Portable battery power box and charging
Submitted by holth on Wed, 2016-06-22 21:08Looking for some advice regarding a portable power battery box and best way of charging
I cant fit a dual battery system under the bonnet of my PK Ranger so it would be in the tray. So l thought it would be more user friendly to have a portable power battery box that can move with the fridge.
The research lve done is theres afew options on brands and they all do the same but charging is the main difference to some units which is were lm looking for info.
Currenty looking closely at the kickarse box and battery that has a 120ah agm DC battery sold through australiandirect . This unit can also be bought with a 3 stage dcdc charger and wiring kit that can be connected to the car for charging or solar panels. I like the fact the battery can be charging while driving. It would live permanently in the ute with the fridge. If l was not to get the dcdc charger it would be charged via 240volt at home and the fridge and battery would not stay permanently in the ute due to the battery needing charging every 2/3 days..
Heres my main question on deep cycle batteries. Does the life of the battery suffer by being left maintaining on a charger for long periods when not being used ie 1 to 2 months. Is it better for a DC battery to be discharged/charged on a regular basis and maintained by a dcdc charger in car.
Please set me straight on DC agm batterys and life expendancy and charging.
Thanks for reading

Online Store Platform
Submitted by big john on Wed, 2016-06-22 14:27Well I'm getting to the stage where I'm about to start up Big Johns Jigs as a registered business. I'm currently investigating setting up an online store through a plug ang play ecommerce platform such as shopify.
Before I bite the bullet and go for it I'm chasing members suggestions on any ecommerce platforms they may have experience in, both good and bad.
Thanks in advance.

dusky kob
Submitted by groverwa on Tue, 2016-06-21 17:15Have a look at http://www.watoday.com.au/environment/animals/south-african-fisherman-snares-catch-as-big-as-himself-20160621-gpon86.html
A South African fisherman has shocked himself - and the internet - by snaring a mulloway as big as himself.
A post appeared on the Cape Town Rock and Surf Fishing Facebook page in mid-June depicting the 60-kilogram fish reeled in by Renier.

Submitted by carnarvonite on Tue, 2016-06-21 10:25Got a call, that we all dread getting, from Carnarvon police this morning notifying me that someone had been washed in off the south wall at Quobba.
Phone calls made to get a crew and the rescue boat on its way in the case Tim Minchin from the station couldn't launch his dinghy to get to the bloke in the water.
10 minutes later got the call we all like to hear, he had been pulled from the water with one of the rescue life rings situated along that section of the coast. Crew were told to stand down but it just goes to show one must be aware of the conditions up there at all times.

Unsolicited phone calls
Submitted by Cruise Control on Mon, 2016-06-20 18:59can anyone tell me how I can stop the numerous unsolicited phone calls that I receive every night usually when we are sitting down to dinner.
I've just about had a gut full of these calls, having received 3 in under and hour. The last one really pissed me off though, just when I was about to abuse the caller only to find it was a recorded message from Mark McGowan. Not much use in abusing a recording !
But seriously, far too many of these calls and I need to stop them so as to preserve my sanity.

Looking for recommendations for a comfortable wearable life jacket to be worn all the time on the water , as I fish solo a fair bit and seeing recent incidences at sea ,think it might be best to invest in one in case the unthinkable happens .

Dreamteam
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2016-06-13 17:55Who does it? I've been doing it since 2008 and have a cash league with some guys who have all been in the same league since I started and we've stuck with the original Dreamteam rather than defect to the AFL Fantasy.
Just broke my run of 4 loses on the trott with a score of 2306 and still only got the 4th highest score such is the cut throut nature of the league I am in. Our league's average score is 2020 and we are ranked 333 in Australia!
I have finished minor premier the previous 2 years but late season injuries and resting of players has always ultimately killed me in the prelim. I am taking a slightly different approach this year and really milking the rookie cows giving away any chance at top spot and making sure I have trades and a lot of cash left over at the business end of the season.

Bloody dog activated my personal epirb
Submitted by scano on Mon, 2016-06-13 10:06Got back from a gnarloo trip about a week ago and as per normal with camping trips, had to wash and dry everything before putting away again. Mrs comes home this morning and says, "what's that beeping sound"
turns out the 5 month old Labrador puppy has managed to grab my personal epirb off the back table, remove it from its case and then undo the aerial to activate it. Upon noticing I had a missed call from search and rescue (thanks to them for the prompt response and understanding)
i felt a little embarrassed to be using the old "my dog ate my homework" type of excuse. Bloody Labradors! Been around them all my life and it never ceases to amaze me how smart but naughty they can sometimes be.

Round 12 - Who will be Owen??
Submitted by crasny1 on Thu, 2016-06-09 11:22Getting to the time that us tipsters need to get better to chase down Timmo. Well done so far mate.
Tougher round this one. Gambled last round a little, but picked Port Adelaide over the soggy Pies, but WC and GWS let me down. Geelong form has been up and down, and I was sure that GWS was up to it -alas the fat lady thought other wise.
only two(almost) certainties this Rd - Hawks over Bombers, Richmond over Suns. But Suns have some returning from injury and even this could be a harder than you think one.
4 games this week with teams locked together on the ladder, and 8 out of the nine top teams are playing each other.
Im rating Port and still think they may feature well in the finals, but Dogs are bitting oppositions - so Doggies for me
Freo for 2 from 2 (forget the other 10 LOL)
50/50 for NM vs Cats - leave that till later but leaning toward Cats. I think NM has had a good run but against lesser teams
WC to continue flat track bullies, but not convinced.
Carlton the big surprise so far this season (apart from Freo's tumble from grace) so with them vs Saints IMO
Sydney vs GWS - think Sydney but leaving this in the locker still
Melbourne vs Collingwood - what happened to the Pies. Was heading for a season when many (not me) predicted they would make the 8. I don't think so, but again this is a ball toss. With no confidence leaning Melbourne.
Phew - could be anything from 2 correct to 9 (dreaming)
I don't know what others think, but this Rd is bloody hard to pick!!!

Outboard Centre (QLD)
Submitted by bleicester on Wed, 2016-06-08 14:42Has anyone come across this site?
I have been doing my research on 150HP four-strokes and came across this site.
outboardcentre.com.au/yamaha-outboards/66-yamaha-f150xb-four-stroke-in-line-model-2015.html
The prices look way too good to be true - $5808 for a new F150XB??? even the pre-discount prices look too low. Is anyone aware of any scams going around? I had a search on the Scamwatch site but didn't find anything there.

New saltiga rods
Submitted by fisharoo on Wed, 2016-06-08 12:34i have a couple of the previous saltiga rods which I rate highly. But with most things I found most of the newer rods compared to the older generations have replaced great components with OK ones. With the sales coming up I'm thinking of picking up a new model saltiga rod. After doing some research, I'm still wondering if the new ones have titanium guides?
Does anyone know for sure what type of guides they use? I'm very sure the model I have atm has the titanium sic ones as mentioned in the Daiwa site.
thanks

small torch recommendation, led lenser?
Submitted by anypuddle on Tue, 2016-06-07 20:54hi fishwreckers, please advise if anyone can reccomend on a modern torch that runs on one or 2 aa/ (prefer but aaa ok) batteries, doesnt need massive lumens just need solid design.that can survive some abuse/real work, ie shock/tapping on glass. I know led lensers are poular in my field of work but anyone used quark/zebralight?
I dont need the greatest super light just something that will last with a lot of use and a rugged design, battery as long as they are are aa or aaa not a concern as they are supplied thru work. Sick of buying ebay super duper cree torches that break as soon as i knock them around and everready ($30 plus) torches that cut in and out after a few weeks. Pleae let me know what works for you and where you got it.
Cheers everyone.
Anypuddle.
