Aluminium fuel tank advice please
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2021-08-03 11:38Gday all i had a 180lt fuel tank fabricated for a boat I refurbished at beginning of the year, Ive never had a boat with an ali tank cause all the other smaller boats ive had used portable plastic fuel tanks. I keep the boat stored on a property out in the open on a gravelled area and ive just realised that I forgot to fully fill the tank before storing it for winter. Its got about 20lt in it and been sitting there since mid May. First question - should I have filled it full before storage?, secong question - when I go to fill it now for use am I supposed to put some sort of addiditive in to disperse any moisture build up that may have occured? if so whats best to use? cheers for any advice

The Mind of a fisherman
Submitted by Gerhard Jacobs on Sun, 2021-08-01 07:46Recently I have been tasked to take multiple water samples from boreholes in regional WA. This included lowering and pulling a bailer about 100 times a day in multiple bores which I did by hand and was a bloody nightmare on my shoulders.
Then to sample from a specific depth meant you had to measure out the wirerope for each bore before starting the process all over again. After a bit of thought and a bit of budget to come up with an alternative I went shopping and after a trip to bunnings and the fishing shop I came up with this combination.
It works a treat and I've been using it for a couple of months. Now I can stand in the middle of the desert and atleast dream about pulling up something from the depth. Keeps me going till I can get back on the water.
PS, I had to run an E-Stop on the cable for obvious safety reasons

Fishing with locals
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2021-07-31 20:06Got down for a few hours today despite the strong winds. Started getting a few whiting when a couple of locals turned up and wanted in on the action.
Got a feed in the end but no real action on the big rod.

Lowrance NMEA 2000 extension cable
Submitted by Anytime Brad on Fri, 2021-07-23 13:54Hi all just a quick note to see if anyone has an extension cable for the NMEA port on lowrance sounder old combo. On my old combo it connects to my external gps aerial. Both ends are the same with a small black plug with female connections which plugs into the red network plug in the photo (if I have uploaded it correctly)
My old cable has deteriorated and has an intermittent short in it somewhere.
Cheers Brad

Rd 18
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2021-07-15 08:45Well game of the round is Adelaide and WC.....
Tough one to pick, if the Eagles can kick more than 3 goals they are a chance of a win but on recent form you wouldn't be including them in a multi....
This morning the Hawks were paying $9 against the Dees..... The Dees being Melbourne, Melbourne being the shittest club in the history of shitness....
Does anyone else get the feeling that the wheel nuts will start to loosen and the closer Melbourne get to the big dance the more chance they'll have of smacking into a Karri tree at 110km/h when all 4 wheels go flying into the scrub....
Dogs/Cats GF.....
The roughie for me this week is Nth to roll the Bombers who might get knocked back a peg but don't listen to me my footy tipping has been ratshit this year.....
Carn the Hawks......
Oh and Frost.... Gaff wont free up anywhere near enough Cap space for your club to do anything in the next few years, like what does that achieve having 800k in the pool but losing a player like him....
I disagree with your comments that he is not one of your better ball users, I'm not talkin in the last month I'm taking a snap shot of his career....
Shame you can't have another half a dozen Liam Ryans......
Dont suppose anyone would have two spare tix for the WC Stk game next week assuming it goes ahead, I wouldn't mind taking my 6 year old little sports nut son....

The Staircase
Submitted by SeperateKnob on Wed, 2021-07-14 19:28For people who have seen the series The Staircase on Netflix I'm interested to hear peoples opinions on if they think if he is guilty or not? I was thinking guilty but if that's the case how is there not blood at the top of the stairs where she would have been hit on the head and also not really a guaranteed why to murder someone.

What other than plywood?
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2021-07-13 13:53I need to cut out and replace a piece of playwood in the bow of the boat and was recently told of a product other than marine ply that people are using for decks? It was a plastic/timber product but cant remember what it was called?
Does anyone have an idea on what it could be?
Comes in sheets like ply

Trailcraft 6800 Sportscab or Oceanic 6.8 Hard Top
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2021-07-13 11:25Howdy Folks
Does anyone within this group own either of these boats?
Caravan has sold and we have narrowed down the plans to either of those two though wish to have first hand owners feedback.
Yes, i know the Trailcraft have a low deadrise and are light boats though I have had a tinny and the 6m pacemaker centre console is light and needs to be treated like a tinny ie dont go out if the weather is shit as we will get wet and I will be the first to spew.
Ultimately, we are looking at something to camp on/in and do some island hopping.

Smoked Ribs
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2021-07-11 11:41Finally came across some decent meaty ribs and with no junior footy decided to dedicate my Sunday to some low and slow smoking.
Pulled the membrane off and applied a mild chilli texas rub and chucked them into the Hark with some apple branch offcuts and will keep feeding it with mesquite wood chips for 3 hours until the next step.
The Hark has been modified so that the Auber PID controller keeps the temp at a rock solid 225F with tbe probe at meat level. I've also got the Maverick probe in there to keep an eye on the temp.

Knife Maker Perth
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2021-07-02 11:22I have a boning knife gifted to me from my 89y old Pop and the story goes that Pop found this in a bonfire up at Yardi and being of strong Scottish decent he kept it and fashioned a new handle out of ali tube and recently gave it to me along with a few other items.
I'd love to get it set into a new handle and polished up for sentimental reasons and show him the finished product.
Does anyone know of a good local knife maker that could help out?
Cheers JF

Home Solar
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2021-06-30 15:35With the Mrs working from home 1/2 the week I am finally going to get some solar panels for the roof and lucky enough to be a higher elevation than my northern neighbour with no trees or shading.
Looking at a 6.6kw system and narrowed it down to either Infinite Energy based on reviews here or Termico who Dad has used twice. The prices below are before I've started getting them to sharpen the pencil:

First couple for the season
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2021-06-19 18:30Started with the wind blowing around the 15 knots so couldn't fish my usual spots but ended up with a couple of small Queenie on popper as well as hooking up to a 3 foot shark on popper which spat the hooks right on the shore line.
Moved location once the wind dropped and ended with a couple of salmon for the season to end the day. No whiting around but still got a feed and chill out time

Drone - Need pointing in right direction
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2021-06-18 08:07Gday Fellas,
Looking at going halvies with a mate in a drone.
Not doing anything hardcore just what I guess I'd call the usual drone action.
The usual camp pics, exploring a bit when away, maybe looking for pigs, goats when hunting so a bit of range would be handy but yeah not looking for the top shelf models as I'd imagine like most owners it wont get used very much...
So if there are any experts on here that can recommend a good model in the mid price range that would be good.
Cheers...
