Craypot puller for aluminium boat

Is there anyway, other than using muscle power, to use mechanical assistance to lift craypots with a 6.7m aluminium boat?

Any advise

Gday not sure if I'm doing something wrong or the Crays are not moving out of garden island but I'm fishing around Hawleys shoal and out a mile or so from there dropping the pots in the sandy patches as I've been told ther are other pots in the vicinity but noticed a lot more in a bit closer am I too far out at the moment ? We did get one nice big red thismorning 1.5 kg from the two pots further out but no whites . Any help for a fist timer from the Kimberly would be much appreciated . Thanks guys

Saragosa vs Sustain?

 Hey everyone

I was looking for a 6000 size reel for bottom bouncing and things like that, I have done my research on the Sustain and the Saragosa, I was just wondering what you guys would choose out of these to? and if the 6000 is too big or small?

Cheers

Toyota V8

This is a warning to those of you that have one, when the oil filter is removed from its housing a sleave that the filter sits on can come away with the filter.

If the person is not aware of  this sleave and the new filter is installed into the housing ,the filter can be sucked in on its self .

This has happened to my car after doing 1000k after the service, causing major engine failure.

Shocking Customer Service

I've been to the same specialty boating store 5 times now and 4 out of those times have left me shaking my head with the atrocious customer service I have received with the one good time resulting from me buying something and just paying cash with no question but still getting my purchase cut off mid purchase while he chatted to someone who'd just walked through the door about some yacht club. Everytime I go there I could walk around all day without anyone approaching me to see if I need any help and when you do approach them they are visibly annoyed from dragging them away from doing SFA at the front counter or stacking shelves.

This was my experience today and I'll post up the others later if I can be bothered. I can guarentee that all of my enquiries were asked politely as apart from always interacting that way I was hoping for some advice/solutions.

I took up a mooring line and starting saying that the previous one I bought was too short and before I could even finish he is shaking his head so I stop talking and he proceeds to lecture me about how you need two ropes. I tell him I've been managing with one just fine albeit a bit short and he cuts me off again and says that it's dangerous to use one rope and I need to use two. I enquired what was dangerous about it and get "look mate, I've got a 7m Leeder and I've always used two ropes". I start to say how I loop the rope around the plyons and again I get cut off saying it is dangerous to use two rope... I never foudn out why he thinks it's dangerous.

I then said I have a Furuno 627 and a Humminbird that I'm using as a chartplotter and want to network them together and again he cuts me off and says the best thing I can do is "bury the Humminbird unit in a shallow grave". After I equired about what plotter I could network to the Furuno he grabs the magazine and after flicking through says I need to give Taylors a call as they hang onto all the good ones.

I mistakingly had one more question about setting up lighting on the boat for night fishing and said that I was looking at two lights in the rocket launchers, a flood light for navigating and some lights in the cabin. Again I get cut off and he asked why I want lights pointing backwards to which I reply I want to be able to see the rod tips and he looks at his mate behind the counter and laughs and says "aren't you supposed to feel the fish" to which I replay "not if I've got more than one rod in the water". He then takes me to the bargain bin and fishes out some tiny light and suggests that that's all I need for the front of the boat.

Just to finish it all off he looked at my work shirt as I was shopping in my lunch break and he actually made a derogitory comment about the organisation I work for.

It was at this point I paid for my mooring line and left shaking my head at yet another shocking experience.

The only reason I've kept going back is because I regularly visit a client in Leederville but now I'll be shopping elsewhere rather than disturb a bunch of grumpy old men who are either awaiting retirement or death and appear to loathe customers.

Dead pinks 2

Washing up on shore now in front of my work. Just took this then. There gills look burnt. This one not that long dead. Thought it was seal. More washing up. This is not looking good for stocks at all. A good 12 plus kilo female in picture

1 pot

Only had to pull1 today. 2 limits easy. Big whites.

Morning balloon

Me and a mate are heading out tomorrow morning to send a couple of balloons out in the sound, and to test some new balloon rigs / ideas. Has anyone else seen any pelagics out there ? Not targetting any one thing in particular, but just interested to see what others have been getting into lately from the many groynes and jetties. Saw a bloke land a big gummy the other afternoon near Woodies, and I met a bloke who reckons he picked up 2 small tunas (not sure which type) from land in the sound the other morning. Guess we gonna have to cross fingers and look for birds and asee what happens. Cheers.

Dead snapper

Not sure if my pics are there still working it out ?

Please Explain

Hi everyone went out to bait the pots this morning after a week up north working and three days not being able to get out due to the weather fingers crossed might get a feed tomorrow , trying to get the hang of the way things work down here after 25 years in Broome . But I was shocked this morning coming back in on the inside of garden island to see at least a dozen huge big pink snapper floating on the surface after only three day ago attempting to get out seeing a massive school finning on the surface looking very healthy is this something that happens or is is the water toxic in Cockburn sound ?? And affecting the fish and crabs .

for discussion - interferring with gear

The situation.  This morning we are checking our pots and come across a cray rope without floats, the end floating on the surface.  Its a hazard to boaties.   We mark its location and tie a (cheap) spare life jacket on the end.

I reported its location to fisheries.

They have been out and recovered my life jacket.  Loaded the rope on the winch and start to pull and the bridle has snapped.  Pot is stuck and still there.  So i ask the question.  Having done the right thing,  having marked it for the safety of other boats, having marked and reported its location.  After fisheries have tried and not been able to recover it.  I asked if i could now try?  Fisheries have responded, but before i post it, i'm interested in peoples thoughts.

Go.

A Good Thing ?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-11-20/later-start-to-mandurah-crab-season-flagged/6958460?WT.ac=statenews_wa

Personally, I reckon this would not be a bad thing.

Not many size ones about this time of year and would definatelly help to keep the dickheads away from the undersize crabs !

Jurien Bay - Feb

Hi,

Heading to Jurien Bay at the end of Feb for a few nights and haven't fished up that way before. Wondered if there are many here that have and what kind of species might be on the bite that time of year.

Also gonna be doing a couple of dives for crays so any advice on what kinda depths they are usually in up there would be appreciated.

Thanks

Good Large Filleting Boards?

Hi there, Not sure if this is posted in the right place or not...
Just wondering what people use (other than ironing boards) for large filleting boards when they get their fish home?
Found a good Rapala one but can only get from the US. Basically something that's washable/durable plastic.
Sick of hubby getting p*/* with his set up!!
Thanks for any help

Stolen Prado 1BOU747

Had my silver 2003 GXL Prado 1BOU747 stolen last night from Mandurah Ocean Marina area ( from a locked garage!). Has chrome bullbar and a full cover to rear mounted spare wheel. Also Hayman Reese towhitch with tow ball fitting in place. Also took Waeco CFX50 fridge from garage.

Degree in Recreational fishing law required

Just heard on the radio that the snapper laws in Shark Bay gulfs have been relaxed, with an allowance of 5 kg of snapper fillet in possession. Guess you will have to leave skin on for road transport ID.

Rod Butt Protectors

Anybody know where I can get some of those butt protectors locally ? The ones they have been using on IFISH that slip onto the butt of your rod instead of using a gimble belt. Cheers in advance.

Hi, wanting to go on a charter with some mates, have been on one but over 10 yrs ago. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, but if it's worth it I will. Who can help me decide on one ?
