Yellowtail/ Scalies
Submitted by surfer on Thu, 2022-04-28 14:39Hey Guys,
Need to save some $$$ and catch my own bait. Any reports or ideas where I can possibly get some yeallowtail or scalies for bait landbased?
Does hillary's hold any yellowtail and/or scalies?
Cheers

leader size for rubys?
Submitted by telferfish on Thu, 2022-04-28 08:34Anyone experienced bite offs while deep dropping for rubys.recently Fished with 120lb leader and was catching decent rubys 10kg+. A couple of times we hooked what felt the same but bigger ones only to be bitten off after a few minutes. question is should I be using heavier leader or is there other sharp tooth critters down there responsible? definatly did not feel like the fish were sharked dropped fish were typical of popped leader or pulled hooks.

Deep dropping with the family
Submitted by deep south on Wed, 2022-04-27 19:23Couple of days dropping with the wife and kids , lots of banter and sledging while we all took our 5 or 10 minutes on the rod
One day on the rubys and the other we went back to an old mark to chase a few 8 bar but after these 2 we called it early and went for a late pub feed

Quick Trip
Submitted by Brock O on Mon, 2022-04-25 19:48Quick trip out yesterday after lunch to get the daughter out for a squid session, weather was pretty sweat so through we try a few drifts on the back of the five. I've had advice on here previously about using the shift function to get a better shot on the right hand side of the screen. This I have struggled with until taking it out of Bottom lock first and using bottom zoom...this let me choose the bottom 5 or 10m etc. Pic attached I have then gone back to bottom lock. Maybe common knowledge for other Furuno users but through I post it anyway....any other tips are always welcome.
Any way, first drop the daughter gets a fright..dad dad, lol. short fight she lands her first Snapper and is pretty chuffed. I then hooked up to a solid fight before losing the rig on 60lb leader....I then went on to drop another fish so we moved in and had a quick look at the seal lazing on carnac before drifting for a few squid.
She pulled this PB before rolling me 4 - 0...such is life. Good arvo on the water.

Does half a fish count
Submitted by plugga25 on Mon, 2022-04-25 13:04
G'day legends
Fishing of Dongara this weekend with 3 on board. Caught a nice dhuie but got sharked and only got back about half the fish.
Only dhu we got but one of the guys asked the question and we couldnt answer it. Saw Fisheries at the ramp, which is always good
to see those guys, so we posed the question to them and they also didnt know the answer so I'm just gonna put it out there.
Does that half fish count towards the bag limit? i would think it does even though a shark got half of it.
Fisheries officer seemed to think maybe not but neither of us would risk the fine if wrong.
What do you legends think?

Salmon Hunter created!
Submitted by Laurie8781 on Fri, 2022-04-22 20:31So my 11 year old nephew and myself went to Albany for a couple of days to try to get him onto his first salmon. He's caught herring and a few tailor but thas it. My sister in law doesn't have a lot of fishing knowledge and time so I offered to go for a run to Albany with him. ( and so I could get into them again...)
Went for drive this afternoon after setting up camp in the cabin to show him Shelly's beach-too windy. Went to the salmon holes and had a look down at the beach. Saw a few tails sticking out of the sand. Said to him, this is why you always bring rods when looking at spots.
First cast with bait and he's on! Was a bit surprised on how much they can fight! Was only a couple of small ones to open the scoreboard but I think he may be hooked on getting bigger fish now!

Rod reccomendation to use with Slammer 3500
Submitted by Holeighmargs on Thu, 2022-04-21 15:19Hey guys,
Finally giving up my oversized reels and broomstick rods for some lighter gear. I was gifted a Penn Slammer 3500 and I would like a reccomendation for a nice graphite rod to match with it, we mainly tinny fish the offshore reefs with bait.
I want some sensitivity and be able to have a bit of fun with it. I have a 5500 also so bonus points if both would suit but mainly want it to match my smaller reel.
Thanks for any help folks :)

Ningaloo/Warroora Camping & Tinny fishing
Submitted by Deano.9 on Wed, 2022-04-20 21:30Hi All,
Mrs is keen to have a get away and Ningaloo popped up in conversation. We tried warroora in Oct' 2016 but was windy all week and retreated to CB.
We are trying to work out what dates suit us but will likely be around late july to early/mid august. We are looking at either Warroora (sandy point or 14mile) or Ningaloo (windabandi & North/South Lefroy). Weather will be what it will be, but hoping we are going to have better luck that our last attempt. Have searched the forum and found plenty of info on the track in; Tinny (375 with 25hp yam) is rooftopper on the camper so will be fine for the journey in.
Main thing I'm looking into is, what fish will be around in the middle of winter? I am keen to troll for mackies, wahoo & even a sail, but being solo it will be a mission... any tips for a tinny soloist? If i can get outside the reef i was going to troll & keep an eye on ground to drop for dermsals at a later date once i have a few marks to check out.
North/South Lefroy: Is it worth heading north or south from main passage (opposite North Lefroy & keeping within the boundarys), or if heading out deeper for bottom fish, what depths should I be aiming for if the weather allows?
Sandy Point/14Mile: Troll to the north behind the reef & what depth to aim for to find some demersals?
Small boat but very confident in the setup & regularly take it to 35-40m off Perth & south coast.
& any general tips for setting up camp for 7-10 days? Water will be our biggest issue...
Cheers!

RATS vs PCR's
Submitted by scotto on Thu, 2022-04-14 09:45yo dudes,
I thought I would start a new thread, rather than hijack Frosty's post.
There is a common repetetive issue with RAT tests, where they are often not showing up positive when youve got Covid. A PCR test is more difinitive and accurate.
Although there a literally thousands of similar cases to this, one of the school dads was crook in a house full of Covid, and repeatedly tested negative on the RATs. A PCR test a few days later confirmed he had the Coco!
Essentially, if the writing is on the wall but the RATs arent coming up positive, go get a PCR.

Buccaneer classic - what do.i need to take up there
Submitted by Xw393 on Tue, 2022-04-12 18:47Hey fishos. I haven't been doing any serious fishing for a few years now due to work, shit roster, and a bit of depression on the side, suddenly I realise I don't know what used to. So to get myself back, I have jumped in with a mate to go up to cockatoo island and have a fish at the buccaneer classic in a few weeks.
Anyone familiar with the area that can give me an idea on what gear I need to take up there to be prepared? Coins not an issue, but time is. Pretty much will just have the tues after Easter to grab what I need before flying up.
I have dusted off my gear so current ammo is demonblood 64cj with 30lb stradic 4000. Tcurve deep jig 200 with 60ish lb saragosa 8000. I will take.my.trusty overheads tyros 20s one with heavy braid one with heavy mono, 24kg backbone for bottom bouncing. Are any of these not suitable to the area?
Any suggestions on a decent trolling oh rod for the other tyrnos too. I have never been a big fan of the 24kg backbone so ideas on a replacement for that one would be good too. Any rods around suitable for bottom and troll?
I have a reasonable swag of jigs for the spin setups, but any particular weight and variety I should stock up on?
Thanks in advance
