3 people needed for jigging trip Sun 5th Dec
Submitted by motty on Sun, 2010-11-28 11:06Hey guys. I have booked out the boat with Mills for a jigging trip on Sunday 5th Dec. WE WILL NOT BE GOING TO THE PATCH. WE WILL BE GOING TO THE BARGES. I really need the last 3 people to make this happen. I promise you it will be a good day. cost will be $220 and this will include jigs for the day (you wont have to buy any jigs at all) Have 12 people so far, but need 3 more. If you bring your own gear, you can fish all day if you want to (or have a rest for a beer or 2). Please send me a PM or reply on here if you are keen. The sambos are now on the chew and are finally hitting the jigs on the barges, and there are some BIG sambos out there. Would be good to catch up and meet some new people from here. The boat will be the Aussie Warrior which is a great boat for jigging and also has large flat screen tv and a kick arse stereo system.
Cheers
Motty

perth weather/winds Sat 4th Dec
Submitted by turts on Sun, 2010-11-28 10:35hi guys coming from interstate for a samson bash heading out on sat 4th dec with bluejuice
had a great time out on the fish last year
checkin the forecast currently has saturday expecting rain
still a week away but does what weather source is the most reliable in regards to wind?
dont mind the rain but often the wind is following it and bit worried it has the potential to be cancelled?
is it still too early to predict the wind forecast???
look forward to the input of you local experienced guys in regards to wind strength/directions to help ease the mind as you can understand the anticipation of bad weather kills you!!
cheers

What size electric motor for tinny?
Submitted by barneyboy on Sun, 2010-11-28 08:29looking at getting a lecky for a 12 foot tinny. Was thinking a 44lb transom mount. Do you think this would be big enough to push it along with 2 adults and the usual fishing gear?

He is keen Diehard that is
Submitted by GrahamM on Sun, 2010-11-28 08:17Gday i managed to get up to club capricorn for the "shark bash" and meet a few more fish wrecked crew. The conditions werent as favourable as the boys would have hoped as there was plenty of weed in the first 10m of water and the boys were bringing in lots of it. The easterly wasnt quite easterly either so made for some hard fishing. ( i didnt fish just onlooked) there were about 12 crew at the time i was there and they were casting and using slide baits trying to avoid the weed. Diehard however got on his surf board and paddled out some baits. bloody Keen if you ask me. he even caught a wave back in. Only took a couple of pics and stayed a couple of hours so i didnt see anything get caught but it was nice too meet a few more crew and have a look.

Offshore Walpole
Submitted by Joodles on Fri, 2010-11-26 20:49Hi guys, as I mentioned in previous post, I'm spending a week over Christmas with my extended family at Rest Point near Walpole. It's what we do every second year. The difference this year is that I'm taking the 6m tinny and not the 3.5m dinghy & whilst I love fishing the inlets there and will be doing it again, I would like to get out wide and see whats biting in more than a few meters. Problem is I have no idea where to go to find some structure. Now I'm not asking for anyone's favourite GPS points, I just need a bit of a steer in the right direction.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers all.

How long does quality gear last in the saltwater??
Submitted by PattyT on Fri, 2010-11-26 18:23Ok, so a mate of mine's boat sunk the other day... with all his gear. We have organised a diver to go out to the boat to salvage the gear (hopefully). Does anyone know how gear goes in the saltwater, is there any chance the gear will still be usable? I've heard arguments for both sides of the coin. Most of the stuff is pretty good shimano and daiwa stuff.
Any information would be great.

swan river extra salty
Submitted by lunker on Fri, 2010-11-26 16:33Reckon it might be a bumper season this year for fishing upstream. I think the winter drought has left the river awfully salty... normally upstream bassendean way doesnt see blowies til feb/march really but they are already out (at least only in small numbers). Heaps of jellyfish too. I was at garvey park today and even saw a big blue manna cruising along the shallows. Never seen one that far up before!
Has anybody else noticed this? I'm thinking it might be an early mulloway season!

Demersal bag limits
Submitted by Aaron Santos on Fri, 2010-11-26 15:01
Hi all,
Was wondering if someone could please explain the demersal bag limit (obviously once the season re-opens.)
If you have 1 licenced fisher in the boat what and how many can you keep, also if you have 2 or more licenced fishers in the boat what and how may can we keep.
My understanding is its 1 dhuey and 1 pinky per fisherman with a max of 2 dhueys for the boat.
If i catch a dhuey and a pinky can i keep anything else?
Just want a sound understanding before it reopens and i get out there.
Cheers..

Hedland fishing cases lead to big fines
Submitted by bod on Fri, 2010-11-26 11:00Hedland fishing cases lead to big fines - Department of Fisheries media release
One of the men, 54-year-old Zainel ALPAN of South Hedland, was also disqualified from holding a Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence for six months.
The Prosecutor had requested the licence disqualification, as it was Alpan’s second serious fisheries offence and it involved a significant breach of bag and size limits.
Alpan was jointly charged, with 71-year-old Daw LAUDER of Katanning, over excess bag limit and possession of undersize fish offences that were uncovered on the afternoon of Sunday 25 July this year (2010), when the pair was apprehended at Finucane Island Boat Ramp.
The men were found with a total of 115 various species of fish (84 over the daily bag limit) and 48 of them were undersize. Each of the offenders was ordered to pay $8164.60 in fines, mandatory penalties and court costs.
In another case, before Port Hedland Court yesterday, 57-year-old Hasbullah BIN ARIFIN of South Hedland was ordered to pay a total of $4119.20 in fines, penalties and court costs for taking 30 spotted javelinfish, in excess of the daily bag limit, found when his vessel was checked by Fisheries and Marine Officers at the Finucane Island Boat Ramp on 8 October this year.
The court also ordered 45-year-old Amer BILTON of South Hedland to pay $2729.20 in fines, penalties and costs for having 11 tropical sea perch more than the bag limit, when he was apprehended at the Finucane Island Boat Ramp on Sunday 11 July this year.
Pilbara-based Supervising Fisheries and Marine Officer Mike Dunne said recreational fishers needed to be aware that bag and size limits were set, to ensure current and future generations could go out and enjoy catching fish and feeding the family.
“The large fines and, in particular, the disqualification of a Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence for one of the offenders, reflects both the Department of Fisheries and local community’s feelings towards fishers who disregard fishing regulations,” Mr Dunne said. “It is very disappointing that some fishers blatantly ignore the rules.
“These convictions are a direct result of people being apprehended by the department’s new mobile compliance teams and a timely reminder that these mobile patrols are out and about checking recreational catches across the State.”

Some information/help for Exmouth 2011
Submitted by Just1morecast on Thu, 2010-11-25 15:36Hey all,
Ive tried using the search function for the past 2 days in order to find some info on Exmouth, but i cant seem to find too much.
So after a year or so getting some boating experience aswell as fishing experience my partner and i are willing to make the first trip to Exmouth.
Over the past few months ive been trying to get some gear together with a basic tld 15 and tld 20 for trolling, 3 heavy pe 6-9 jigging sticks, pe 1-3 stick. Lures, jigs etc. Im also trying to sort out a decent gps plotter aswell as getting our clears redone as its starting to get brittle and one sides zipper is jammed since purchase. My plan of attack now is save say atleast $50-$100 a week until we go.
I guess what info i need are things like:
Any things you found easier on your trips up
Some sort of checklist
Any recommendations on repairs etc to do before leaving
Taking up jerry cans a yes or no
Roughly how much i should really save in terms of $$ for fishing for a week and a half and any other expenses incurred
I will be towing my boat a 4.7m Seaquest and i have a Navara D40 rx 2006
I would rather head up when it isnt school holidays, so what time of year is prone to the better sort of weather
Where do most of you stay, really dont mind bunking in a caravan park and pitching a tent with power
Thanks for any advice as it will all be helpful towards making it a trip to remember for the better
Shabir
