Charging Dual batteries - CTEK
Submitted by selthy on Sat, 2021-04-24 17:42After a flat battery in the car leaving me and another fishwrecked member looking at a car and trailer 2 meteres apart at 5:30 in the morning, I'm keen to ensure my boat batteries are well looked after.
Hoping someone with a CTEK charging port & dual batteries on the boat can answer these questions:
- Which charger do you use?
- Can the CTEK M100, 200 or 300 charge both batteries at the same time, or do you need to select a battery to charge through the isolator switch.
- Do you need to turn on power to the boat (by selectinbg at least 1 battery on the iusolator swicth) to allow charging through the CTEK port?
- Assuming the boats power needs to be left on whilst charghing, has anyone had any mishaps where the charger has been disconnected, leaving the batteries to slowly drain down?

Geraldton Fuel Situation
Submitted by dowders on Mon, 2021-04-19 13:25Hey guys was wanting to know if anyone is up in Gero or passed through recently. Thinking of heading to the Abrolhos this long weekend and would like to know if fuel is readily available. Have seen on the news just a few days ago massive queues to fill up. Usually fill the jerry cans in Perth but will need to fill the car and top up the boat in Geraldton.
Can fill the boat in Perth and tow the extra weight but would like to get some Diesel for the car somewhere up that way, possibly Dongara?
Cheers

Squidding coral bay
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2021-04-18 14:23With our trip less than a month away and counting the days. We have a 4 year old coming up with us this time and thaught squid would be ideal to get her into something. Never tried up there before for them so thaught it's about time and we have a reason to do it . I know you need to be inside the reef and our sins the sanctuary zone which I believe is near the 5 fingers .
Could anyone give me a few tips on what sort of area we need to be in relation to the south passage .
Cheers in advance

Ali boats with sealed deck
Submitted by SeperateKnob on Thu, 2021-04-15 10:44Is it a general rule most people rinse out under deck cavity bilge area after boating? For example put the hose into the hung hole to rinse out any salt water or salt build up. To prevent corrosion? As I've only ever owned a small dinghy in ali cheers

Fingers crossed Denham is still able to keep on top of their fish frame bins being holiday peak time and all.

I'm going to bang a new battery in my dingi and before I get to the battery shop and get some bloke talking shop talk I thought I'd ask peoples opinions as i'm out of the loop now.
Its only a 25yam 4st so doesn't need much to crank it.
I was wondering if its worth spending the cash for a Lithium etc.... I'll let you fellas throw a few ideas at me....

Dirk Hartog ( Urchin Point )
Submitted by Happy Hooker on Thu, 2021-04-08 07:33HI All
Just seeing if anyone has been out to the shack at Urchin Pt recently.
Am arriving 7th May leaving 17th , been plenty of times before so know the go on what we need (last trip 2019) but apparently there has been a big clean up of the facility . Think one of the side shade cloths is now gone and tables may be also be gone ( going by what Ive seen on a couple of recent pics on the net).
Wondering if the big table that was in the shack is still there together with the smaller ones that were sitting under the front area and the shelves inside along back wall still there . If they arent need to factor in taking tables with us.
Cheers
abrolhos trip
Submitted by Wayne77 on Wed, 2021-04-07 07:33Well was meant to be heading to the abrolhos this coming weekend now mother nature screwed that one with a cyclone thanks .
My question to those that know the area is how quickly do things tend to return to normal there after a cyclone ie swell and water clarity?

Trailer winch dilemma
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2021-04-04 17:43Sandy took the family out on the water today and on return the boat onto the trailer the cable snapped.
Dilemma is which way do I go . Stick with the wire cable or go with the strap type or the nylon rope type.
Which way should I go , pros and cons of each would be appreciated and which one do you have

Who's heading north
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2021-04-04 17:34So who's heading north this year for a fishing trip, when and where?
I've literally spent the last two days doing trailer bearings ,maintenance and making up a heap of rigs.
Ganraloo beckons mid May and like to be ahead of the game in preparedness.
Even though the sharks are in my mind it won't ever stop me heading up there as there are lots of options fishing wise, and on windy day enjoy a drive down to Tombstones to watch the ballsy surfers on the huge reef break there.
Bring it on!!

Round 3
Submitted by timboon on Sat, 2021-04-03 19:00Well a few upsets already and looks like could be another one with the bottom 8 Eagles getting a jump on the top 4 Port....
Sydney look like theyll lock in a finals berth early in the season with wins early and a favourable draw the next few weeks...
North need to be kicked out of the country. They'd be ideal for the 1st Kiwi NZFL team....
Big Texan Walker is looking like he's a new man and showing the big forwards might be back...
Freo Carlton hard to pick...
Giants Melb are battling it out for the who cares cup ( same as the game above really - except Dale )
Hawks easily over the Cats in a performance that will again show the league who is the powerhouse of the competition...

Submitted by Faulkner Family on Fri, 2021-04-02 16:12Went out to spoil bank for a bit of fishing . Not much was happening until the turn of the tide . Got 2 nice sharks and they certainly know how to jump. During the fight they both kept about 6 foot out of the water .
Ended up with a reasonable Queenie which put on a good show as well

New boat ramp access at Hillarys marina
Submitted by Spicey on Thu, 2021-04-01 10:51Looks like the Dept of Transport are going to make some changes to the way you queue up at Hillarys. It should alleviate those blockages on West Coast drive on the busy days but a few tight corners to get around for some of the bigger rigs.

Small Machining job
Submitted by Tim on Tue, 2021-03-30 16:54Hi All looking for someone who can do a small machining job for me.
My transom door has a slide bolt that goes into a hole drilled in the fibreglass glass next to it with a bush just pushed into it.
Would like to get a stainless bolt drilled out to accept the slide bolt and have the head machined down to say 1or2mm. I can put a nut on the other side which will then be a more permanent solution.
Slide bolt looks to be just under 10mm dia but can confirm when I get a chance.
Thanks

Servicing costs for this bad boy!
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Mon, 2021-03-29 09:37Was parked up at Rockybay on saturday and this CC pulled up, prob around 36-38 foot - pretty interesting set up the motors appear to be set at an angle, (that may just be to access the stern ladder) - servicing costs would be frightening!

Genuine yamaha parts vs aftermarket parts
Submitted by Dreamtime on Sat, 2021-03-27 18:44Hey guys.. had an alarm go off yesterday on the way out... ended up being "low battery voltage" alarm so I've replaced battery with a spanka... still shit... tested regulator rectifier by swapping it out with a spare... still shit... pulled off charging leads and being a 3 phase alternator/stator checked the outputs of the 3 circuits and it seems one of the circuits has shit itself... so I'm now looking for a replacement stator... SO I found an aftermarket one on ebay for around $100 but further digging revealed that for a genuine yamaha stator they want $962.67!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wtf!!!
So I guess what I'm really wondering now has anyone;
Had experience with fixing yammys with aftermarket parts and what was the outcome?
Got any idea how/why they charge so much and is it worth taking a fist 10 times the size right up the clacca?
It just seems to me like a no brainer in this situation as if this part fails it won't cause anything else to fail(or will it?)... but I really don't bloody know so here I am.
Cheers in advance for any help at all! Yew
