Isuzu FSS 550 now FSS110! Anyone used them
Submitted by Bryce Day on Tue, 2016-08-02 19:31Has anyone/is anyone using the Isuzu FSS 550 now 110 for towing 3.5 + tonne boats. Just wondering how it performs. I want to know if it's going to drop back to 70km/h going up hills or anything crazy like that! Spoken to a few dealers and they say they are good trucks and a lot of people use them for towing larger boats! But can't trust all dealers!

Funny Sayings Ideas
Submitted by davmor on Mon, 2016-08-01 12:36My club has been asked to run a beer tent later this year. It will be a fundraiser for ourselves and we want sell some stubby holders.
Thinking of putting a comical saying on them. The 'stolen from" has been done to death.
Have you seen any good ones or have a suggestion.
Cheers in advance

Fishing charters out of Brisbane qld?
Submitted by scano on Sun, 2016-07-31 07:40G'day everyone
i have a work trip to the east coast lined up in the near future (staying in Brisbane) and I was wondering whether anyone here had any recommendations on east coast charters? Not really too phased as to what they target for the table, because I am only there for 1 weekend anyway, plus I am fortunate enough to get my fair share of fillets here in Perth.
So from what I can see and read on Google, most Barra style charters are about a 4 hour drive north of Brisbane. There are some saltwater charters out from moreton bay which look OK also. I am keen to know if any members on here have done any 1 day charters on that side of the continent and any recommendations would be very much appreciated.
Not looking for any extended long stay charters, more so a 1 full day charter I can do on either that Saturday or Sunday whilst I am there.
cheers

Sounder problems
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sat, 2016-07-30 18:09Up in Coral Bay at the moment and my sounder has started playing up. It's a Furuno 587 running through 2 x 1kw Airmar transducers. Relatively new with little use.
Was working fine and then the bottom trace just started to get thinner and thinner until it disappeared ! The bottom lock display just got lower and lower on the screen until it was gone. I was running on the 200 so I switched over to the 50 only to have the same problem, no bottom trace. Checked all connections, all dry and tight. Then a couple of hours later it started to work on 50 but kept on drifting in and out. The 200 works but only in water less than 5 meters. 50 works in 200 meters but keeps losing the bottom trace.
I don't know if I have an issue with the transducers, the leads or the head unit. Anyone else experienced anything like this ? I am going to ask around to see if anyone up here has a 585/587 who is willing to help so I can swap over the head units to see if I still have the problem.
I will post up some pics of the screen. It's weird, the temperature graph even starts to fall away. Any advice or help would be appreciated as I am running off the 600w Lowrance sounder in my HDS8 as a backup.
Note how erratics the temperature line is.

Any Turbo Tent owners??
Submitted by Ben01 on Sat, 2016-07-30 13:29Hi guys,
Been looking at a new tent for a while and tossing up between the Black Wolf Turbo 300 plus and the Turbo 240 plus for a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids under 10).
Just wondering if any of you fellas own one and what your thoughts are and if they are worth the money?? I've seen plenty of the standard sized ones setup in stores and they look of awesome quality.
My only issue is the size - I honestly can't decide whether to go bigger or smaller. At the moment I'm leaning toward the larger model as I can currently get it on special which makes it about $50 cheaper than the smaller model.
Then of course there's the weight of these things and trying to get them on roof racks .... where there's a will there's surely a way :)
Thanks for any advice guys.

Boat trailer slotted rotors? Heat dissipation?
Submitted by scano on Thu, 2016-07-28 22:08Hi everyone,
just wanted to get people's thoughts and suggestions in preventing excessive heat build up of disc brake rotors?
has anyone gone go the trouble of fitting cross drilled or slotted rotors to their boat trailer? In a bid to reduce heat build up and rotors warping ect.
the reason I ask is another fellow forum member whom I fish with very often (I am sure you can all work it out) has had issues of brake pad material coming away when the hot pads hit the cold / salt water. Therefore this leaves the pad material nearly non existent and metal on metal with the brake disc rotors.
if the pads and rotors were far cooler prior to reversing the trailer into the salt water, it may prevent such occurrences? Also by fitting slotted rotors, will it help to prevent brake shudder (much the same as race cars ect)
just wanted to enquire if others are having similar issues of brake pads and their material suddenly giving way prematurely due to being hot and then dunked into the salt water? And if so what they have done to help combat that?

Trip to Gnaraloo
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Thu, 2016-07-28 19:59Hi all
Recently back from our annual trip to Gnaraloo. Number 11 i think. Great to see Andy and his boys up there and our report is pretty much the same as his. Weather was average for most with two days putting it on. Some good Reds, Rankin, Mackerel, Wahoo to 30plus kg, Cobia, Spangled Emperor, Trevs and Coronation Trout were the main catches for the trip. We jiged, trolled, used plastics and baits. All worked well with baits probably winning the week this year on the reds.
Water temp was a crazy 27 degrees for most which is way above normal temp that we have experienced before. Sharks were a problem which is the first year we have encountered them.
We spent a lot of time throwing lures at tuna, soft plastics at bait balls and trolling for Wahoo and mackies on jets, hard bodies and skirts.
Gnaraloo continues to throw something new at us every year. Booked again for 2017. See you up there Andy.
Enjoy some of our pics.
Dave, Sab and Andrew.

So I've decided to go Chris Kyle on his ass! Just have to wait for him to come out of his hiding hole in those rocks and he won't be eating any more chooks!
Well ive taken the trip north to get a boar, slowly working the old pig dog up to a boar! (Had to pull him out of retirement) took him 5 minutes and he had a 30kg sow on the back of the ute!
will make ale good sausages in a few mouths! Just need to find the big one that's been walking around. But that will be after I fill up the tank at Mullewa pub!!!!

Cray divers and other fishers, time to put your keyboard where your mouth is for Bret Carters court case.
Submitted by Rob H on Tue, 2016-07-26 13:56there has been no change to Fisheries stance on his impending Supreme Court appeal.
So now is the time to get your lazy asses moving and write a short email of protest to the Minister for Fisheries Joe Francis.
This would seem to be the only way now to avoid this going to court, by showing Minister Francis how many people may be affected by this, aside from the toll on Bret himself.
It has become apparent that a few people have already been fined for the same thing, but only Bret had the fortitude to push ahead and defend it, to his credit.
Please take 5 minutes of your time to support the many $1k's Bret has already spent on this and flick off an email.
Tonite I will put up a stock email but a short one in your own words is worth way more.
I started trying to put a Change.org petition together without success, it just locks up on my computer when trying to save?
Does anyone have experience of putting one together?
What is needed is as many people as possible to write a short email to the Minister of Fisheries Joe Francis,
Minister.Francis@dpc.wa.gov.au
and CC Director of Fisheries Heather Brayford. (note the email address is her assistant)
Also CC Recfishwest and myself

For discussion - not fishing but footy
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2016-07-19 16:51This is in addition to the regular footy thread this week.
And i like to think this will be kept respectful.
Pav is one game away from his 350th game and not much further awsy from his last.
Until a couple of years ago i considered Glen Jackovich to be the greatest WA based player to have pulled on the boots in the VFL / AFL.
Now Pav has played about 60 - 70 more games than Jacko, but he retires without one, let alone the two premierships that Jacko has.
Pav has 6 All Australian jumpers, as a defender, midfielder and foward and kicked nearly 700 goals (despite playing his early days in defence and midfield).
Interested to hear everyone's respectful thoughts on who they believe to be the greatest WA based player, or indeed the greatest WA player (not necessarily based in WA).
Go.

Beware of tax scam going around fellas
Submitted by beeroclock on Fri, 2016-07-15 16:29Today ive been receiving a recorded message on my mobile from a guy with a slight german accent telling me he is calling on behalf of the commonwealth director of public prosecutions and that a warrant for my arrest will be issued shortly regarding non-payment of taxes. The number comes up on my phone as "02 8310 7470" after the threat he tells you to ring the number to discuss the matter further - I presume that's when they get you to pay money to stop your arrest warrant being issued. I called the tax dept. and they confirmed its a scam to get you to send money (I thought it was probably a scam when I received the first call but decided to call tax office on my lunch break) Another number used by the scammer is "02 6100 3027". I just want to give my fellow fishwreckers the heads-up about this crap going on cheers dave

Sheds and Patio's
Submitted by Bodie on Wed, 2016-07-13 14:54G'day all,
Wondering if anyone works for of could recommend potential companies that provide both patio's and shed in the metro area.
Looking most likely for a 20 x 20 shed or close to in size and a cabled colourbond patio which would go approx 10m x 4m
For the shed am more than capable of building myself so a kit option is an idea.
However the Patio i wont attempt as it wouuld need to attach the side of a 2 storey house and an existing carport.
Thanks
Bodie

Medicare Levy Surchage
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2016-07-13 14:28The Mrs has now gone full time and on top of being raped with child care fees for 3 kids which makes it almost not worthwhile sometimes it now also appears that we may creep over the threshold by $1000-2000 for the Medicare Levy Surchage (MLS) depending on how much overtime I take on.
There is no sliding scale with this surchage you literally pay it if you go even $1 over the threshold so the govt is basically giving me 5 choices:
1) take out private hospital cover as cheaply as I can find it
2) take on less overtime this year to stay under the threshold
3) maintain the same level of income but reduce my taxable income through salary sacrifice to stay under the threshold
4) push the envelope with deductions at tax time to to stay under the threshold
5) pay an extra 1% tax in the form of the MLS
I know it's a good problem to have but what a fucking joke
