weight of boat
Submitted by Shane O on Sun, 2012-03-25 11:00Hi,
I know this is random question but! I have a fiberglass Gaurdin Cabin Cruiser (just under 16ft) and at the moment i tow it with a Holden Calias V8, looking a getting a Ford Territory Titanium Petrol not deisel. Does anyone roughly know the weight of a fiberglass boat that size?
Also would the Ford with RWD drive be able to tow the boat, not interested in opinions of HOLDEN VS FORD blah blah blah

Quick overnight camping south of carnarvon
Submitted by Tandawg on Sat, 2012-03-24 21:16Hi all,
I am going up to Exmouth in about 3 weeks time. I am looking for a spot just south of Carnarvon to do an overnighter and early departure the following morning.
I will have a boat and camping gear, so plan is to set up a dome tent without pegs and fly just to get some sleep.
Have heard of a spot 60Km south on the east side, and also a spot called Bush Beach. Just a simple "loop" off the hwy will suffice - no toilets nessesary.
Thank you
Chris

if you could only catch one fish
Submitted by bitten on Sat, 2012-03-24 21:01thought this might make for an interesting topic
if you could only ever catch one more fish in your lifetime what would it be, in other words what is your fish of a lifetime
for me it would be a mulloway over 30 kg from the beach, i've done this from a boat but the beach just holds a special sort of challenge

AFL
Submitted by Leemo on Sat, 2012-03-24 18:44With the season finally hitting us with the first game tonight, what was your take on the GWS v Sydney game? I think my biggest suprise is not how well GWS held up (partly), but rather, Chad Cornes can still play football! Haha. I reckon GWS will be a force to reckon with in the next few years..... but this year might challenge Port to last place!

check your insurance
Submitted by hummeldoddy on Sat, 2012-03-24 07:51Gents
A few weeks ago I was fishing at the narrows.
I had 16ft rod out for Mulloway and was spinning for tailor with a 6ft rod.
I had just cast out to the 2nd arch of the brige when 3 asshole hoons in a tinny came screaming over both my lines.
Needless to say both lines caught up in the prop.
My 16ft rod started to go in so I grabbed it - as this was happening the braid on my 6ft rod started screaming out and began to cut in to my hand.
I had no option but to drop the rod or else my fingers would have been cut off.
They 3 guys then started circling around and shouting and then took off down the river.
It had turned out they had stolen some other guys crab nets as well.
I reported it to the police and got a report number.
I then contacted my insurance for a claim.
It turns out I was not covered by insurance as I only had insurance for possesions that are on my property and was not covered for possesions away from my property.
I am realitively new to Australia so was not clued up on insurance matters.
Leason learned: - Please double check all your policies to ensure that you are covered for this type of loss.
My rod, reel and line only cost around $450 but it is money I could have been putting towards buying more beach casting gear.

Tuna report off Ocean Reef
Submitted by Just1morecast on Fri, 2012-03-23 20:56Just thought id report on the tuna i encountered today. Launched at 4 to find a xr6 in the water, turned out the bloke launched his ski and instead of wacking it in drive he put it in reverse haha. I tried to help but some others got there first. Anyway to the tuna, well they are every where i was casting at them only 100 from the shore and had a ball. Unfortunately i didnt stand a chance on 8lb. Hooked and dropped many but had one for 40mins til it came to the ski and busted me off, around the 8kg yellowfin it was. Amazing site to see the water alive so close to shore. Hope you all get into them while there here also plenty of little whaler sharks moving around with them but they seemed to be feeding on the white bait the tuna were.
I found metal lures the go 10-20 gram. I hooked one on the 40 gr but the bait were only 5cm. They wouldnt touch a halco laser pro trolled at all. Some big tuna too i definitely saw some in the 15kg range massive guys just free jumping everywhere. Got some go pro footage but hopefully land one soon and post it up
Cheers

Stella sw5000 opinions
Submitted by cudbfishn on Fri, 2012-03-23 20:25Hi all. Im looking at upgrading my td advantage 4000. Reel will be used for demersal jigging matched to a HR sylphy heavy Pe3 which my advantage feels perfect for at 400 grams. Is the stella 5000 to high a gear ratio for jigging or is it negated by the fact that the spool is so small. I cant justify the price difference between the stella and the saltiga for a reel that will only be used a handful of times a year (cant realy justify the stella but oh well). I can get the stella for $750 and the cheapest I have seen the saltiga 4000 is $1050. Or do I import the SW5000PG? would prefer to buy local.
Any help will be appreciated. Cheers in advance.

one bloke - two rods
Submitted by Beanz on Fri, 2012-03-23 18:51hey fellas just looking for some advice on using two rods at once off the beach. tried it last weekend and ended up running back & forward between the two as the one in the pvc was always getting the bites then id swap and the other rod would get hit.
i was/am using an 8 footer with gangs and spoon sinker and a whole mulie (or two half mulies on separate hooks) and a smaller 6 footer with smaller mulies pieces or prawns and hanging onto that one. i throw the big rod out and let it sit the throw out the little one and hang onto that.
do i need to set a really light drag on the rod that is sitting or do i need to look at a different set up rig wise or am i just unlucky.
cheers

Yanchep/Two Rocks Advice
Submitted by evilhomer on Fri, 2012-03-23 14:20Hi all
After some success with tailor last week in north metro myself and a mate are heading towards Yanchep/Two Rocks area for the day on Saturday, I am not looking for a hand out but it is my first time fishing this area and pointers in the right direction would be great. I have used the search function and found a bit of info. You can PM if you dont want the info public.
We have no 4x4 unfortunatley! So accesibility is a probelm for some spots. Any advice greatly appreciated and as with last week I will stick up a report.
Tight lines to anyone fishing the weekend!!

Thinking of going camping/fishing at Coronation Beach the week after Easter - advice needed
Submitted by John the Pom on Fri, 2012-03-23 13:26I've had a look through some threads on this topic but can't find exactly the info I need.
Basically we're looking at going camping as a family up there the Tuesday after Easter Monday.
As its the family going I need to know a few things as we've not been there before and I've only read abou tHe place in the Guide to Free Camping in the North of WA book (great book btw).
So a few questions:
Youngest is 5, is it suitable for her?
Will it be windy?
Is it mainly camping, fishing or both?
What people does it attract? Will there be other families or idiots tearing round in 4wd?
I know you can camp on the beach, but is there camp spots further back?
According to the book there is a reef with good snorkeling, is this correct?
What is the fishing like straight off the beach?
Sorry for the list, I just needed specific info.
Cheers

About a 2 weeks ago i was de-hooking a slippery trumpeter when i felt one of its dorsal fin spikes go into and snap off in my little finger. getting splinters all the time at work i didnt think any thing of it and was kinda hoping in would just come out by its self like timber does. But 2 weeks later its still in there and startn to hurt a bit.
