gnaraloo boating advice with map!
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Thu, 2017-07-27 09:38Hi Paul
map attached of the bay - I have circled a track, this track runs up a slight hill/incline - we have used this in the past as a guide to see if we are too far south when coming in. When coming in from the south you want to be at least lined up with the track before coming in (depending on swell) prefably you want to be north of the track. It quite faint on the map but relatively easy to see from the water - the scrub is very low so it does stand out.
We have come in on a complete glass off - that area south of my scrappy red arrow is very interesting and can result in some pretty big waves popping up when there is swell around.
We have always stayed at 3 mile and launched from the bay and left my boat in the carpark on trailer - never had any problems but also don't leave much in the boat
enjoy

Gnaraloo boating advice
Submitted by Paul_86 on Wed, 2017-07-26 19:50G'day everyone,
I'm heading up to gnaraloo in a few weeks time and taking the boat with me for the 1st time. I'm just after some advice on what's the maximum size swell that is safe to come in and out of the bay? And if anyone has any coordinates for a safe track in and out of the bay, or any pointers on which way to get out of the bay then that would be awesome.
cheers Paul

End of photobucket
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2017-07-25 11:24So I receive an email from photobucket today saying they had disabled the feature that lets me post to a 3rd party site like FW'd. They now want me to upgrade to a 500plus plan for $399 per year lol well fark that. I'll just delete all my pics and shut down the account like countless others will I guess. If it was a nominal fee of $20 I'd consider it but I'm sure they're making millions from al the advertising click bait.

dead set slump
Submitted by Deleted on Fri, 2017-07-21 18:43gee lads im in a fair old stink of a slump in regards to taking my boat out or posting on this forum.
have only hit the water once since returning from exy and would have been a while prior to that as well.
have had a few beach fishing sessions but more beers than casts hahahhaha
i havent even been following the weather or prepping the boat and gear for a day out, not sure my boat has hit water for 8 months +
seems like a mini premiership hangover after the fun i had at exy.
gotta find my mojo and get my boat back on the water either solo or find a new decky. gotta find that excitement
sat morning aus kick isnt helping matters but im okay with that

Round 18 - Moore vs Darling
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2017-07-20 15:49Seems the Pies are getting a bit cocky and told the AFL that they would like to play us at ES in rounds 18. With Pendles out it would normally be a very tough task without the only player capable of hitting a target but lucky for the Pies, West Coast can't play in Melbourne so it'lll be a walk in the park.
Wellingham won't be there to provide a step ladder for the superstar Moore this time around so Fasolo is going to have to carry the side (again) and try and kick about 18 goals. Grundy should have a field day against a side with no rucks which will be great for my Dreamteam but with no Pendles too much is going to fall to Patch Adams and the guy that looks like he should be the lead singer of a Nu Metal band, Treloar, in the middle.
West Coast by 23 and Bucks to come out and back Eddie and Eddie to come out and back Bucks.
Hawks v Freo should be entertaining... on here.

Post Storm Fish
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2017-07-17 16:51While sitting there in the pouring rain
For those who understand can feel the pain
Your hands and fingers are freezing and cold
Finding it hard with the rod and reel to hold
Waiting patiently for the line to start screaming
You find yourself in a daze and dreaming
You watch the end of your rod go tap tap tap.
And listen to your reel go clack clack clack
Your rod doubles over again and again
The line peels off under the strain
After fifteen minuits of time has past
Youve got that fish to the beach at last
You walk to the edgeto see your snapper
You find a ray and just yell at the top of your voice OH CRAP

Alternative Cray Pot winch
Submitted by CCC on Sun, 2017-07-16 18:54Hi guys
looking to set up a winch and tipper for this coming cray season. Want to use a tipper as I like the idea of the working height when baiting etc. As for the Capstain winch well that's were I'm looking for something different.
Anyone have anything different? Maybe a capstan with an attachment similar to a professional Hyd winch.
Cheers

Taste of WA Video
Submitted by clayd on Sat, 2017-07-15 23:42With Saturday's crappy weather, I decided it was time to put together some video footage taken in January this year with my kids in Jurien Bay. Even though there's no fishing, I think it will be something most of us will be able to relate to being ocean loving people. For the record though, we did do one drift for 2 fish and then a snag and snap-off. With a feed quickloy on board and the weather so great, decided there were better things to do.
Anyhow, i hope you enjoy youtu.be/qkiFsRiZDhM
Really hoping that my kids will be able to share this with their kids in the future. Let me know what you think.

Water in Fuel tank
Submitted by Swompa on Fri, 2017-07-14 13:45So, last weekend, we had been fishing for a few hours, done a few miles and we stopped to top up the fuel tank. I only carry a 22l tank and Gerry cans if going further, as largely, we don't use more than half a tank at a time.
When topping up the tank, I noticed some crap in the bottom of the tank, almost like 'heavy' dust in the bottom of the tank sloshing back and forth. I topped the tank up headed in and agreed to take it out and clean it when we got home. Kept going without a problem and the old boy took the tank home to empty and clean it.
When he emptied it he said there was lots of water in it, and the 'dust' was rust in it. Unaware to me, the vent cap had a large crack in it allowing rain water to run down the float into the tank. God knows for how long but the motor has not missed a beat.
The motor ran fine though I am concerned that she may have inhaled a bit of water. It was running normally, not surging, not spluttering or anything along those lines. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I don't have a large external filter I can screw the cap off but in the motor housing, there is a small inline filter that I hope may have saved me.
What should I do? It will be a tomorrow job.

Tig welder wanted.
Submitted by iana on Thu, 2017-07-13 12:21Hi Guys,
I'm after a person to do some tig welding, preferably in the Cockburn, Bibra Lake, Success area. I want to have a small stainless steel exhaust pipe welded, so it will be 3 - 4 but welds joining 25mm tube. I shall have the tube cut and prepared.
Is there anyone out there that can do it.
The welds do not have to have a pro finish, its only an exhaust pipe, and I have rods and electrodes that the person who does the job can also have, they are of no use to me now. I brought them a while ago when I had a TIG welder to use.

I know the full airport parking is pretty pricy but are there small businesses nearby doing it as well, harder to find online?

Putty spray gun needed
Submitted by gruntre69 on Mon, 2017-07-10 09:14Willing to pay carton tax.
I've recently rebuilt the bowsprit on my boat and due to the lack of a spray gun able to spray gelcoat unthinned, I opted to brush it. The problem is that the results are very uneven and by the time it is sanded back to a factory look the gel is too thin. I have it in usable form again but I have just enough colour matched gel left to have a go at spraying it to build the thickness and hopefully result in a finish that only requires a light sand and buff and leaves me with a satisfactory gel layer thickness.
I can't find a cheap gun to purchase and don't want to spend a lot on a tool that hopefully I won't use much again.
So if anybody has a spraygun (putty gun) with a 3 to 3.5mm tip that they'd be willing to loan me, it would be greatly appreciated and I will have much acetone on hand to ensure is is cleaned as returned in the same condition.

Trailor brakes
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2017-07-08 00:39Hope someone can help me out.
when it comes to trailor brakes what is the minimum requirements to get a trailor licenced that is rated for 2000kg
E.G. Drum on both axles , Disc on single or electronic.
Also what are peoples thoughts on using led lights on the boat trailors, are they suitable or just go with the standard ones.

Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2017-07-07 20:01Every April school holidays we try to get away with the kids, normally we head upto Kalbarri but this time we've decided to head a little (a lot) further north to Exmouth... we've decided to keep the boat so that will definitely be in tow!!! Can't wait to explore the inner gulf and maybe outside the reef on the western side!
