Submitted by brenz on Tue, 2010-12-07 13:26with alll the jokes on egi who would be keen for a friendly comp? i dunno say beleivers vs non beleivers pull together a location that suits all aswell as a day and go from ther with a couple of brews after so as every one can have a chat? could even throw in a little wager for those who are game enough? boat only would be my only thought as many of us can take some deckies

Rotto
Submitted by Pezdog on Tue, 2010-12-07 11:59Hi guys and gals, I'm heading over to Rotto in a couple of weeks and need some advice on fishing Rotto landbased.
Just reading through a few posts and was after any more info. (Not a whole lot of info on here for Rotto LB)
I will be just taking over a little Okuma flick rod and reel combo (8lb I think) and just some sp's, chromies and poppers. After maybe some tailor spots and the like.
Any thoughts on whether it is better to use bait or artificial?
Best spots to try?
Species to target?
Cheers

Help ! I need good advice...
Submitted by Kenoah on Tue, 2010-12-07 01:24Hi,
I am the mother of a little boy, 9 years old, and next week we will travel to your fantastic country and visit the west coast during 3 weeks. My son, Kenzo, is really passionate about fishing. Here in Switzerland he spends most of the summer fishing on the lake and can't wait to fish in the sea while we are in Austalia. Would you be kind enough to answer a few questions:
Does he need to take his equipment with or can he rent it on the coast?
Will be travelling from Perth to Monkey Mia. Are there any club, schools or private people with whom he could fish? If yes do you have a list of addresses and phone numbers?
Can a 9 year old child fish without permit from the coast? (without enterring into the sea). And on a boat?
Thank you very much for your help,
Best regards,
Marielle

!!!we did it today!!!
Submitted by fisho-ron on Mon, 2010-12-06 17:47well,
they said it could not be done, boat a shark from the barges!!!
heres proof it can be done!!
headed out with a couple of mates on my boat, crushed and hoookt on the crusher for another day of punishment?
hit the south barge first up with a nice amber taken on a live squid
(the guy with the beard is the $100 bet man and he also payed up, for those who know) but he did land the first fish for the day.
moved on to checkout the other wrecks with many hookups and all busted off, so it was decided to try to get the sharks instead, but didnt plan on using my new xzoga and daiwa exerler.
got him to the boat twice and he wasnt ready just yet, on the third time we had him!! just as i was going to cut the line to release he went on another run and broke my reel, the drag whashers were shot by now anyway so we had to release him this time.
would of been all of 2.5mtrs.
yes i am having a rest in the pic, it was hard work.
after that it was time to move on to some shallow ground for sambos and all we got was small pinkys, 6 in the end as well as a sgt baker and a sea sweap.
good to meet daz out there as well, sorry daz not much time for talking with the shark on.. how did you end up for the day?
also good to meet marko,(hoookt) top guy and welcome with me anytime mate.
here are a few pics from today.

Exmouth/ Coral Bay Caravan Park
Submitted by dallasthedog on Mon, 2010-12-06 13:26
Me, wife and 12 month old baby girl are thinking of heading up to Coral Bay/ Exmouth with the Hilux and an Apex camper at the beggining of March for 1 month. We would like to stay at a powered camp site. I can see 2 caravan parks in Coral Bay; Bayview and People's Park.
I guesss what i wanted to know was:
1. Which carvan park is the best for a nice shady spot and grassed area (should we continue up to Exmouth?), and
2. On the way up between Perth and Coral Bay/ Exmouth are there any caravn parks that are great and would be worth while having a couple of nights at?
Thanks for your help

Lots of laughs, lots of weed - not many fish on Fishwrecked 4WD adventure
Submitted by Colin Hay on Sun, 2010-12-05 18:39A convoy of nine cars of Fishwrecked members, families and friends headed up the coast to meet up for a 4wd and fishing weekend on Saturday to the north of Two Rocks.
We followed the long and winding road to Loonies, only to find that the coastline was awash with seaweed.
I don't think I have seen much worse conditions due to the amount of weed that filled the waters for as far as you could see.
Not to be daunted, the intrepid adventurers (after a few small incidents involving bogged cars and such) set up camp near a prime location.

Out came the fishing gear and the keen anglers hit the water, but it soon became apparent that the weed was going to be the winner.
After several hours of pulling in several tonnes of weed it was decided it was time to cook up a feed and then settle down around the fire to have afew dinks, tell have a few yarns, have a lot of laughs and discuss our hopes that things would be better in the morning.

Highlights of the evening was Uncle Stus quality fire, his dacking of Graham M, some friendly banter across the fire and then a short tussle between Graham M and a stingray that was lost when many kilos of weed attached itself to Graham's line.
The next morning looked just about perfect wind wise for some fishing action, but unfortunately the weed situation had not improved.
Uncle Stu managed a few herring, while the rest of tried our luck for some tailor - but it was not to be.
While the fishing was disappointing, I am sure that all who participated had a lot of fun and are looking forward to the next time we head up that way.
Thanks Sherbs for organising the day and thanks everyone who participated.
What a great bunch of people (and dog).

Curse is lifted!
Submitted by Goodz on Sun, 2010-12-05 18:09Well the curse has been lifted from fisho-ron's boat in regards to hooking up fish! However, the curse of the sharks on the barges still hasn't. I didn't realise just how bad the shark situation was until I saw it for myself. Won't be in a rush to get back out there thats for sure, waste of fish and gear! Was still good to have a few short lived tussles today and watching Ron put in a good effort of shark fishing with his 150lb Tiagra set up! How's the back Ron? Thanks for the trip out anyway mate!

What a difference two weeks makes
Submitted by soupster51 on Sun, 2010-12-05 11:03Some of you might remember my post from a couple of weeks back when I was part of the team that won the local tournament. It was really shite weather but we managed to come up with the goods. Well yesterday was another tournament day and I couldn't use my boat, issues with insurance - it's a long story...... Anyway I went out with a mate in his 'island' boat and the weather was great. Minimal swell, minimal wind, the sun was out and best of all no rain this time. Worst of all though, no fish this time. We did manage to get my first ever trolled trout so that was a plus. Oh well, you can't win them all.

Snook, Eating Quality
Submitted by Man Overboard on Sun, 2010-12-05 09:09As titled, what are the eating qualities of the humble snook.
I just watched a FWA episode where Nick Hocking caught one and then described it as smelling like Kerosine.
Now i have caught them in the past but always gave them to my old Ding Mate who loved them, also i saw a couple of old codgers in Busso once come in with an esky full, back in the days when the old wooden jetty next to the Big one was operating. Well they were stoked with their catch.
So what do they taste like, or do you only use them for bait ?

Storing demersal jigs
Submitted by Just1morecast on Sat, 2010-12-04 15:09Just wondering what most ppl have for storing there demersal jigs. By this i mean the ones that are a lil harder to fit into the normal fish shape jigbags....lucanus, submarines, pirates, fankys etc etc. Or just easier to purchase the standard hard plastic style containers.
Also i've heard of ppl storing all jigs (fish shaped..shout, searocks etc) rigged but without hooks to help with storage aswell as to not get hooked out on the ocean when getting them out on a bouncy boat. Do you mean rig them with the swivel and split? Then have a few assist's to ring's in tackle box ready to put straight to the split out there?
Less than two weeks for the demersal season opening, so excited to use all the good advice ive got off here and new jigs. Hoping by the next closure i can fulfill the dream of a big dhuie

What to do with your boat during a cyclone
Submitted by pale ale on Sat, 2010-12-04 12:30I have recently purchased a 6.5m Signature and dont have a suitable garage to hide it away from cyclones.
What do you guys do to protect your boat through a cyclone. Just concrete tie downs or are there any other tricks?
With my tinnie, I just put 200 litres of water in it to stop it blowing away.
Looks like I've got some concreting to do!
