Hard day out
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2018-04-02 16:11 With the forecast looking okish organised ShaneO to go out for a bash. Headed off at the crack of dawn with an easterly blowing moderate so thinking not going to be too bad. Wrong. The winds didnt drop off but picked up which made it a tad rough . I was asked "do you have any kwels on board " . But i will give Shane credit he stuck it out for a couple of hours till the wind dropped off a bit. We made our way into some shallower and calmer waters to give the whiting a bash. Them damn western butter fish in plague numbers made it hard to get the whiting but we ended up getting 20 decent size ones for the table. Lots of small flatties out there as well and them spikes hurt when you get stuck in the knee. Headed in at a leasurly speed of 25knots. Hopefully next time the winds will be more in our favor .finished the day off with beer battered whiting and chips.

Tom price Lightning
Submitted by ranmar850 on Mon, 2018-04-02 06:28Got this night before last. I was set up to do time lapses of some storm which didn't really lend themselves to good lighting still--too far away, all inside the cloud, behind rain, etc, then this one frame stood out. And that is pretty much how it looked on the instant review.

Point Peron Poo Pipe
Submitted by Swompa on Fri, 2018-03-30 17:54Headed out from Shoalwater bay today towards 5FB in the vacinity of the end of the Poo pipe that currently has warnings relating to health issues fishing within 1km of the end.
Jesus Christ can you smell it when you're out there! The water is filthy and you can see the slick extending towards GI.
At first I accused my mate but once we realised it was neithe of us, it kept getting stronger.
I didn't notice any signs at the ramp but as it is a health warning, I am surprised there is nothing there.
Further surprised that Fisheries research were parked in the no parking verge area when we got back. Right in the spot plenty of people get fined.

Best small winch ( semi portable)
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2018-03-30 05:57Fellas I'm looking at buying a winch to get a dingi on the canopy roof and also if/when needed for doing some winching out 4x4 or trailer etc.
I'll have it mounted so it will be able to slot it in the Reece hitch but it won't be permanently mounted.
I want something reliable and strong without it being too big and heavy.
Has anyone got anything or can recommend anything that might suit?
Boon

Opinions on side console vs centre
Submitted by sea-kem on Wed, 2018-03-28 16:45Righto fellas I'm getting close with my little project boat ( 4.75 Quintrex Bayhunter) It was a runabout but am changing it to either a side or centre console. It's pretyy well been a total rebuild, but being a milenium hull and in very good nick thought it was worth it. I'd like a few opinions on either, pros and cons. I won't put any pics up until she's together, I want to show from start to finish. I hope you'll be proud of what I've done here Gordon ;)

Timber
Submitted by Bryce Day on Tue, 2018-03-27 12:44Hey,
After some figured black walnut boards for rifle stocks. Have been to the timber bloke in naval base but he is running low. Does anyone know of anyone else that may be worth a shot?
here is the latest one ready to go in the duplicator. Figured walnut & tiger maple with 3 layers of carbon fibre. I normally press them when gluing but it has another blank in it!

Newbie heading out to Wilbinga in a few days
Submitted by Padric on Mon, 2018-03-26 16:19Hi All - Thanks for having me on fishwrecked!
I'm heading out to Wilbinga from Wednesday till saturday and targeting tailor (and night time mulla). Does any of you lads have any recent experience on catches? Also, with the rains coming down atm, any idea what sand will be like? Been a cpl of times over the last year and noticed a different feel in the sand every time. Slightly worried that top layer will be good but underneath... making any loose stuff difficult to spot :(
Feel free to come and say hello if you happen to be around - got a white FJ and probably be fishing the southern-end of wilbinga area!
Hope I can post some nice pics afters.
Cheers,
Pat

Where in hell is our Indian Summer
Submitted by sea-kem on Thu, 2018-03-22 19:40 Bloody hell by the looks of it two years running and no fishing over Easter
. Cyclones and southerlies can't even get my pots out the water which is my mission at the moment. This is the time of year where winds usually start settling and you could almost bank on decent days. That's out the F^%&^%ng window lol. Glad the wine stocks are up will probably write myself off with a few of my cellared specials.

Boat Registration
Submitted by Grey Ghost on Tue, 2018-03-20 11:13I'm selling my boat at the moment and it has been sitting at a boat yard for a few weeks. The boat registration is now due for renewal. Do I need to renew this as I have no intention of using the boat? I believe that the buyer can pay this when the boat gets bought/transferred into their name, or I can pay it shortly before it gets sold. I understand that the boat trailer needs to be licenced othewise it will need to go over the "pits". Please indicate whether my assumptions are correct regarding renewing boat rego. and any negatives of not renewing the boat rego.
Thanks
