Fishing Discussion
Your thoughts.
Submitted by Deckie on Tue, 2017-06-20 17:41Hi Folks,
chasing your thoughts & opinions on an older hull.
A 5.6m Pacemaker with a 115Hp Yammy 2 stroke compared with a 5.6m Voyager with a 145Hp 2 stroke Merc.
I know the Merc is bigger but mainly interested in the hull comparison for ride & strength.
Appreciate your input.

support - non fishing 2nd attemp
Submitted by brown364 on Tue, 2017-06-20 16:47Hello fello fishos,
Admin feel free to delete if required .
learnings from last attemp; dont post from phone as it is a challenge . 2nd learning; dont be a twat and try it again from the phone and fail, wasting more time!
I was writing to remind all out there that this friday is purple bra day which is fundraising for the Breast cancer care WA. Our family found out the hard way with my wife being diagnosed 11 months ago at the age of 33 years young. Since we were drawn into this space i was amazed to see/hear of the amount of young women and families going through this as I grew up thinking it was an older person illness.
Fortunatly my wife is now doing well and probably strong enough to outfish me again! We were very fortunate to have the support from Breast Cancer Care WA throughout the wash of surgery and treatment with small things that make a big differance.
So this is where i ask if anyone out there is in a position to support then please do and those who cant or dont want to, thanks for taking the time to read my dribble.
All this month we are donating $5 from every job in our business and if you want , you can go to our website www.amanathand.com.au and there is a link for purple bra donations or just go direct to Breast Cancer Care WA.
Thanks in advance peeps!
Regards
Leon

Northerly current
Submitted by Ericl on Tue, 2017-06-20 08:55Was out yesterday in amazing conditions in areas on the 40 metre contour, but the Northerly current was absolutely ripping. We anchored using our newly installed Minn Kota trolling motor and it was like anchoring in a fast flowing channel. Baits ended up 20 metres befind the boat even though we were locked in with the Minn Kota. Fishing was very slow with almost no bites and baits were coming up untouched even though we were seeing heaps on the sounder. Only managed one nice baldie for the day and released 3 small dhuies and 1 small pinky. Did anyone else out there yesterday experience similiar ?

Releasing fish when Gut hooked
Submitted by Curndog on Sun, 2017-06-18 19:47he guys,
anyone know what the best thing to do is when you gut hook a fish? Gut hooked a good dhu today but was already at quota. Hooked with gang hooks as I was anchored trying to catch pinkies. If I tried to get hooks out probably would of just fucked him up so decided to cut the line at the top hook. Thought it could give him a fighting chance. Really disappoints me when this happens just feels so wasted. Any thoughts or advice would be good. Cheers

Hillarys Dhus
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2017-06-17 20:36Took my brother out today to hit some promising ground we sounded out in the 40s two weeks ago and there were fish down there but we couldn't even raise a bite. Tonnes of birds smashing so we chucked out the bird exciter and trolled a deep diver and a jelly baby and even went straight through a basketball size bustup and couldn't hook up. Tried a few more coral patches around the 40-43m mark and it was looking like another one of those days. 2.5 hours fishing without a decent bite.
It was 4:30 by this stage so we decided to head back to the 3 Mile in time for sunset and berley up for snapper but I made a quick detour via the spot in the 30s we caught some Sgt Bakers on our last trip and where the Mrs and I caught a tonne of undersized snapper and a nice Blackarse.
Drove over it and the screen lit up like Ben Cousins on a glass pipe so we set the drift and I was onto a decent fish only to lose it from a cut line. I think I was gilled raked.
Set up a second drift and I was on again and my bro was on too and I pulled up a dhu double header 46 and 52 and he pulled up a 58. We had our bag but with the dhus on the chew I threw caution to the wind and released both mine and chucked on a Lamble and went round again and after about 5 jigs I was on again and after a decent fight I raised a 71cm beauty.
Amazing how you can go from boiled lollies to choclates in the blink of an eye out there!

leaving fuel in underfloor tank
Submitted by maldugs on Sat, 2017-06-17 20:17Hi, have never had a boat with an underfloor tank but have one now, I have around half a tank (30 lt) of premium unleaded, sitting in my boat tank and have not been out in the boat for 5 weeks, but have ran the motor on rabbit ears in between, do I drain the tank if I am not going to use the boat for a while, or just top up with fuel next time I take the boat out?
Mal.

Quick trip to Shark Bay
Submitted by Tom M on Sat, 2017-06-17 15:35A quick trip to Shark Bay last week got 3 days of fishing in albeit 1 very sloppy day. Managed some good catches out from Denham. First day a few snapper, 2nd day some big black snapper among some NW snapper and much the same the 3rd day. But on the 3rd day caught and released 5 Mulloway all about the same size on one spot within and hour. Did not land a size Pinky which was unusual, plus a 5 meter tiger shark checking the boat out, guess thats why its called shark bay. Check out the Aquarium out if up there and not fishing interesting place.

Yamaha Outboard parts , repair advice needed
Submitted by hunterdive on Sat, 2017-06-17 14:47hi guys,
My Tinny motor - Yamaha 30cv 2 stroke recently got a bit warm and has scored the bores and pistons. That said, I have it all apart and want some advice where to go from here.
Can anyone recommend a Yamaha dealer that I can source new part from? Is it easier to get a whole new 'short motor as both barrels are scored and the damage too deep to hone. They will need to be machined or replaced. Same goes for the pistons.
I am happy to do the work myself if I can source all the correct parts, but want it to be worth my while. I think I can get a brand new motor for under $3000. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
regards
Jared

pre tax super rant
Submitted by Shane O on Sat, 2017-06-17 11:50not fishing related...
The government are modern day thieves, where do they get off reducing the pre tax amount to a limit of $25000. How do they expect you to like comfortably in retirement??
My guess is they don't want to many people with freedom..

Carnarvon Fishing
Submitted by mradburnd on Fri, 2017-06-16 23:13Hi all.
I will be moving to Carnarvon in early July and was just wondering if anyone can give me some information on what the fishing is like? I will be taking a 4.85m boat. Is there much fishing just offshore or do you need to head all the way to the islands? Also, are the islands clear enough to dive and to spear or is the water still murky?
Any advice, tips or potential fishing buddies would be much appreciated as I don't know anyone up there.
Thanks in advance.

Fishing tommorow
Submitted by S.Cotchin on Fri, 2017-06-16 07:51after some opinions on fishing tommorow, Perth metro
swell looks quite big out wide but not too bad behind 3 mile to rotto
wind seems ok all day.
my plan is to head out early and fish behind 3 mile for snapper until sun comes up.
also any one know of salmon still being caught around mewstones ?
if swell seems a bit suss to head out deeper once sun comes up, Mewstones will be my back up plan for a bit of fun.
good luck too any one else heading out tommorow morning.
looks like today is the day but there is a thing that sucks called work...
cheers Steve.

Ruffazz
Submitted by Mick C on Thu, 2017-06-15 21:26Good on Steve and Co. for giving it a crack and setting up Ruffazz NT Fishing Charters & Tours (http://www.ruffazzfishing.com.au). It was excellent to work with Ruffazz to produce their team shirt, that was delivered last week.

The shirts have been well received by all, and we have just designed the draft singlet to “partner” the long sleeve version.

Shore Catch design and production speciality is short run custom fishing shirts. Price averages at $55-$60 each, and a one off $200 design fee for less than 20 items.
Because we manufacture locally in Perth, and have a good long-term working relationship with our designers and manufacturers, we can now offer this specialist product to market.
Please contact us if interested.
