Fishing licence fees to increase from july 8
Submitted by meglodon on Wed, 2017-06-28 22:35Did every body see the big announcement about the fishing licence fees to increase by $5.00 as from July 8.
No
Well you would have to have looked hard to find the notification about the increase in all fees, it was hidden away towards the back of my local news paper this brings up the cost of each licence to $45.00 and a fishing from boat licence to $35.00.
This is the first increase in 7 years so I guess that's not to bad.
I think it's just a shame that this increase wasn't given a more prominent place in the paper and I haven't seen anything in the West Australian news paper about the increase. I don't have a gripe against the rise, 7 years without an increase isn't doing to bad I think.

Boat fishing tag along?
Submitted by smp on Wed, 2017-06-28 09:01Hi all
I'm relatively new to Perth and at some point in the future would be keen to get a tinnie and head out for some boat fishing. Meanwhile wondering if anyone has any space their boat to gain experience, get some good fishing and boating advice etc etc? Happy to contribute to fuel / boat costs etc and help out in any way I can be useful?
Cheers

New Boat Build - Genesis 730xl transducer time ..
Submitted by Australiamaid on Tue, 2017-06-27 20:42
G'day everyone,
I dont normally write too much on here but I will give it a crack. After much procrastinating and a lot of indecision I have recently ordered a custom boat to be built by GenesisCraft and am hoping to document the build on here for all to enjoy.
After initial consultation with numerous boat builders I felt immediately comfortable dealing with Matt at Genesis, nothing has been a drama or too much of a hassell. He was only too happy to get a quote out to me late on christmas eve and even said to call over the chrissy break if needed. Fast forward six months and this great customer service has not waivered at all. Another selling point to me was the quality of work which was second to none - I could not fault a thing (myself being a welder trust me I looked hard).
Boat overview:
730xl Hard top with custom ally Genesis trailer
250 Yamaha - will be fitted further down the track
sounders - two 12 in simrads ..transducers
Anyway pics of work to date and will post updates as I get them. Cheers
5/07/17 - updated pics attached below.
11/7/17- 2 new pics boat upside down . hopefully the last.....
20/7/17 . started trailer ... this is going to be one tough trailer.
26/7/17. transom pics an a few others
31/7/17 . this weeks progress...really happy got these pics. had to have a beer or more...
2/8/17 . went up to have a look only 1 pic more to come. boys were busy with bow rail an overhead console..
12/8/17. boat on trailer what a good sight
6/10/17 . boat painted

Another diesel outboard
Submitted by crano on Tue, 2017-06-27 20:31This is a diesel outboard on the back of a barge on an island off northern fiji. Aparently it is chinese and they reckon it uses a teaspoon of diesel an hour.
The photo of the boys moving the barge is there just because it is a cool photo.

Ebay Boat Covers
Submitted by Bucko on Tue, 2017-06-27 10:57I know this topic has been done before, but these cheap e-bay products seem to change all the time.
Has anyone used the Kaiser brand boat covers like this one:
For $200 odd bucks, its pretty cheap for a cover on a 6.7m boat.
If I could get 2 years out of it, I would be happy.
Anyone got any feedback on these?
Cheers

Simrad Transducer
Submitted by Dazza 78 on Mon, 2017-06-26 19:09Hi all,
Im new here and have been having some issues with my tranny for my Simrad NSS9 Evo 2 for the past 2 years
I have had a HDI skimmer 50-200-455-800. I could never get this one to work very well even when I have had professionals adjust the positioning.
I end up selling this and replaced with the TM150, having same problems with this one. It works well in shallow water (2-13m) even when travelling around 20 knots, when out deeper 30-60m it is pretty much useless unless im doing 2 knots.
Im starting to think maybe the hull is producing air ?? its a Formosa tomahawk 580.
I have been told from a dealer that if I upgraded to a 1KW tranny that it will work heaps better as they are not so sensitive to air.... I have looked at the TM260 but cant afford to buy a module as well as this tranny, thoughts if this will work better than what I have without the module and will this one just have air pass under it too... ( I fish up to 120m at the moment)
Other thoughts was buying a through hull tranny but not sure which one and not sure on drilling holes in my hull.
I have looked at the P79 at this stage, not sure weather the brass one would be a good match for an ali hull

Spiderwire
Submitted by Boyce on Mon, 2017-06-26 18:24Hey guys
Looking to respool my 25000 saragosa
Was looking at spiderwire stealth but cant find anywhere that sells it
Was chasing 80lb in a 1500yd roll (enough for a couple spare refills)
Chose this as the 80lb has diameter smaller than 65lb powerpro
If anyone has any info on places that stock it, or any alternate suggestations of line that has a similarly small diameter
Need to get at least 500m on it
Thanks in advance

Collie redfin?
Submitted by choc on Mon, 2017-06-26 12:28Hi Guys
Anyone fished the Collie near Minninup Pool? Went there on Sunday for a look and thought it would be a good spot to take the kids in a canoe. Just wondering if there are any redfin in this area? Had a quick search and theres one post from a few years ago saying there was some but have had some dry winters since.
Any help would be appreciated.

Pays to Check your Safety Gear
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2017-06-26 11:23I've been struggling to reach VJ6LQ inside the marina and had shocking reception outside the marina mouth a couple of trips back but it's still been fine otherwise albeit a bit scratchy.
Went to radio in last trip 13 miles out to extend my return time and nothing but radio silence and I managed to get them after driving halfway back in. Not a nice feeling.
Decided I'd replace my antenna and I started removing it and the cable completely pulled loose and was completely corroded. It must have been hanging by a couple of wires.
Valuable lesson: if something isn't 100% then investigate it.

Finally after three months of no fishing !
Submitted by D_d_001 on Mon, 2017-06-26 10:29Well after a big break in fishing due to a bad neck injury, (didn't get my pots in for April/May crays and a cancelled boys trip north.....lets call that postponed !) thought I'd be good enough for a trip out in the sound and back of Garden island for hopefully a few whiting.
Was chilly but fantastic to be on the water again. Stopped over north GI for a few squid for some bait. Picked up a couple and a cuttly including the nice specimen below. Hood on this one went 26cm. (not a world record but still a nice size.
Headed out the back of GI and in a gentle easterly breeze was beautiful on the water. tried a couple of spots for nothing then out to a bit deeper .....nice sand on the sounder and within 5 minutes we had boated half a dozen. Did a few more drifts over the area had a ball on the light gear pretty well every drop.
Back into the sound for a few more drifts over some of the weed to finish off the "dinner plate" with some calamari and home again.
Might take me a few more months before I can handle bashing out deep again but had forgotten just how much fun light gear and fishing could be so just happy to get back out there.

Sniffing Mulloway
Submitted by Fathom on Sun, 2017-06-25 18:10Chatting to a mate today about catching Mulloway and I said, "me and the ol man can smell them at times in the shallower waters". A quick google says that it's possible if you know the smell. Anyone else here can sniff out a Mulloway? Why do you think it's possible?
Maybe they are releasing an attractant or rubbing off some slime, but you can definately smell them

Thru hull in Signature
Submitted by crano on Sun, 2017-06-25 14:55Got a 600RF Haines Signature and want to put in a wet box. The only place I can see that I might be able to do it is under where the batteries sit up on a platform. I don't know what is under there and whether it would be possible.
Has anybody here tried this or know of anywhere else I could fit one in a Signature ?

Help with dragonfly 6 sounder/gps
Submitted by Hazzadazzlaa on Sun, 2017-06-25 10:15Hi Everyone, (raymarine Dragonfly 6 green plug)
My unit is 1.5 years old and has stopped working and out of warranty(1 year only). If i press the button to turn it on i just hear a beep and screen remains black. I have done a little googling and also rang raymarine. It is either the pins which are fine from inspection or the main power/ transduscer wiring that is faulty (as per tech raymarine).
Anyway options are throw in the bin and get a new one.
Buy a new cable/transducer $150 and hope that was the issue.
I can send the unit to raymarine but have to pay for tech and postage(not keen im stubborn unit should be working after 1.5 years not abused well looked after).
Or if possible if anyone has this unit with the green plug whether i could meet with them somewhere and just plug it in and diagnose if the cable/wiring was the issue and then i'll know for sure.
If anyone is able to help please pm me and i will be very grateful.
Will obviously sort out with carton of beer of choice.
If not no worries happy fishing and i will bin the unit and replace with another brand, any recommendations around the $1000 mark must have sounder/gps combo and preferrably touch screen.
Thanks Harry

Gnaraloo report 2017
Submitted by sea-kem on Sat, 2017-06-24 15:05So a bit of a delayed report but here it is.
As with other reports lately the wind was a big killer for us but we managed to get the first two days in and it was action packed, the fish were on the chew everywhere we went. It's a shame we couldn't have had a third day to top it off. Anyway as the pics show below a PB Baldy for me of 4.8kg and a PB Rankin of 9.5KG on Plastic with my Gomoku and 4k Stella. We caught 9 reds in two days and as you can see an assortment of other things. The Macks were red hot just out of the bay and one of thos efunny stories where the boys in the other boat were about to pull their jet lure out of the water when it got taken by about a 10 kg Spaniard.
Good to see fellow memeber Nick82 up there with his mate Shane0, he's a bloody charachter Nick if you're reading this. The boys came up for beers about 4.30 one arvo and left around 10 lol so it was shrivelled Lasagna for tea, but a top talking, drinking and laughing Sesh.
We took my mate's dad Peter up there who's never done this kind of fishing before and it blew him away. He had some awesome yarns to tell about his travels as I think he's visited just about every station up this coast.
Went for a big walk around the station dumping grounds and the workshop areas etc, it's a real shame that the place is so run down and really needs a big clean up and some TLC
Anyway it's booked again for next year and I'll keep going back there as it's in my opinion the best fishing this state has to offer. It takes a bit of an effort to get in there and is hard on the car and boat trailer, but if you prepare well you'll have no dramas.
