Round 10
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2019-05-23 13:58The ladder will begin to take shape over the coming weeks. It looks like a pretty insipid round of AFL coming up and the Pies and Geelong should move one step closer to September action and GWS are again emerging as a genuine threat during the home and away season.

Day of red-emption
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2019-05-22 19:29Our 7th and last day on the water in coral bay for this year went well with another couple of pbs. I managed a nice red at 9,75 KG just under the best for the trip. Sandy got a pb of spanglie and a first of a blue barred parrot fish that went 5 1/2 kg. 7 reds in total for the day with various other species to give us the bag out.

Drones and drone fishing
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Mon, 2019-05-20 11:19Hey guys, looking at getting a drone. Anyone have any views on what they have, what's good what's not ?
looking at getting a DJI drone in some form, looking at the cheaper end before spending any decent cash.
Plus, if my drone decides to keep flying out to sea through my own fault, the less money spent, the better it will be lol.
Cheers

5th day on the water
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2019-05-19 21:10After a couple of days r&r back into the fishing side of things. The day started slow but things changed when the fish started playing ball. As usual plenty of pickers but a few nice ones came up. A couple of spanglies one of which went 3 1/2 kg a nice red from brenden that went just shy of 10kg along with a ok goldie and a few other mixed . I managed another nice rankin at 8 1/2kg and not realy much else apart from the usual tomato cod and honeycombe cod. Sandy got anothe red but a bit smaler along with the small cods. Weather wise it was good but the current was ripping. Tomorrows another day.

Day 3 coral bay.
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2019-05-14 20:27
Certainly wasnt the best day for wind . Got out anyway and got a few fish and donated a couple of reds to a taxman in a pin striped suit at aprox 3mtrs long . Sandy again managed to get the only red on the boat . Finished the day with some tuna fun and watching a humpback frolicking on the surface .

iPad with GPS to run Navionics in remote Pilbara
Submitted by Myk Braders on Tue, 2019-05-14 12:46G'Day crew. With my recent boat purchase I got a Garmin sounder/gps with the BlueChart g2 and it's just not the same or as detailed as my old Lowrance running Navionics.
As an addition to my Garmin,I'm looking at getting an iPad with Wifi+Cellular as they have GPS and works well with Navionics. However, I've been told once you loose cellular reception you loose GPS, rendering Navionics useless out there.
I'd like to purchase a new Lowrance HDS Carbon instead but I'm trying to keep the cost down while still having the big screen (and keeping the mrs too).
If I was staying local I wouldn't think twice about it, but since I'm heading 100+klms off shore (And in the Pilbara so it's remote) I don't know if the above information is correct or not.
Has anyone got Navionics on an iPad they use in areas that does not have cellular reception? Or has anyone done similar with any advice?
Cheers, Mike

Mucking around with cars...
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2019-05-11 17:38This is about as far as I have got with it, will update in a few weeks when I get home from work, assuming the thread has any interest.
Maybe an alternative from the footy stuff
So, a fair time back after a bit of to and fro about getting hold of "her" car to pull the boat down the ramp I decided it's time to get my own rig and sell the Hilux.
Being the sort of bloke who cant just get a loan and buy one (never borrowed for a car or boat) and needing something to carry my 5 kids and tow 3.5T at times there was limited choices anyway.
Decided the best option was to look for a cut down 105 Landcruiser.
Not a fan of the 1hz so when this popped up on Gumtree I made the bloke an offer subject to inspection with 300ks on it, stat write off HDJ100.
These are generally accepted to be the "Landcruiser Toyota should have built but didnt", due to their engine policy of only 2 or 3? choices on any model.
It'd been t-boned at the rear.
Was thinking I should be able to pick some holes in it and knock it down a bit further when I look at it.
Grabbed a trailer and drove to 450ks, chucked a battery in only to find it had actually only had 220.
Price was about half what the wrecks sell for at auction so drove it round the paddock and grabbed it.
Started sniffing around for a 105 wagon or dual cab, and after a few months came across this...
Looks pretty rough but it actually only had a couple of small bits of rust, $1500. Plus already chopped from new and been rego'ed though it'd been off the road since 2010.
Someone elses abandoned project.
Downside was that if Id picked one up already on the road and driving I could have sorted it in a few weeks, but hey, wheres the fun in that

Pulled body off and stripped to literally every bolt on chassis. Ute had been a miner, but pretty well every inch underneath had been heavily coated and protected.
Nightmare to get off, but like new underneath, this is actually after the diffs and shit were swapped for 3.9's and refitted.
Body similar, not a single wire or bolt on component left on it, then off to get painted.
And here is where it ground to a stop...
Took the bloke around a year to complete, there was some feisty texts and calls.
Meantime I stripped the wreck and put the chassis stuff together.
It ALL has to come out, then be fitted in the same correct order. Leave a plug disconnected etc, and shit dont work...

Fuck all

Reluctantly started pulling out sections of the dash to see where the mystery security light was coming from. Found 2 plugs Id left unplugged, still nothing after 6 hrs.
"sure you've got the key transponder plugged in"?
"yeah the grey wire"
"no the black one"
Started straight away...
Drove it out of my shed finally under its own steam after a long time as can be seen by how dusty it is.
Still a few months of tinkering to go, and I'll update this further.
"if you have to ask why, you wouldnt understand haha!"

Green lefties at us again.
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2019-05-07 13:24So I'm a soon to be ex member of a FB page called Freo massive. The tree hugging left have just about taken it over and have taken aim at balloon fisho's and rubbish left behind by land based fisho's. I tried to have a rationalised discusssion but of course they can't control themselves and just start finger pointing at us all who fish.
I told them with this attutude you just lose anyone with good intention and in the end we will tell you to fuck off. I totally support cleaning up after yourself etc as most of us do, but it's not good enough for them.
Ha ha one of them said you need a licence to balloon fish from shore which I told her you don't and to do some research and educate herself. She cam back to me and said she already did in a meet with Dave Kelly loooool. I kindly told her what a flog he is and how he just about destroyed the crayfishing industry.
They are out there fella's determined to piss us all off.

Inflatable PFD fails
Submitted by Alan James on Mon, 2019-05-06 16:11I recently read on another fishing forum that there were numerous occasions where the gas cylinders had unknowingly become unscrewed from the PFD. Some were concerned enough to vow never to wear an inflatable again. I am posting this as a reminder to others that maintenance checks are required on inflatable PFDs. Anyone on here had any issues?

Lighthouse Caravan Park Exmouth
Submitted by JW77 on Mon, 2019-05-06 12:43For the Exmouth regulars that stay at the Lighthouse Caravan Park, we just tried booking for the July school holidays 2020 to find out the park is closed for renovations from October 2019. They don’t know when the park will be reopening so not taking bookings at this stage. Now to think of a plan B!

On the road again
Submitted by Doc on Mon, 2019-05-06 12:38Well in my best Willy Nelson, we’re on the road again. Doctor gave me clearance to get back on our travels so booking a couple of flights each to get back to Geraldton in a couple of weeks and drive back to Mingenew where our bus is. Minus the pooch, we’ll pick him up again later on. Going to spend a while exploring the gold fields, oddly enough, in all our travels, we’ve been to Kalgoorlie just the once, so looking forward to visiting some of these old towns before we go and trip around the Murray River in the summer. Bring on the yella bellies.

Bipartisan political humor
Submitted by Anytime Brad on Fri, 2019-05-03 12:00While walking down the street one day a Member of Parliament is tragically hit by a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
'Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter.
'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.'
'No problem, just let me in,' says the man.
'Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.'
'Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the MP.
'I'm sorry, but we have our rules.'
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he went down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he found himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and dressed in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They played a friendly game of golf and then dined on lobster, caviar and champagne
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it's time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and wave whilst the elevator rises....
The elevator rises and the door opens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.
'Now it's time to visit heaven.
24 hours pass with the MP joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
'Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.'
The MP reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.'
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
When the doors open he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.
He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. ‘I don't understand,' stammers the MP.
'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?
The devil looks at him, smiles and says,
'Yesterday we were campaigning -
Today you voted’.
