Mandurah Marlin
Submitted by beau on Sun, 2018-03-18 19:30Heres a screenshot from a video posted on Facebook of a Marlin from one of Mandurahs northern beaches today. In the video it looks like the local Surf Rescue crew trying to revive a somewhat lifeless marlin.

The 11th hour
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2018-03-18 16:54Gotta say the conditions werent that flash but with the forecast for the winds to drop off then pick up around noon we decided instead of looking further afield we went to hit our usual spots and try for a feed of kg and anything else that took a fancy to the baits . First drift we hardly had a nibble let alone a decent bite. 2nd drift same again but managed a just size lizzard that went back. Drift after drift was much the same with Sandy getting an undersize pink & dhuie ,1 skippy 1 sand whiting and a couple of wrasse that all went back to fight another day. I had a desent bite and i was on . Pulling a bit and then just dead weight all i saw come up was 1 cavernous mouth that belonged to a huge gurnard. Damn. Carefully removing the hook it went back .
Drift after drift and lots of moving around trying everything we couldnt buy a fish. At around 11:30 we moved to another spot about a mile away and again nothing .
By this time it was starting to get a bit windy and sloppy out there. Decision was made to make our way in . Heading back Sandy said lets just do 1 more drift in our area we were fishing before. Pulled up and set the drift and within a few minuits Sandy was on ,with a nice fight it had us guessing all the way up till a double header of nice kg. Dinner was in the esky . In the meantime my rod was getting hit hard. Grabbing the rod straight away i new by the fight another kg. Nothing else on that drift so went back to the start to try and get another couple of kg. No such luck but my line got taken and the fight had me guessing and then a nice size foxy came into sight .
In the end it was hard going out there but got a feed. What more could you ask for. Dinner sorted for 2 nights in te fridge.

TC Marcus.
Submitted by Dale on Sun, 2018-03-18 11:31just watching the possible track on Met Eye and while it’s forcast to go out wide and drift left at Cat 5, it’s a similar track that Alby took in April 1978. That killed a few people, had wildfires going and the Busso jetty got knocked over. I’ve asked the BOM if this is a possibility, I’m waiting on their reply.

On the bludge-inflatable dinghy
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2018-03-17 15:53 Easter-weather permitting we are heading to Port Gregory then Wallabies and perhaps North Island.
Doing the Batavia thing with the kids but last time we found it too hard to get to West Wallaby without a dinghy.
Just wondering if anyone has a small inflatable they might loan?
I have a 4hp outboard (bought from Mr Eziliving
) a couple of years back but the small poly dinghy I have may not really be suitable.
My daughter is driving up for the trip on the 28th/29th

We Could Have Been Champions
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2018-03-16 19:52Lots of us are passionate about our sport and (I assume) most of us are past our prime. I had to go for an injection for a bulging C6 yesterday and at 37 have to learn to moderate my activities going forward so going with the theme "the older we get, the better we were" I'd be interested to hear about some of the sporting achievements of the lads on here.

Solar power for shed help
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Fri, 2018-03-16 06:12Looking at running a solar power setup at my farm shed and need some advice.
I was wanting to run around 10 × 100w lights.
The only power I will have will be solar and a little genset to run some power tools, my engel is fine to run off of the car that has solar.
I need help with what sort of setup can i have to run lights ? I was thinking a few house solar panels, some sort of controller, inverter and solar batteries ? Or can I use deep cycle car batteries ?
Sorry in advance for the incorrect terminology as I am going to google or youtube a few ideas and gain a bit of knowledge.
But it would be handy to know if any of you guys have done the same and have some good ideas.
Or even if you just understand what equipment will be needed and what can and cant work.
But also be a safe system that I can leave charging and then use on weekends.
I didnt want to go brand new, just stuff I can pickup 2nd hand and be a little project.
Cheers Scotty

the crabs are still there
Submitted by petermac on Thu, 2018-03-15 19:30the crabs are still around mandurah , if you are chasing them and launch at the coodanup (think thats how its spelt ) be aware both sides of the newish ramp has dirty great holes about 500mm deep about 3 meters in to the water 1 wheel on a trailer will disapear in the holes leaving your trailer on a buggered angle making it hard to get your boat back on the trailer straight use the older side of the ramp

The scoop
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Thu, 2018-03-15 11:16 Went down last night and put the net in hoping for some mullet. The water wasnt that clear as there was a fair amount of silt and weed floating around. Wasnt much wind around just before sunset . There wasnt much around until after the sun went down and then the crabs came out to play. Loads of undersize blues and jennys around along with numerous rays bumping into the net. Ended up with a feed of crabs which were caught in the scoop 1 taylor and 1 mullet. As well as a few small bream and a couple of small flounder that alk swam away well. Called it quits at 8 as need to get up at 2am for work. A few more mullet would have been good but ended with a feed anyway.

Crovacing
Submitted by eziliving on Sun, 2018-03-11 06:31Just chasing your thoughts on crovacing. When you buy something from the shop ie ham, scotch fillet steak, or a roast that has been crovac. The shelf life in the fridge generally is around a month. If I go catch a feed of fish, or buy some steak or what ever from a butcher and crovac it does this extended the shelf life without having to freeze the food?

Davie Dave David Warner you C***
Submitted by timboon on Wed, 2018-03-07 21:00He's a tosser and its a f***ing bad look having egotistical wanker like him in the team...
Same bloke that said we'd loose to the poms in England because they weren't good enough only for them to flog us!!
From what i've read he's the on field bully, niggles and niggles and niggles....
Then he cant take it when it comes back his way, I wish that Safa had have thumped some sense into the wanker with his Grey Nichols....
Surely the Aussie cricket team must be up there with the most disliked team going around, even more so than Collingwood!!
Rant over....

Fish Identification Guide
Submitted by Rets on Tue, 2018-03-06 20:42 What happened to it? Whenever I click on it, it says "Access denied, You are not authorized to access this page"
I hope it comes back or gets fixed, that was probably the best fish identification guide I've personally ever been able to find, it helped me out countless times.
And if for some reason it's been permanently removed, does anyone know any other good Fish ID guides?
Cheers

Fish gods smiling
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2018-03-04 19:07Heading out this morning at a gentlemans hour of 7:45 the water was a bit messy but proceeded as the forecast was for the winds to drop right down and they did...We had a friend Katherine with us hoping to get her onto some fish. Luckily the gods were with us and she managed to get her first kg. To say she was happy was an understatement....We managed to get a nice mixed bag out there with several of the damn scorpion fish nailing the baits. lots of small (just under size ) flattys out there which were a pain along with loads of wrasse but when you can get a feed like this you dont mind sacrificing a few baits. Along with a couple of surprize catches. Sandy managed to get a decent size occy and i got a pb squid... As far as the western king wrasse go not being nasty to my mum she loves them so we keep a few of the big ones for her as well as a feed of dhuie and kg for dad .All up it was a great day with the seas smoothing right off for a quick trip back in at 1:30.
