How many rods can be used from a boat.
Submitted by MandurahMatt on Tue, 2014-03-25 22:35It states in Rec fishing guidelines only two rods may be used from shore at a time, but no mention is made about boats. If I run a four lure spread on my own will I get into trouble with fisheries?

Fishing fremantle
Submitted by KevHuntley on Tue, 2014-03-25 20:36Hi everyone , brand new to this site and tbh new to the fishing scene bar all the years as a nipper the old man took us around the UK. I'm just looking for some advice in regards to fishing at the e shed docks , now I know a lot of people turn their noses up at the place and I do understand but it's just a good spot for myself to get back into the swing of things. I went down tonight bowt 4pm - 8pm .. Have bought a small 6ft light rod for which I thought I'd catch the live baits on which I attempted with some success before getting the thing snagged under the pier doh ! And on my larger rod I stuck the little fella on a 3 gang set and instantly caught what I think was a juvenile pink snap ( could be and probably am wrong ) but as it was small I tossed it back. Can you use anything small you catch for live ? Also should I weight my live or use a float or cast it free .. If I do lose all my bait catching jigs what's the best way to grab a few .. Tried just with a small ball lead small hook and abit of prawn and caught what the fella next to me said was a herring but had no joy with said fish .. Anyway good to be back rod in hand any advice on fishing the shed would be class .. Just trying to see as much action to fully reignite the passion

saragosa parts cant find
Submitted by cell on Tue, 2014-03-25 19:20hi guys as you all probably seen and heard i had all my fishing gear stolen back in January. So while i am here i will say a BIG THANKYOU to all the fishing fanatics and fishaholics that helped me out i have been given abit of gear and am not far off being able to go out fishing with family and friends and not have to scab gear lol.
Anyway i managed to pick up a Saragosa 8000 older model and it is missing the two silver cover plates on either side of the reel, would anyone have a set plus screw lying around(Hopefully) i have tried shimano and they cant help i have also tried ebay and the sorts but to no avail, the reel looks good i got tournament 50lb braid on it so would just like to spruce it up (plus remove the blutac that is stopping sand at the moment from getting into the gears).
Also have a 560 slammer and need the little screw cap thingy that goes opposite side of reel, would anyone have one of these at all on a reel that is maybe buggered.
Thanks in advance guys and any help would be appreciated, i know it is a long shot but some of you have been fishing alot longer then i have and some1 might just have a broken or buggered reel i could get parts off

Exmouth Feb 2014
Submitted by Pondy on Tue, 2014-03-25 12:38Just returned from a successful trip to Exmouth for 5 days land-based fishing plus 3 mornings trolling.
Weather was perfect and we couldn't have asked for better results.
For land-based fishing I use a Daiwa Sensor Surf 1302HRS Rod with the butt trimmed down so it's now a 12ft rod.
Saltiga 6500 Reel spooled with 80lb braid. This combo casts large baits, has great stopping power and lands much bigger fish than you would think.
On the boat we used a Saltiga LD40 Overhead with a Saltist Demon Blood 5'6 (rated to PE 3-5) and a Saltist star drag on a Saltist 5'6 Rod.
1.Queenfish 2.Cobia (Black Kingfish) 3. Whaler 4. Yellow Fin Tuna 5.Barracuda 6. Mack Tuna
7. Spanish Mackerel (2 pics) 7. Another Tuna 9. Lemon Shark (2 Pics)
All fish were catch and release except for the Spaniards, YFT, Spangled Emporer and Mangrove Jack. We had YFT sashimi and mackerel steaks on the bbq which were both top eating. We also took home about 20 frozen mackerel steaks. Some of the night photos aren't great but the fish were landed and released quickly.

Steep Point Gear Suggestions
Submitted by Chonga on Mon, 2014-03-24 22:33
Hey guys so I'm heading up to steep point for the first time towards the end of august with my uncles and such for 3-4 days and I need to get some new gear for fishing up there. Winds permiting will be ballooning as well as spinning and such. Was thinking bout going for the 9ft lemax President royal if i can find one in town anywhere for a spinning rod but I'm not sure what reel to put that with. Then when it comes to balooning im not sure what the prefered set up would be. I was thinking the Lemax president again but I've also read that perhaps short boat rods for balooning could also work? Read alot of good things about the Penn senator 114h as a reel for line capacity and just overal robustness but any other suggestions would be lovely. Probably looking to spend between 5-600 if i can sort both of them out would be great.

Navionics PC App
Submitted by jdavies_99 on Mon, 2014-03-24 17:02Hi Guys,
Does anyone on here use the navionics PC app?
It looks like it is no longer supported/available from Navionics.
Please note that this is not the same of the Apple or android navionics app. This is designed for PC and used to come free on their website if you owned a navionics card.
Out of curiosity, does anyone else use this program??

Coral Bay deep drop
Submitted by Remedy on Mon, 2014-03-24 16:28First time post, so bear with me.
We are heading to Coral Bay at the end of the week for 2 weeks, and am curious if anyone has had any success on Ruby Snapper/ 8 bar cod from the waters around the 300m mark.
Have never done this style of fishing, so any tips would be appreciated.
was thinking of heading north of town, and then dragging lures back home along the 200m mark in hopes of a black or 2

Metro mackies 'cross' Metro dollies and wahoo 'tick'!
Submitted by Paul_86 on Mon, 2014-03-24 16:01Well me and a mate who doesnt get out fishing very often (his second time out on a boat to be exact) headed out this morning chasing some metro mackies which have alluded me for a long time, and still continue to do so! We started out at first light trolling just behind the 3 mile, plenty of bait schools up on the surface and down deeper but couldn't see anything attacking the bait tho and didnt have any luck there. With the weather looking great we decided to head out deeper for a troll to try get my mate onto a tuna that he always bugs me about wanting to catch! So out to the 100m mark and deploy the skirts. No action on any of them for an hour or so as well trolled out way to the PGFC fad. But that tured out to be a great idea, switched to some small skirts and done a pass first about 50m's away and from the fad and was on straight away! Nice little dolly for my mate. Couple photos and into the esky, skirts back out and second pass and my mates on again, another nice dolly for him! So going for our 3rd pass and my mate told me its my time to catch one so I was on first strike, sure enough the rod went off so I jumped up and grabbed it but didnt have much weight to it, winding it in to see its a tiny tuna about 20cm's long, but noticed a few dollies hot on its tailed, one dolly grabbed the tuna but the spat it out while another swooped across and grabbed lure skirt my mate was winding in and he was on again, this time to a bigger model! So now it was 3 dollies to him and he was over the moon! Great to see a green horn so excited! So back to trolling, go for our 4th pass and have a big hit but dropped it, bugger. Things went a little quiet then, must have spooked them after hooking and dropping a fish. So we troll away from the fad a few hundred meters to give them a little break, do a few wide passes and then come in close again and after a few passes start to head away when we get a hook up. I grab the rod and start fighting the fish, at first it's pretty mellow and is an easy fight to the boat until it gets about 5m's away and see's the boat and takes off like a rocket, fastest I've heard a reel scream! After a 5 minute battle we get sight of my first ever wahoo, so some careful boat manoeuvring and a good gaff shot and it's ours! So stoked! So no mackies in the end but who can complain with a day like that!

Stradic FJ or Salina III
Submitted by flexn on Mon, 2014-03-24 12:32Looking at buying a new all-rounder reel for soft plactics, jigging and pelagics. Looking at getting either a Stradic FJ 4000 or a Salina III 4000. Stradic has 10kg drag 10 year warranty and the salina has 14kg and lifetime warranty.
I was sold on the stradic but now having a look at the okuma I'm not sure. The salina looks better on paper.
Anyone want to share their opinion? Heaps of info on stradics not much on Salina

Chasing mackies tomorrow
Submitted by Paul_86 on Sun, 2014-03-23 19:19So I'm lucky enough to have tomorrow off and im dying to get into some metro mackies. Spent heaps of time trolling the 3 mile the last few years for 0 mackies. So with tomorrow's forecast looking great I'm thinking its maybe worth heading out further or around rotto maybe.
So has anyone got any hot tips at the moment or general areas to try, these elusive metro mackies are getting the better of me!
I did just see Alfreds post about what he seen this arvo, so maybe out deeper isn't the key?!
any thoughts or opinions welcome
cheers Paul

Feeding frenzy
Submitted by alfred on Sun, 2014-03-23 17:24I haven't wet a line for some time, but I sure was tempted today.
I was on the beach between Ocean Reef and Burns Beach and there was this huge feeding frenzy going on, bait fish jumping all over and some of the biggest splashes I have seen for a long time. It was a good way out but the hits were as clear as day. Went on for over 20 minutes at 4pm this arvo.

Castledare monster
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2014-03-22 21:47Hi. Down at castledare today. Caught many bream but something strange happened. Dropping a line down and a very large fish was stalking the bottom. Every time we had the humongous bites of this the bream went off the bite. Managed to hook it on the line and wash pulling so hard that the drag was moving out very easily (I cannot even move the line a bit). Strange thing is that the rod was not pulling like a struggling fish either.
this was all on the grassed areas at castledare railway. It snapped about 5 lines of 6lb fluorocarbon leader. Does anybody know what this May have been?
lachie.

rods position when underway
Submitted by unhurry on Sat, 2014-03-22 21:37Hey guys, any constructive comments appreciated:
I will be undertaking an 800km trip with the boat undertow. Because (on a previous trip) I had two rods suffer amputation of the tips by whatever rolling onto them in the trialer I intend, this time, to traqvel with the rods erecr in the rod holders ( at stern of boat).
Now, as I do not see many rigs towed over long distance with the rods erect like this I must wonder "what am I missing?". The only negative I can think of is a stray bird missile damaging the rods but I would appreciate any other points that I have not considered.
Thanks!
