Rotto swim Leuwin ramp
Submitted by Matty15 on Thu, 2020-01-30 22:23For those who have done the swim previously what time does the Leuwin boat ramp get to capacity and are cars permitted to stay overnight? Last year we launched from Matilda Bay and it's a fair hike up the river so looking for a closer option, can leave the boat in a pen at Coogee but still have the issue of leaving the car somewhere, our swimmer starts at 650. Cheers

Tackle
Submitted by collin g wood on Sat, 2020-01-18 15:03Hi, have just sold my boat and bought a fishpro JetSki, was just going through all my tackle and throwing out all the rusty (most of it) shit, so open ended question, what sort of tackle should I be minimising to ( lack of storage) to target, bread n butter species, occasional bottom bouncing, I would like to get into jigging, soft plastics etc etc.
My most attacked lure from a gnarraloo trip, retired.

Fitting a deck wash - some advice please
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2020-01-14 09:34Hi all, I want to fit a TMC deck wash kit to the boat. Box doesnt have instructions so I googled up how to do it. They all install the water pickup with a thru-hull fitting but I dont want to go through the transom if I dont have to. Pump will be bolted to the floor next to the engine well. Is there any reason why I cant just go through the engine well with the water pick up hose ? then over the splash wall and plumb it down the side of the motor wth some elbow joiners. Also I figure if i do that i wont have to add a water on/off lever in the water pickup hose between the pump intake and where the water picks up thanks for any advice if youve fitted one of these before

PE 4-5 Jig rod advice...?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sun, 2020-01-12 09:05Hey all
Am struggling to find a spin jig rod in the weight range that Im after so just putting it out there for recommendations if anyone has any ideas
What Im after
Around 6- 6’2 foot but open to something slightly shorter (but think the usual 5’3 standard for the heaver jig rods means it pretty much cancels out the option of being able to use it with plastics as well, which is ideally what Im after)
- PE4-5
- Will work jigs from 80-200gms (most of the PE4+ that I can see are 200gm+ rated)
- Around the $300-400 range
I use a Demon blood CJ64 for PE3 and like it as although its not a dedicated jigging rod, it can also be used well enough for plastics and light bait fishing. Something similar to that but in PE4-5 would be ideal. Frustrating that Daiwa do a PE6-8 don’t do a 4-5 version of this rod
Know I might be struggling to find something in that PE that is a bit longer and workable with lighter jigs, hence this post. Rods Ive looked at that are close to what Im after but not quite right are:
- NS Black Hole Explorer S575 (bit short and 150gm+ jig rated)
- Ocean Legacy ADDG-S553M Seriola Battlefield (have the OH version and very stiff, suited to really heavy jigs)
- JM Ocean Fire 52S- (short and heavier jigs rated)
- NITRO Gulfstream- this one looks about as close as I have found but the annoying way Innovator rate their rods (3-5kg apparently but its obviously more than that- talks about targeting amberjacks and recommended for 8kg drag…) its hard to tell
If anyone has any recommendations, or even better, something that fits the bill that they want to get rid of, any help would be great
Cheers!

Whats the best octane rated fuel for two stroke outboards.
Submitted by beeroclock on Wed, 2020-01-08 14:15Hi all, Ive got a 2003 125hp Merc (oil-injected 2-stroke) on the boat. The mechanic that fitted it said its best to run 95 octane unleaded. Motor runs fine on that and not really very smokey. Is it even better to run 98 octane through it permanently or could that cause any internal damage, overheating etc cheers dave

Day out on the water
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2020-01-05 17:57Hit the water just before 7 to have a leisurely cruise out to one of our spots 14 nm out with the conditions reasonable and to get even better as the day went on. There were a few birds working the water but as you get close the tuna would just dissapear but ended with a couple. Fish were few and far between but managed to get a few. 7 kg dhuie , 2.2 kg Bauldie a size blackass and a few others. All up it was a good day .

Unbelievable
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2020-01-05 17:49Here we were 14nm out from mandurah enjoying the day then it wasn't bad enough these guys came in on our drift but they also pulled up about 20 mtrs behind us and dropped their lines.
I understand that others may have the same spots marked on their sounder but to do this just pissed me off. Where is the courtesy with other boats out there

Deep cycle battery
Submitted by tiles on Sat, 2020-01-04 12:19Hi i havent been able to post for a while its time for new batteries for the boat was wondering if its worth using a deep cycle battery as the house battery for sounder, stereo, 2 way, lights at night or just using a standed starting battery. When your up and running do you put your isolation switch on 1+2 or do you switch to house battery thanks for your coments

Whats the deal, Possession limit
Submitted by Alpha on Wed, 2020-01-01 18:32If i plan a fishing trip over two days with 2 people on board, leaving on a Saturday, fish our way over to Rottnest, bag out with 2 dhuies and 2 other demersal, stay overnight at Rottnest (arrive well before midnight and stay more than 5 hours).
Im feeling confident. If I bag out again on the second day with 2 more Dhuies and 2 more demersal, so now i have 2 days worth of catch. What are the rules regarding this??
My understanding is I can have 2 days possession limit, but im confussed as to if the boat limit of 2 Dhuies applies irrespestive of the fact weve been fishing for 2 days? I know filleting at sea rules would apply. The fisheries website is confusing on this matter.

Anyone know much about business law?
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2019-12-30 07:32
As some of you may remember, in the middle of last year i spent about 6 months renovating my boat which involved cutting out the deck, removing foam and starting from the fiberglass hull. All of the timber came from a company which we will call ISUPPLYyouwithtimber near the end of High Road and Leach Highway.
After 6 or so months after relaunch, i was doing something in the bow hatch and noticed a bit of flex in the timber and upon close inspection, noticed a bit of delamination. Odd. Upon even closer inspection, i noticed a lot more delamination was starting. This, on Marine plywood that had a liberal dip in Polyester resin before installation.
Now we are at 12 months after install and I have had to replace the deck hatch which has completely disintergrated (remembering it is Marine Plywood) and are pricing up replacement sheets to do the whole f*cking job again...Well not the whole job, just cut the deck off and put a new one in as the small bits i did in the structure were done with Marine Ply that cost twice as much from Bunnings. I guess I got what I paid for.
The purpose of this story is that I wrote a nasty letter of demand to the business for a refund of the costs of the product along with the cost of fiberglass and resin. When i called them to get an email address, i was informed that the business was sold in November this year.
Does anyone know where i stand? The timber that i got supplied with is not marine plywood (the offcuts i stored behind the shed have warped and have peeled beyond use) and the person i spoke to to do the transactions in 2018 is now the business owner.
The cost is not huge though i am more than a tad shitty at the prospect of a weeks worth of work + timber + glass + resin + paint + glue + carpet...

Boat sunk off Burns Beach
Submitted by sea-kem on Fri, 2019-12-27 17:42It fucken still amazes me how clowns still decide to go out in these shit conditions, two blokes winched to safety after their boat went down. I watched 4 blokes head out this morning in a small runabout from Seabird, absolutely shiteful seas and I can tell it gets worse the farther you get out, what the fuck for? A feed of Herring. They weren't pot checking as they had rods on board.

Great day out
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2019-12-25 19:02What more could you ask for but to spend the day on the water with family. Sandy, brenden myself and for the first time in years my mum. Day turned out great with brenden getting a 7kg dhuie a nice Bauldie and a tuna. Sandy managed to get a tuna . Mum landed a wrasse and a sweep both went back and lost a nice size whisker boatside biting through the line. All I got was a new pb dhuie went 104 cm and if the scales are correct 18kg on the mark smashing my previous by 6kg. Came in early to have lunch and chill out while on the water.
All up the day was very enjoyable. Fun had by all

Helping fishos
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2019-12-18 19:22Got a call from the missus on Saturday arvo from her work, there were 2 blokes in from Quobba where they had spent the last week fishing Cave rock area.
They had run out of lures and being Sat arvo all the tackle shops were shut and non of the servos had any. Told her to send them around and I had a dig in the tackle box to grab what I had, 4-5 divers, few chrome slices [one new ] and a few older rusted ones. Told them to take them and if they get a tuna to drop it in on their way back through. Puts a bit of space in the box now and will not miss them as only put a lure in the water if someone wants a mackie [like catching them but not eating them] or see a school of tuna.
Still waiting on their report back but if they don't I hope they got something to keep for themselves
