Esperance Salmon - gang hook size and type

 Hi there

I have a question about a rig set up for Salmon /tailor/Mullaway for surf beach fishing down Esperance for family Xmas holidays.  I've dusted off my 20 year old 650 Alvey and 13 footer going oldschool after Salmon etc. I'm mainly a fly fisherman but don't really want to deal with waves=surf etc with a fly rod.

My plan is to fish mulies on a 4 gang hook setup either with a running ball sinker/star sinker or just bait casting. I'm wandering want size and type of hook to gang. Back in the day I used to use a gang of four 4/0 Tarpons for tailor but not sure if I should go to 5/0 for Salmon. I've used Kendall Kirbys and limericks on the past also but always preferred Tarpons.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Shade cloth

Hi. I want to have a shade cloth made up to fit to the front of my boat as it faces due west when parked in my driveway. Will just need to be cut / sewn to fit and press studs inserted. Any recommendations for a trimmer North, Wangara etc - Cheers

Christmas island GTs

Jumped in with the wife while someone in the boat threw in some fish scraps.youtu.be/7-AJ4QCMtAo

Plastic craypots

Is anyone on here using plastic pots they seemed to be popular years ago I've been given a couple and was thinking about putting them out inshore at dongra around Australia day. I usually dive for crays and fish for that matter but want something to do with the grandson anyone in the know would it be a waste of time only have a 3.5mtr inflatable rib was the reason for using the plastics still might be a mission though.

North Island NZ fly fishing guide

 Hi all

We're heading to Auckland area in January for 2 weeks and I'd like to go trout fishing for a day or two. Does anyone know of any operators in that general area?

Cheers

Cray Ropes

For those that are dropping pots I recommend not leaving a long line of rope on the surface otherwise you will face the misery of losing your pot. The clip on weights are cheap and keep excess rope underwater, or tie a dogbone to shorten the rope.

Lots of pots just outside of hillarys today basically on the route out to the good potting spots behind the reef. Many with long ropes, but one less today as we accidently chomped one up coming through.

First blue ring

Pulled the pots of the back of GI this morning after scatting seaweed seeds. Getting changed back in the carpark at work and notice this little blue ring half way up the structure of the helm chair.

We got one lot of weed on the floats and i threw buckets of water on the deck to clean it off (with the carpet rolled up) so he must have been hiding somewhere.

That is my pinky finger so it is tiny.

Tub with hoses and muff

 Hi FW people

Left a black plastic tube with 2 hoses, a mufdf and a branch connector ar Ocean Reef Marina yesterday at about 9:00AM. If anyone might have picked it up, it would be greta if you could contact me on the forum. Cheers - Eric

Shark news

The absolute idiots are at it again. ABC news site reports decapitated tiger shark at Busselton jetty.
'And the rest of us are left wondering how in the hell we preserve recreational fishing when we're surrounded by absolute drop kicks.

Shark fishing on Perth now

Article on perthnow about a shark close to shore, might be good if you directed your wire trace ban comments on there to let dumb Punch know what you think. Just a thought....

 Happy as "Pig in S..."

Behind Garden Island.

Cray bait

Thought I'd drop cray pots in tommorow arvo and cruised down to shore catch for some bait and not open saturdays anymore or not at all? Shop kind of looks empty. Now I'm actually struggling to find where to buy bait anywhere. Does anyone know where can buy 20kg boxes NOR on a Saturday arvo?

The warm water is here!

Just saw 21 - 22 degree water current coming down from Jurien bay now and over the weekend  hopefully a few pelagics start appearing off perth  im excited!  (sorry havent had much to be excited about for a while with this ban and crap weather we been having)  cheers fellas

Two Rocks to Wedge advice

I am heading to this location for a fish and have no idea where to fish. Any tips would be much appreciated. PM me if preferred.

Transducer

I was going with the tm260 on the new boat but contemplating the equivalent as in hull for doing deeper water. It's a plate boat and my question is how robust are the in hull units as the boat drags its belly quite often across very shallow sand bars to get out the mouth.Would it handle it ?

cheers

Has anyone seen Bass Strait calmer

Question for the brains trust

 Ok here's the scenario....

Son wants to head out into the sound with his mates and catch some Herring and Whiting, they plan to hit the back of Garden island and cook up that potential feed.

Any non legalities with that?

I didn't think so but trying google a question like that is a mission.

Cheers

Dirk Hartog trip report

Did 7 days at Dirk afew weeks ago, what a crazy place,

afew days down the bottom of the island on the east side,

so much fun wading around with light gear, sea life everywhere,

sharks swimming around ur ankles , flattys, trevs, whiting, bait schools, turtles

so alive.

Spent afew days up the top, one session at the block fishing solo (while missus read a book) straight up hooked a big Spanish which once I got it too the bottom of the cliff revealed itself as a huge wahoo, one last bolt and my braid rubbed on the cliff , gone, decided a bit too Dangerous fishing there with no one around ,

So had afew sessions out front of our shack at urchin point while the swell was down, great trip but would return with a bigger crew, not the place to go with just you and ur missus.

I've never seen so much sea life anywhere else.

thanks for the info I got from some of the members here

Tailor

Nice afternoon today grabbed a block

of mulies to chase a bit of bait ! Hopefully

convert into something larger another night.
The tailor came on early round 4.30pm .

me and my mate managed our bag well

before sun down. Not too bad on size with

most in mid 40s and a little bigger..

cheers pirate..

Whites run predictions?

Anyone got thoughts on the most likely timing for the whites this year? I've been potting last few weeks but only reds and the majority berried females. Last year the expert at Fisheries thought it could be ealry November due to slightly higher water temperatures, but it wasn't ue to a surprise cooler water pulse in November that delayed things From what I have gathered, on an average year where coastal seawater temperature is 20 or above, ealry to Mid- to late November is normal for the run, but last year it was patchy and around Perth metro seemed to only really get going from about 7 December. Anyone thinking this month is still likely, or could it be  December like last year?
