Have to Vent
Submitted by A-SALT-WEAPON on Tue, 2015-09-22 09:59Being doing the hard yards, been out night fishing 5 times in my 3.2m car topper in the sound, 3 times with devo (fw member). Night on the 5fathom bank, last thursday night north end of garden island amongst 30 other boats with another mate. NO SNAPPER. Everything else KG, duies, whiting , herring, black butts, tuna.
Im frustrated as im seeing these photos up here of all these snapper and i cant get 1 ha ha.
Well last night went out i was the only 1 there , i thought this is it, my time to shine.
Burley out, baits out, working soft plastic waited couple of hours. Bang rod took off, line screaming this it, the 1 ive been waiting for , grabbed the rod , Big head shakes snapper for shore , fish ran out wide of boat 50 pound braid 80 pound leader got him covered was a big fish struggling to get him up of the bottom , he turned, went straight for the wreck pop goes the braid ARRR. I was screaming like Robson Green, choice words coming out of my mouth suprised Rockingham couldnt here me.
All over , packed up me tackle box, rod under me arm and sobbed all the way home lol.
Well..... try again tonight i suppose ha ha Ill get 1.
(Had to vent to someone misses sick of here me)

Walpole Family Fishing Fun Day - This Saturday 26th September
Submitted by Daniel Y on Mon, 2015-09-21 22:06If anyone's heading down to Walpole with the family this weekend for the school holidays, come down to Rest Point on Saturday morning and join in the family fishing day that Murdoch University and the Department of Fisheries are putting on.
There will be a free children's fishing clinic to teach kids the basics of how to catch estuarine fish such as Black Bream, Flathead, Whiting etc, and to promote sutainable fishing practices, correct fish handling and caring for the marine environment.
While the kids are fishing, adults can find out about current fish research that Murdoch and the Department of Fisheries are currently undertaking in the Walpole-Nornalup Marine Park, which includes about acoustic tracking of Black Bream, Flathead, Tarwhine and Pink Snapper.
Hope to see some of you there!

Talica 8/10 2 speed vs Saltiga LD20/30 2 speed
Submitted by rocklobster on Mon, 2015-09-21 17:42Hey everyone,
What are your thoughts and experiences with the aforementioned overheads? I don't get out often enough to warrant several outfits so i'm setting up an allrounder overhead combo for driftbaiting, bottom bashing and trolling and have my eyes on these 2. I've read good things about the Talicas but not much about the Saltigas. I've picked up a FWA pe 3-5 300gm rod for a steal so rather than get a tld or saltist etc i've got a bit extra cash for something better. All opinions and thoughts much appreciated!
Cheers, Paul

Reel service
Submitted by lachieH on Mon, 2015-09-21 17:33Hi everyone, my names Lachie, I'm 15 and I service fishing reels. I only do egg-beater style reels because that's the only type that I have been properly taught how to do. I do the new reels that need a touch up to keep them performing at their best, I do the old reliable reels that you want brought back to life or the second hand reels just bought, so that you get the best experience out of your new reel. I live in Rossmoyne (about 20 mins south of Perth on the canning river) and that is also where I do the servicing. Currently I charge $20 for each reel serviced and don't offer any discounts for servicing more than 1 reel because the price that I service for is very competitive already. I also don't replace parts because many parts can be hard to find and the shipping can be extremely costly. If anyone would like their reel serviced please email me at or pm me or send me a private message on Facebook (Lachlan Hartfield).
Also I will be away for the whole school holidays so therefor I will not be servicing reels then but I am open to any other time! Because of all my schoolwork and a generally busy lifestyle, it usually takes me about a week to complete 2 reels.
this job is something that I do instead of working at maccas or something so I put my best ability into every reel that I complete because it takes priority over everything except for exams!
thanks,
lachie

Tips fishing Green head
Submitted by mallesh on Mon, 2015-09-21 15:54G'day Friends,
Heading to Green head on Friday arvo with couple of mates.
Frist time fishing in the area, a general advise on where and what depths to look for will be much appreciated.
My boat is a coralline 5.8 ocean runner. Type of fishing will be bottom bouncing, mainly bait fishing.
Other mates with bigger boats venture out to 60's and 80 meter even further, but I am not confident being new to the area.
So asking for some local knowledge and tips please.
Note: I do get seasick on big rolling seas that's other reason not going too far.
Thanks in advance.
Mallesh

Saltist Nero 4500 Review?
Submitted by Hiramasa on Sun, 2015-09-20 06:22Im looking to put together a 50lb bottom bashing, tuna trolling outfit and was curious if anyone is using the Daiwa Saltist Nero 4500, thoughts etc? I dont use 50lb much so dont want to spend a lot of $$. Just after a good quality workhorse that will be nice to use and do the job. I'll likely be matching it to a 50lb Hiramasa rod or similar. Any thoughts appreciated, cheers!!

Does freezing fish for a week or so improve its table fair?
Submitted by br3nno on Sat, 2015-09-19 01:40 So a friend knows someone who owns a trailer in shark bay. They gave me some real top quality fish, it was probably put in an ice bath, filleted then strucked to perth.
Now I've caught whiting, snapper and dhufish myself. I bleed all my fish and eat them fish. But this fish was probably a week fresh and it was the best tasting fish I'd ever eaten. I think it was a snapper species, but anyways, does freezing for a bit improve the taste?
Cheers

Catching sand whiting, is it me or?
Submitted by Rene80 on Fri, 2015-09-18 19:27Evening people,
for the last two days i have been testing my light gear to catch some small fish.
i have made up a running sinker rig with a long shank hook and two of those red fluoro plastic beads on it.
Using Gulp! Camo 2" worms and i seem to have a LOT of nibbles, wich is asome, but the amount of nibbles and hook ups are very different. If the hook up rate was close to the nibble rate i would have had a whole freezer full of em.
i am using gamakatsu long shank #10.
is there something i got/doing wrong here, or are the just hard to hook up?
fished at various times troughout the days.
all off the rockwall behind the marina in mandurah
in the last 10 mins i hooked up 3 tarwhines wich seem to fight a bit better too, are the more a night kind of fish?
