just wanted to ask a quick few questions.

after just getting back from a recent trip with a few mates and landing a few decent rays (1 of which was easily 150kg and taking a 650m run) and a few little sharks. i have decided i would like to get a decent l/b game setup.

i would like to use my spheros 14000fb but would like to put the 18000 spool on it. is this possible?

also after a decent l/b game spin rod to match it up with. budget is around 200-300.

any help would be much appreciated

Hey guys have some up north trips planned next year and in need of a popping casting rod. The reel im thinkin will be a stella 8000 or 10000 with a 16000 SOM spool with pe 8 line... I dont want to be buyin the bestt one out there as it will only be used once or twice a year. Any suggestions :)

Hi all

During last weekend's fishing trip out from the Cut, we caught a few decent sized wrasse...mainly the Western King (red variety) but also a couple of the Brown Spotted, too. As we weren't sure about their eating qualities, we erred on the side of caution and returned them to the water. Enjoyed the fight on light gear, especially from the bigger ones.

Are these fish considered 'table fish'...as they don't get a mention in any of the West Coast Region Recreational Fishing Guide's 'Risk Species' regarding bag limits or minimum size, I'm guessing that they aren't too sort after.

Your thought or comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Just chasing some quality opinions regarding flushing of the outboard motor. Whats happening is at Christmas I'm going down to Walpole for our family holiday and I'm taking the boat, hopefully to get out the back this time aswell as capitalizing on the brilliant inlet fishing there is to be had down there. Now although I've been fishing my whole life and boating for most of it, I've never been in the situation where the boat will stay in the water for 6 days straight. I just have a concern for the donk as it's allways been flushed out at the end of each day on the blue. The freshwater facilities at Rest Point are limited so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the issue of not flushing the outboard after 6 continious days in salty water? Is it the case that consistant use prevents corrosion buildup?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

has any one tried slam bait soft plastic lure, they look similar to berkley gulp and are both biodegradable with scent. I use gulp a crap load and was wondering if they have the same hit rates as the gulps. I was wondering if they are any good on demersal fish like snapper, due, black ass etc.

Hi all.

It's been a few years now that I've been logging onto and reading about all the stuff that goes on within the website but I've finally become a member and hope to meet and fish/scuba with a few more in the community. Seems very odd writing the first post to you all as I feel that I know a few of you reasonably well through reading your posts over the time so here's a bit of backgound for you all about me.

I've been in Perth now for about 7-8 years of which, only really being into fishing for the last 3 years or so. Been out with a few of the crew here including Simon C (quite a bit actually and got me addicted), Sam and even Adam once when in Exmouth but really only just learning the ropes. I am a little lucky to have a business that has provided me with enough cash/time to be able to really get into the boating side of fishing/diving in a hurry and enjoy it so I'll be happy to look out for people looking for deckie spots when I head out. In saying that, I'm pretty keen to hit the water on nearly nothing notice and especially keen to do some diving for crays with ANYONE that can teach me how to actually get my hands on one of the little suckers!

I'm a MASSIVE seafood lover and happy to eat a fresh fish any day of the week however, I also am very pro fishing for the future and am one of the guys who thinks licences and smaller bag limits aren't an issue. If there's anything going on to save our fishing future, I'd love to learn more about it and really think that sites like Fishwrecked are a great source of information and idea sharing.

Hope I can get involved in some of the discussions and I'm pretty sure I know the difference between a Pink Snapper and a silver bream - good start i think!

Looking at upgrading my 10Ft ugly stick which ive had for about 20yrs & ive caught many Tailor so its served me well, im looking for a couple of beach set ups that will last as long as the last one has ,I will have to buy two as the scon burner wants one also.

So if anyone can give me any tips on whats worth buying at the moment that would be great as we aim to hit the beaches for overniters over the next few weeks to try our luck for some Tailor/herring e.t.c

We have never fished North of the river so we are looking at going Yanchep / Two Rocks way or even Lancelin so any info that i can get from here regarding safe beach camping with easy 4wd access to the beach would be appreciated also.

Went out on the weekend and stayed overnight out in some cozy bay.

Mission of the trip, Catching a trout trolling! Mission result NADA. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but changed lures from Halcos, Rapala's, R2S trihos, and colours but especially the trusted gold pattern Halco with only 3 Undersize trout for a hell of trying. Got some bycatch like a thumping Mick jagger trevor etc.

Was using 60lb fluoro leader straight onto 30lb braid, trolling as slow as the boat will go. Covered very likely country on the sounder with bommies ranging from 10-4m, and lucky sometime to not loose a lure to the shallow stuff. Boat speed about 2.7-3knots, with Withdoc in tow about 8m off the back. Port lure 15m back, StarB lure 20m back.

Was I just unlucky or am I doing something wrong.

Interested in comments because mission was trout only, so didnt even bottom bash.

Just curious to what sort of gear people using for jigging-fishing  the barges.... what pound braid, and type of braid , reels , leader etc....I was out at the barges saturday and noticed alot of people getting smoked including myself and 2 others in my boat,we were using what i thought was pretty decent gear 50lb fireline,100lb blackmagic leader and all had decent reel,rod combos

still managed to land quite a few but also lost shitloads of gear great day tho lol

any feedback would be great.
