Connecting 240v device to 12v car battery
Submitted by buschy on Sat, 2011-05-14 22:37Hey folks,
Looking at connecting up a flouro light with a 240v mains outlet to a spare 12v car battery (so I'm not concerned at running it flat). It's just for a couple of hours at a time between recharges.
I'm pig ignorant and despite a bit of Googling (which has left me more confused) still have no answers.
Can anyone here explain to me in laymans terms?
Cheers,
Buschy

Broome Land Based Options??
Submitted by merman on Sat, 2011-05-14 11:41Hey Fellas, heading up to Broome town next week for a bit of a wander and an explore.
Any input on Broome land based options?? Was thinking Gantheume point to chase a coupla bluebone!!?? Float a livey off the bank in Barred Creek and a bit of lure chucking.
Will probably end up taking a quick look in at telegraph pool/Willare Bridge COuntry too.
Got any ideas, I would like to get onto a Barra but know its the wrong season now and have heard that the Threadies have been thick.
Cheers.

Heading up to Coral Bay soon. The missus has let me loose to get a new fishing outfit. I am interested in knowing what you think is the best rod and reel set up for some light bottom bashing for spangos etc inside / just outside the reef towards north passage. Spin or O/H.

Sandy Cape Advice Needed
Submitted by buschy on Thu, 2011-05-12 19:27Still trying to find a mulloway. It looks like I won't be going as far north as first hoped so I am tossing up between going back to the area north of Leeman (which to be honest has never looked like producing a mulla - despite info to the contrary) - OR - heading up to Sandy Cape.
I've visited Sandy Cape a number of times, although only fished it once without success. There should be some nice gutters starting to form around now so figure it might be worth a stop for a night or two.
Can anyone give me any advice on whether I am better off targeting the sheltered area close to the main camp sites, or hitting up the more exposed areas to the south? I have a 4x4 so don't mind doing the hardwork to get to decent spots. Am I better targeting the gutters or looking for reef structure?
Going on a scaly mission soon - so will be using scalies, mulies, potentially blues and hopefully whiting as bait. Whiting being my first preference but it depends if they are around.
As far as rigs I try to use running sinker, 2x snell hooks...sometimes gangs...just depends on the bait and conditions.
I guess any tips, secrets, hotspots, etc on the area would really be appreciated. I've been chasing this mulla for going on two years now and don't seem to be able to move on and try and different types of fishing until I get it.......so it would be nice to nail it. Even if it's a 30cm schoolie! :-p
Cheers,
Buschy

FISHBROOME?
Submitted by chriso 308 on Thu, 2011-05-12 15:57I'm heading up to broome in a couple of weeks and i have booked a charter with fishbroome to take us reef fishing.
I only picked them because I have seen them on iFISH , Mark Berg ,ET and a couple of other shows.
are they the pick of the charters?
do i take my own gear?
I've been reading a lot of Exmouth charter horror stories of hand lines and shit food and morons that no less than me about fishing !
I'm hoping these guys aren't like that?
does anyone have anything to put my mind at ease?

Greenies Big Idea Has A Monumental Flaw.
Submitted by Howard George on Thu, 2011-05-12 15:45It would not come as any great surprise to anyone that the green movement want the public that eat fish to rely on fish from fish farms to supplement their diet than fish from the natural marine environment but an environmental think tank has produced a report which raises fears about the effects of fish farming. This can be viewed by going to abc.net.au/environment and clicking on" ocean and reefs" Sustainable Fish Farms but what they're saying is that fish farms are not sustainable because they rely on fish that are used for food from the natural marine environment and that the polution that they create destroy the environment. For this reason as part of my submission to the federal Environment Minister I'll be requesting that the ammount of Sanctuary Zones in the Southwest Zone " 76% "be reduced to aid the fishing industry put fresh fish on the table. I'm thinking "50% " reduction.

MALDIVES!!!
Submitted by chriso 308 on Thu, 2011-05-12 15:37Can anyone tell me anything about fishing in the Maldives?
I'm going there in Nov and want to know do i take some rods and tackle? or can i hire a decent charter when I'm there I'd like to do both but would rather not bother if it is crap.
can you fish from the bank or over water bunglows?
what sort of money are they asking for charters?
I can't seem to find to much info about the place ( fishing wise ) on the net , does anyone have any advice for me?

Be aware.
Submitted by Brody on Thu, 2011-05-12 11:49Here is a link to the proposed Perth Canyon zone which is pencilled in to become a Multiple use zone, which will exclude things like Scallop Trawling and Demersal Gill Netting etc, and allow Rec's to fish as per usual. If this goes ahead it will be great. But be prepared as I can see the Greens fighting pretty damn hard for this area, which, as you can see spans an area very popular with Northern Suberbs fishos.
All i'm saying is don't be content with the map that you've seen and sit on you're hands, be pro-active and make a submission.

Stupid,stupid,stupid
Submitted by 3315B on Thu, 2011-05-12 07:26Page 9 in The West Australian today.
Oh dear
The trio were lucky to escape with their lives after nearly being swept off the rocks at Salmon Holes on Friday. Last month 18-year-old Mohammad Reza Mirzaie drowned at the same location.
Albany Sea Rescue Squad member Murray Martin captured a series of dramatic images of a king wave engulfing the men on the notoriously slippery rocks.
Miraculously, the men managed to keep their feet. After that they continued fishing.
"When it hit them I just thought, 'Here we go, we're going to have to do a search here'," Mr Martin said.
"It just astounds me that these people are so thick. How damn stupid can they be?"
ASRS president Jason Howard described the actions of the fishermen as "utter stupidity" and said they were doing "everything wrong".
"They had no flotation, they're wearing heavy clothes, they turned their back to the water and they're standing on wet slippery rocks," Mr Howard said.
"They were extremely lucky not to get washed off, all three of them."
After 15-year-old Nathan Drew drowned at Salmon Holes in 2003, a trust was formed to improve safety along the south coast.
Chairman of the Nathan Drew Memorial Trust, Theo Newhouse, said it was "devastating" to see people still fishing at Salmon Holes.
"There's no need to fish off those rocks, it's just too risky," he said.
"The chances of those men surviving if they went in were very, very small. Very small."
Mr Newhouse said the trust's safety message seemed to get through after Mr Mirzaie's death on April 2 but a small number of people continued to risk their lives by fishing off the rocks instead of the nearby beach.
He said he knew of 18 people who had slipped into the water at Salmon Holes in the past 12 months but were able to escape with the help of the flotation devices that the trust provides on site.
"(All those people) were very lucky to survive," he said.
