Mustad tainawa hooks WTF did mustad do to them
Submitted by cruzy111 on Wed, 2019-04-03 16:45Been using these hooks for the last 20 odd years and have managed to bend a total of three hooks one on a massive marlin and two on big cod. Bought a box last year and have bent about 30 of them and on fish as small as 2kg spangos. The turned in part of the circle is folding over under little pressure so not hooking up. I thought it was a one off but I got a few out of a another box the other day that someone just bought and same thing first one hook up and drop fish after a bit of a run hook comes back bent like a banana.

How did I bend these hooks?
Submitted by nebbian1 on Tue, 2019-04-02 22:24I'm just getting into jigging for demersals, and had my first go at it on the weekend.
Dropped the jig and wiggled it around a few times, and then hooked up to a good size salmon (near the bottom, in 30m, wtf?)
It shook the hooks loose at the surface, so I dropped again and hooked up to another salmon. Again, this one got off at the surface.
I had a look at the hooks after this, and both of them were bent.

How did I bend these hooks? My drag was set to 4 kg, I don't remember the fish ever pulling drag, and these hooks are supposedly good for 35 lb (15 kg). So what. the. f.
I don't think I can trust these hooks if I hook up to a big dhuey now.

New Demersal Boat Limit Rules
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2019-04-01 09:44Just got an email from Fisheries saying that as of July 1 the boat limit of 2 dhus will be changed to 1 dhu per person however there will now be a limit of 4 demersal fish per boat.
I could probably live with that but some of the lads with bigger boats might be a tad upset with this.

Navigational Issue at Herring Bay?
Submitted by Captain Grumpy on Sun, 2019-03-31 20:19Spent the day at Garden Island with the kids.
In the span of 3 hours this afternoon, I watched 6 boats hit the reef(s) adjacent Herring Bay at Garden Island. Two boats were considerable size launches (one of which limped back to Port under escort from Sea Rescue) the rest were trailer boats. As a personal observation, I have noticed that Boats hitting this same patch of reef happens with some regularity.
My question is: due to the amount of boats hitting the reef at Herring Bay; are the navigational markers sufficient? Or; do they need to be upgraded Or; do skippers need to pay better attention to markers and reef area?
Happy to hear others thoughts on this.
cheers

Brunswick/Capel redfin
Submitted by luke george on Wed, 2019-03-27 10:12Hi guys I'm chasing some info on redfin in the Capel and brunswick. Planning on taking the kayak for a paddle and would mainly like to know if I'm looking at the right areas in regards to freshwater (not interested in bream/mulloway etc). Pretty much have the same idea for both spots. Head into town, launch under the road bridge and paddle upstream. Pretty confident brunswick will be fresh but Capel seems a bit close to the river mouth?

Mandurah Fishing Autumn

Daiwa Braid Diameter
Submitted by Lim Chee Boon on Sat, 2019-03-23 09:01Hi,
I am a bit confused about the diameter of Daiwa's J-Braid. Seem different package got different diameter in the same weight class.
60lb - 0.28mm
65lb - 0.41mm (only extra 5lb)
80lb - 0.35mm (thinner than 65lb)
So how I choose? Which is correct indicater of diamter?
