Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2018-04-20 15:04A few games of interest but looking like a week where most of the fav's should win....

Bris
Hawks
WC

I'll be interested to see what Melbourne and Carlton bring this week.
Also the spotlight will start to shine brighter on the Crows if they dont give Sydney a nudge...

Towing with a 200 series ,
Submitted by todd davies on Thu, 2018-04-19 14:25I have a 2015 200 series and tow my boat which is about 1800kg. What do i select ?? leave it in drive , shift it across to select and whatch the taco go up and down as its scrolling between 4 ,5, 6, gears on a reasonably flat road.Or do i select 4th or 5th gear. Any advice would be greatly apreciated, its a badly programmed auto from what i understand and i was hoping someone has worked out how to make the most of it with towing.
cheers Todd

Pickled/Marinated Octopus recipe?
Submitted by YakaBagus on Tue, 2018-04-17 10:11Hey new user here. Ive been pickling octopus over the last 6 months and was after your guys advice or recipes.
I currently boil the octopus for about an hour then remove the skin and leave in a jar with a mixture of italian and french salad dressings (which have vinegar and oil in them) along with chopped chillis , onion and capsicum.
Im fairly happy with the results but would like a more authentic italian/greek/mediterannean recipe if anyone would be willing to share.
Thanks in advance, Sam

Mixed bag of goodies
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2018-04-15 19:54Thinking it wasnt going to be too bad out wide today we decided to head out to some ground about 22nm out. How wrong was the forecast. It was slow going getting out there and the fishing wasnt much better.
Fished for about an hour and got 1fish in total which was a foxy. Moved out a bit further to some ground that didnt look too bad on the gps. While slowly cruising the area a nice lump of 5 mtrs popped up with a showing of fish. Set the drift and sure enough Sandy hooked up . Landing a size bauldie shortly after i hooked a size dhuie . Reset the drift but the wind had changed a bit and no longer on the same drift but as usual Sandy hooked up again this time a decent blackass. Reset the drift and this time not to my surprise Sandy hooked up again . This time it was going real hard and with her bad shoulder then passed the rod over to me . All this fish wanted to do was get back tho the bottom so im thinking nice dhuie . After about 5 minuits struggling to keep the fish off the bottom i managed to raise it to the surface to see a nice size shark. Turned out to be a whiskerie.
Called it a day as it certainly wasnt calming down as the forecast said so it was a slow day comming in and lucky to even get the boat up on the plane. Only took about an hour and a half to get in . In the end we were successful looking for new ground and getting a feed. Finished the day off with a feed of beer battered bauldie and chips.

Footy Rnd 4
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2018-04-12 08:53Toughish week for tipping me thinking....
Crows should win easy enough
GWS should win easy enough
Richmond should win easy enough
Then it gets a bit tougher after that...
You'd think Sydney should also win easy enough?!?!
Nth and Carlton seems a coin toss but surely if the Blues want to break the trend it starts by beating Nth
WC were pretty good against a team that were 3 down at the finish line but will the GC be better or worse having the opportunity to play two games in a row at OPTUS?
Essendon have had a bit of bite taken away from them but i expect it will go down to the wire with Port
Hawks have trouble with the Dees and i reckon Melbourne are going to take some beating until they think the are playing finals
I'd love to say the Saints are a chance ( i think they are one of the few who have won down there in recent years ) but they are a bit of a rabble but i expect that game to be pretty close also........
Buddy to go on a tear against the dogs and kick a bag.....

Accommodation with Boat Facilities
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2018-04-11 12:15So I've got my 10th wedding anniversary coming up next weekend and we're going to ditch the kids and stay overnight in the metro area. We're looking at an apartment in East Freo near the river but does anyone know of somewhere on the river where we can stay that has a boat pen or even a mooring available as part of the accomodation as we may look at going to Rotto the next day depending on the weather or just cruise on up to Lizzy Quay for dinner that night etc (and chuck out a couple of sneaky minnows on the move).
I've flicked an email to Pier 21 so keen to see if anyone knows of anything else. I know there's a public mooring in the area but don't want to rely on that only to have to take the boat all the way back home if it's taken.
Cheers

Work wanted on fridays
Submitted by dakka on Wed, 2018-04-11 02:34Howdy all
At the end of April my work is cutting back hours I work Monday to Thursday Afternoon shifts as a machine operator in a factory in canning vale, being a single income family this is going to impact us a bit, especially as I live in warnbro it costs a bit in fuel every week. I know a lot of people are out of work but anyway I have Friday's off so if anyone needs a lacky or knows of any work going on a Friday please let us know, it doesn't have to be permanent a few shifts here or there would be handy. I have my HR drivers licence, fork lift ticket, intermediate boiler ticket and f class bus licence I would be most grateful if any one can help me out at all. As I live in warnbro sor would suit better but can't be to choosey these days thank you.

Change of electric reel lcd display from Japanese to English?
Submitted by scano on Tue, 2018-04-10 19:20Hi all,
seen as though there is an ever increasing deep drop following on here, as well as some pretty smart individuals, I have the following question.
has anyone looked into or had success, in changing an electric reel lcd display from Japanese to English?
I have a shimano Forcemaster 6000 on its way from Japan, and although there is English notation on the buttons, the Lcd screen is in Japanese (obviously the numbers are universal).
has anyone been through the exercise of changing the lcd wording from Japanese to English? And if so what was required? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Before people jump to conclusions, I do buy 90% of my fishing gear in Aus, and support site sponsors As much as I can. When the cost of supply and delivery from Japan is literally half that to buying within Australia, it's the main reason I have opted to purchase from the international market on this occasion.

Bunbury Boating
Submitted by selthy on Tue, 2018-04-10 07:21Heading down to Bunbury on the weekend with extended family and thinking of taking the boat (20ft). Weather forecast looks reasonable but not fantastic offshore. Plan to launch at power boat club.
Do you have any tips or suggestions for family cruises with kids, where to head to catch a feed of whiting or squid & other inshore species. If weather looks OK and I may head out deeper.

A couple of pb's for us today
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2018-04-08 18:31With the forcast looking ok early in the morning and better as the day went on an early start was a go.
Decided to go out a bit further than normal out to where Sandy got her pb dhuie. No dhuies today but the first fish on board was a pb bauldie for Sandy .not huge compared to some but happy as a proverbial.
Went back for another drift over the same area and this time a pb bauldie for me. As these are my mums fave fish we sent a pic straight to her just to tease .
The rest of the morning wasnt anything to right home about . We tried all over looking for new ground. All we managed was a small bbum and undersize pinks. As the water near on glassed off we thaught why not just stay out and relax and hope for a few more fish.
We ended up starting to make our way in early arvo with a stop at our kg grounds on the way in. Sure enough as the lines hit the bottom we were on with a couple of nice kg . Nothing else on the drift so went back and another 2nice kg hit the lines . Went dead after that apart from a massive hookup for sandy that bricked her real quick. Thinking it may be a dhuie but who knows. Sandy got busted off there a couple of weeks back by a monster dhuie so could be the same resident. Its currently wearing some jewelry.
We called it a day and cruised in on a leasurly 25 knots.
In the end we had a great day out and a couple of pb's and new species for us down in mandurah.

Gear advice
Submitted by scottland on Sun, 2018-04-08 05:51Hey guys and gals
so being the good son that i am ive paid for the old man and myself to go on a trip to fiji and now realised i need to buy gear. Old boy is a fisherman but this will defiantly be his first and last trip so i dont want to spend thousands on a combo for him. Basically looking for a budget gt combo. Where we are going they hardly encounter 50kg mondos
my two options i have in my head anyway is saragosa 18000 or a okuma salina 16000
not even sure wherero start rod wise for him

Outboard for quinny explorer 370 outback
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2018-04-05 13:55Crew... Fairly sure I'll lock in a 370 outback explorer to throw on the roof of the ute ( yes Ranmar it's happened we've bought a van )...
Now wondering what to power it with. If I got the 390 I probably would've got the twin carb 25 yam 2 stroke but as the max power rating is 20hp I'm now unsure of what to throw on the back?
Ideas?
