Reliable Quality Shipwright Wanted
Submitted by 22Tango on Sun, 2016-09-25 11:01Hi All,
I'm the owner of a Boston Whaler Conquest 235 with 700hrs on it. I want to give the boat a birthday and I'm trying to find a decent shipwright who can repair all he gel coat nicks and scores, replace the clears, repair replace the engine cowling, replace a light or 2 cover etc etc. The boat is in good condition, I just want to get all the small items completed which annoy me.
Ideally I'd like to get the work done in its storage shed in Beckenham straight across from where I work so I'm there if the need me for any further repairs.
Can anyone suggest someone reputable?
Thanks
Steve

Sore Kidneys
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2016-09-24 17:37No I wasn't visited by a bearded man with a tyre iron in the middle of the night. Took the old man out for a sesh and we decided to stay inshore as the reef was breaking.
Tried chucking lures into some whitewater on some big bombies for nought so moved onto some broken ground and did a drift and the old boy pulls in a horse after I dropped a huge tarwine. We did another drift and I pulled in another one so we drove back and anchored up and sent out a berley trail and had some great fun until the blowies turned up.
Lost about 5 rigs just below the swivel and can only assume there were some bolt cutters around.
Great morning with the old man and an even better feed. Biggest KG went 46 and biggest skippy went 39.

Esky
Submitted by Bryce Day on Sat, 2016-09-24 17:01Well i was messing around home the other week before work, keeping an odd eye on the weather. Wednesday started to take my fancy so I called a farmer from down south asked if he was keen to try his new boat out. He said for sure. So armed with a few GPS positions and my blue esky I set off. we loaded was to much beer/food on the boat for 5 fishermen/farmers the blue esky was just about full.
Weather was ok, making the beach launch a dream. We were off,had a slow day but the esky came into its own once the fish were coming in. Just good to be able not have to worry if there is enough ice on the fish and keeping them in good condition and straight.

Hopetoun landbased?
Submitted by sackshaker on Thu, 2016-09-22 18:40Hi all. I'm heading done to hopetoun (boatless) for a few days. Having never been before I was hoping someone on here would have some tips on the place. I'll be taking a range of rods so any type of landbased will be good. I've heard there's good black bream in the river down there. Also some monster skippy of the beach/rocks.
Thanks in advance.

Go fishing, licence-free, on October 16, 2016 (48hr Ban Delay)
Submitted by Darren253 on Thu, 2016-09-22 10:49Fisheries Minister Joe Francis today encouraged West Australians to join in and celebrate the inaugural national Gone Fishing Day on October 16, 2016.
Mr Francis said that, as an added incentive, recreational fishers in WA would not require a licence on the day, allowing people to try their hand at something they might not have tried before.

Weekend Weather - Jurien
Submitted by Ninety Mile on Thu, 2016-09-22 09:15As usual willyweather and wind finder are miles apart. Was looking to take a 4.5 tinny to Jurien / Green Head this weekend but not sure if its worth the hassel. Does anyone have a preference between the two? We are pretty capable operators but at the same time dont want to tow a boat up there only to have our backs broken!
Cheers

Shark Bay accomodation & launching advice sought
Submitted by Scoot on Wed, 2016-09-21 13:17Hi guys, I am thinking of taking the family up to Shark Bay at the start of December for a week. I was originally thinking of staying at Nanga however have read / heard some very average reports about the state of the place at the moment so was thinking about basing ourselves in Denham instead. This will also give us the option of heading across to DHI subject to weather or alternatively trailering the boat down to Nanga to hit the pinks.
So I have a couple of questions if those that have fished / stayed in SharkBay could help me with that would be much appreciated.
- Recommendation/s for a good place to rent in Denham (family of 4, parking for 21ft boat)?
- Can you use the ramp at Nanga if you are not staying there? If not, are there any other launch locations towards the bottom of the bay?
- Lastly, for those that have fished the bay at that time of the year (early Dec) what are the pinks like?
Cheers,
Scott

5kg Mulie Shred Block Stolen
Submitted by Mick C on Tue, 2016-09-20 20:49Something with sharp teeth wanted the block, and I wonder if it ate the steel weights too? The widest gape is about 250mm so a bit of size.
Occupational hazard of a “baitfish massacre” burley style in deep water I guess!

Anyone NoR looking for a boat to do cray season on?
Submitted by randall df223 on Mon, 2016-09-19 19:17I have room for one more on my boat for up coming cray season (nov - dec only).
It will be me on board every day, plus i have two others who are both fi-fo so not available all the time.
If anyone has pots and licence but no boat and is prepared to do early mornings out of ocean reef, let me know. Last year it cost us about $30 per fortnight per person for fuel and bait plus $40 each (one off) for parking and we ended up with about 180 crays between 4 of us.
I have two pots, one of the others has at least 1, not sure about the third yet.
Cheers

Crabbing Cockburn Sound- 2016/17 Season: Not looking good!
Submitted by Moking on Mon, 2016-09-19 11:53Have been making enquires with Fisheries,to see if I can enjoy a Crabbing Season this year in Mangles Bay(Cockburn Sound)
Not looking good. There response this morning:
Hi Allan,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Monitoring of the Cockburn Sound blue swimmer crab stock during 2014/15 showed the stock remained at very low levels. It is likely the Fishery will remain closed for the 2016/17.
The Department of Fisheries is currently finalising the 2016 assessment of the Cockburn Sound Crab Fishery. I will email you to advise when the assessment is finalised and a decision has been made with respect to the upcoming season.

Proposed IGFA Rule Change
Submitted by Alan James on Sun, 2016-09-18 16:36I read on another forum that at an IGFA Rules summit held in Florida in July the IGFA rules committee proposed that the current backing rules are revised as follows:
"Add a new subsection that reads:
4. The catch shall be classified under the first five meters of line directly preceding the double line, leader or hook. This section must be comprised of a single, homogenous piece of line.”
Finally a common sense approach.
