Help for an old Fisherman.

I know this is a long shot, but because of circumstances beyond my control, I'm wondering if anyone out there can help!!!

A few years ago, an old fisherman who has been going out every week for the last 40-45 years, had the hard word put on him, and he had to sell boat, car & his way of life.

He was given my phone number on the idea that I needed to learn how to fish, and he wanted someone to take him out fishing. In return I would have his spots.

Of late i.e. the past 6-12 months I have not been able to take him out. And he is sadly very desprate, as he is 78-79 ish and is aware that the big fishing ground in the sky may be tomorrow.

My problem is time and a suitable deckie, because there needs to be a crew of at least two, he is practicly wheel chair bound, needs to be lifted in/out of the boat, can walk but very painful. And has other problems now that we won't mention.

If anyone is prepared to help this old tough (and I mean tough) bugger can they send me a message. Even one trip to one of his spots would be the world to this guy.

From my point of veiw, I feel very quilty that Wife, off spring & house must come first, and he misses out.

Forgot to say that the area is the coast of Perth, he would take a taxi. Cockburn, Fremantle, Hillaries.

14ft Dinghy - Wheres a good spot to take her out on the open water?

 Hey everyone,

My cuzn just bought a 14ft aluminum dinghy and we want to know where some good places are to take it fishing, places which are obviously suitable for this sized boat. Would love to get out in some deepish water for a fish but not sure whether it would be appropriate, if anyone could reccomend any good spots that would be great. Dont mind if its a bit of a hike- jurien, busso etc.

Cheers,

Ganged Hooks & wire leaders

hi

I have only recently started fishing with ganged hooks and am using them for tailor fishing, I went to buy some today and noticed the shop had some which were joined together with swivels, can anyone tell me what the advantages / disadvantages of using this type of gangs are ?

I got bitten off three times on Sunday night and am considering using wire leaders, I was using a 60lb mono  leader, I have read on a few internet sites that using wire leaders can really put the tailor off the bite, can anyone advise me on whats best to use for tailor ?

thanks

Stradic 8000 suitability for Jigging

Hello all,

I am in the process of trying to decide what kind of spinning reel I am going to get. I have been looking in particular at the stradic 8000 as it is quite well priced and also comes with 2 spools. This would give me the flexibility of using 1 spool for medium duty saltwater spinning (20-30 lb line) and the other for jigging (50lb braid).

My question is, has anyone used one of these for jigging before and will they be able to stand up to use with 50lb braid jigging for sambos etc.

What alternatives are there to this reel??

Thanks,

Dan

woodys squid.

Well its only a couple of days before the kids have to go back to school so we decided to have some fun on the water. With light winds on offer drifting in four metres at parmelia bank was a joy.

It didnt take long for us to get six onboard with Jesse getting pick of the bunch with a hood of just over 300mm and his sister Emma picking up a couple of beautys. There was yelling and screaming at times with all three rods going off at the same time and trying to dodge flying black ink which I didnt, but the kids come out with not a bit on them which they thought was bloody funny .

With the snorkelling gear on board we shot over to garden island for swim and with the water so clear it was hard to get them out of the water after an hour.

On the way back to the ramp we picked up another couple of average sized squid and then headed home for the fun part of cleaning the boat and squid.

It was a top day to finish off the school holidays with the kids going back to school and me hopping on a plane back to Telfer for a week. Lightly crumbed squid rings and salad topped the day of nicely.

Seaswirl 2301 w/a or Boston Whaler 235 Conquest for north west?

I am looking to import a boat from the US and looking to spend about $30-40k USD on the boat. I was nearly sold on a 2006 Seaswirl 2301 W/A but then did some research on the Boston Whaler 235 and 255 Conquest. Any suggestions?

Rod and Line Advice

Hey guys,

I have a new certate 3500 which i want to use for casting 20g to 50g metals and also for light beach fishing.  So...

I am looking for a recommendation for a 9' 4-8kg rod that will really belt a lure out.  Up to $300

Second, what line?  If mono, then I am thinking of 5-6kg.  But if I got 15lb braid, can I expect a better cast?  Not really sure whether mono casts better than braid or if its even a legitimate question because the two types of line are so different.  Mono is really easy to flick around compared to the knotting you get off beaches with weed if you are using braid.  What do you think?

Fish Aquarium.

Not sure if this is really of topic or not :D

I'm guessing quiet a few of you have a fish tank/s

I'm just wondering i have a 120L tank and a 500L/h internal pump, water is clear but i rekon i can get it a lot clearer with a better pump.

What pump should i get? internal? external? bio wheel? theres so many options.

Tomorrow I'm going to get a gravel filter so i can get more air into the water.  Also want to upgrade the pump or add in a pump. Any suggestions?

much appreciated.

15hp honda engine cover

hi guys

just thought i would try on here first!

i am chasing a engine cover for our 15hp honda , it is a early square shape, bf15a is the model number.

not worried about the condition, color or stickers.

my co owner hit a under water rock at kalbarrie and the engine cover jump off and sank to the bottom...ha ha ha ha...he did jump in and try to find it, but to no avail.

shouldnt laugh as its not funny(it is realy), but whats the chances of that happening?

or dose anyone know of a outboard wrecker in W.A, dont mind paying for post,

they want $700 for a new one with no stickers, thats extra.

the engine only cost us $400 to start of with!

thanks in advance

full of surprises

My wife expressed an interest to go fishing recently so keen to make the most of the opportunity. I know she'll lose interest pretty quick if nothings biting so looking for a good spot in the metro area to go? Haven't fished for a while so not sure whats biting.

Think somewhere like maybe e shed, point walter maybe.Somewhere with easy access (no rocks to climb) Target whiting, herring etc.

Cheers,

Adrian

fueling barge hits Freo railine bridge.

I said four years ago we  going to have a major fuel spill one day in Freo harbour and an incoming tide will carry it all the way to Guildford.

This was a very close call and more reason to remove commercail shipping from Freo harbour and to a better suited port where a major marine fuel spill will be contained.

We got very lucky this morning, it could have been a death warrant to the Canning and Swan River!!! Thats not a small vessel to be crashing around!

The new breakaway impact clips (IMP2); Clever little devils, or useless little ......?

I have been using the old IMP clips for a while, great things and true to the claim on the packaging they really were clever little devils. Added a good 20m to the casting distance with a scalie and 5oz. Picked up a pack of the new ones from blue water about a week ago, called the IMP2. Either im doing something wrong or these are one of the most useless products I have ever come across!

The idea, for those who havent used them, is that it clips your hook to your sinker, stopping that hellicopter action during the cast, making the whole package more streamlined. When it hits the water, the impact of the water on the bottom part of the bait clip pushes it back, releasing the hook and bait. This means that to use these clips the leader to your sinker needs to be longer than the leader to your hook and bait. An added benefit of the clips is that you can use a light leader to your sinker which would break during the force of the cast without the clip. This is because during the cast the sinker is clipped to the hook, so all the weight goes through the hook leader.

So heres the problem! In the new IMP2 clips, the part referred to on the package as the fast link (I'll call it the frame) has been extended at the top by about 5mm and is now made out of a weaker material (see pics 1 and 2). This solved a problem the old clips had, in that they used to be very difficult to put together, generally requiring a pair of pliers if assembling more than 5 at a time. They are now very easy to assemble, but the problem is the extra 5mm and the weaker material means when loaded during the cast the part of the frame that the bait clip (the bit you clip the hook on to) is attached to, bends out away from the rest of the frame, allowing the bait clip to come loose from the frame and after a few casts, falls off (See pic 3).

I was fishing someone else a couple of months ago and their clips kept falling apart, I couldnt understand it at the time but now with a closer look at this new version it all makes sense. I was hoping there was a new way of putting them together or something but after speaking to the guys at bluewater where I bought them, they had no explanation and after a bit of discussion seemed to agreed it was a dodgy product. The boss didnt seem to agree as I wasn't offered a refund ($20 for a pack of 10 by the way, not cheap) but as I said to the guys its not about the money, its the fact that a good product has been replaced with a dodgy one and the shops seem happy to stock it?!?

Im still hoping someone can point out something im doing wrong. Used to cast 8oz sinkers with these things, then fishing on Friday destoyed them using 5oz. Has anyone else used the IMP2 and had the same problem, or is it just me? Anyone know where I can find the origional IMP clips?

Cheers,
Adam

Jetty Crash

This 7m vessel collided with the jetty at JoJo's Cafe, causing extensive damage to the boat and jetty. Picture: Nine News Source: PerthNow

A MAN is in hospital after his boat smashed into a jetty at JoJo's cafe in Nedlands this morning.

The 7.2m vessel collided with the jetty about 1.30am, causing extensive damage to the vessel and to the jetty.

The skipper of the boat was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment for chest injuries and a knock to the head.

Insp Steve Bradley said police divers were called in to make sure there were no other passengers on the vessel.

"The vessel has taken on water and is in danger of sinking," he said.

"It is not known at this time how or why the collision occured, and police and marine officers will investigate the matter."

BIN LADEN IS DEAD

Boat/Car accident Easter (NW Coastal Hwy)

I have just returned from a week up in Exmouth which started on Easter Saturday.

About 120Km south of Carnarvon (10.00pm) we noticed a brand new 6m glass boat smashed on side of road with its trailer mangled about 32m away ( opp side of road).

West side of road we saw heaps of personal items like fishing gear and items strewn in the scrub with a 4WD wheel.

The crash had been reported as it had the orange sticker.

I hope no one was hurt, but it certainly looked like carnage.

Does anyone have some info about this?

Chris

New to Perth - Need fishing spots

Hey there.  I am new to perth and have mainly only done river fishing on the murray.  I am wanting to do some sea fishing, but i do not have a boat.  Just wondering what the best spots are for good eating fish.  Also what types of jigs should be used or bait fishing.  Love going for squid.  Am willing to travel around 45 minutes to an hour from Forrestfield to get a good catch.  Have tried woodies on the short rock wall and the end of the car park as i was told this was good but did not have much luck.  Possibly due to my setup of rigs.  Rig setups would also be a great help.

Thanks all,

Help (Rod Tube Needed Urgently)

Gday Guys & Girls,

Ive got a big favour to ask...

Im heading up to Exmouth on Friday the 6th May 2011 and usually drive but this time Im flying and I cant get all my rods to fit in my 6 inch PVC Rod Tube.

I was hoping someone would be interested in selling me theirs or even better lending it to me for 2 weeks.

I live NOR but would be happy to drive to collect.

I would prefer a Carmate Rodtube or a Sportube Guide Case but not fussy as long as it holds 10 rods for my Monte Bellow trip.

If anyone could help me out I would appreciate It.

Thanks SamC for offering me yours buddy but you need it for the following week :)

Cheers
