many people around so trying to avoid dropping the tyres and reversing to the water line and risking getting bogged or worse...
I`ve used rollers under the hull etc etc but now i want to come up with a better idea, something you can use under the hull to be able to skull dragged with the Ute without taking half a millimetre of ally of each time... She ten years old now and its been done too many times already so trying to think of an idea that will save it and prolonge having to buy anothery...
I want to be able to get it above the high tide mark but avoid having to put it onto the trailer each time...
Rack your brains fellas and see what brilliance you can come up with...

Xtreme thanks from Xtreme Coolers
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Sat, 2012-09-15 11:52Hi all.
Just a quick thanks to all of the FW members who have recently purchased a quality porduct from us. The cryovac machines have been very popular and have been purchased by members in Perth, up North and even over East. The vac machine is a very easy item to post.
With the sun coming up the coolers are starting to move again. You can visit Oceanside Tackle and Marine in O'Connor, Dunsborough outdoor Sportz, Esperance Home Hardware and now Galvins in Kununurra to get one of our coolers for the coming summer. Stock levels are good for most items and don't forget the FW member 10% discount on all cooler prices.
Give Dave a ring on 0403978583 or send a PM for any enquiries regarding the cooler range or the cryovac machines.
At the moment i am doing some really good deals on the larger coolers.
The 260litre cooler marble is $380.00 save $100.00 with a free 20litre beer cooler
The 210litre cooler marble is $300.00 save $80.00 with a free 20litre beer cooler
Looking forward to a great summer.
Regards
Dave

Custom Camping Shelter - Apholstery advice needed!!
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2012-09-14 12:54FW Crew how are we all??
Needing some Apholstery advice for my newest camp shelter idea...Its basically an ally frame that knocks together, I now need to get a Poly ( was thinking canvas but better to go with pretty good quality poly for a couple of reasons i think ) tarp thing made for the rear wall and the roof... Its 4m x 4 m x 2m so the tarp has to be 4 x 6m to cover the rear wall and the 4 m2 roof area...
Does anyone know any good people they could recommend to supply and make this for me preferably around osborne pk or somewhere not too far from there??
Cheers
Timboon
