Submitted by Matt T on Mon, 2017-01-16 16:58Hi all,
Anyone know where would be good to give prawn drag netting a go?
Would love to get back to the old family times of dragging a net around and cooking up a BBQ for the kids!

Urgent Outboard Help needed
Submitted by Superfish on Mon, 2017-01-16 15:40Mate has a VRO 1989 V4 115HP Outboard that is taking up to 15 or twenty times to start when cold first start in the mornings. If you give it two much manual choke and over rev it when cold an audio alarm comes up. After we get the motor going it runs like dream and normaly starts fine for the rest of the day. It has us both scrating our heads as to how we can fix this annoying problem. Mate has googled before and some guys said to disconnect the oil injection and go back to pre mixing but we both thuoght that was to radiclal and could damage the engine.
Any help would be awsome thank i am sure my mate would donate a carton of piss for someone who can help fix.
Thanks again Greg

Tailor around perth.
Submitted by Tamaedwards on Mon, 2017-01-16 15:12Hay guys, iv just moved up from bunbury to perth and was just wondering about any good fishing spots, estuary/rocks/beach. To fish for tailor/herring or anything you guys think would be best to fish for around this time. Have alot of old tackle 4-5 years old so im also looking at buying some new stuff if there is anything that will help me catch some fish give me a heads up :)
I have a normal fiberglass rod 7" and may be looking to get a good beach rod if there are any suggestions. Just starting to fish again after 4-5 years. Any help would be awesome as i was wanting to go out all tonight/tommorow morning and night. Also dont have a 4wd

Do other states have fish ruler stickers
Submitted by Comrad on Mon, 2017-01-16 12:11Hello All,
I've been watching a fair few Australian fishing videos on Youtube lately (often east coast), and I notice people are always using brag mats, rulers, etc... to measure fish, but I never see them using a fisheries ruler sticker. Does anyone know if the stickers are just a Western Australian thing? I love the stickers, and find them so useful, I'm surprised I never see them in any videos.

Newbie seeking help with Whiting in Cockburn Sound
Submitted by stumpie on Mon, 2017-01-16 07:43Hi Guys
I'm fairly new with fishing in the sound and still learning.
I've caught squid and herring from a boat around success bank, parmelia bank, carnac etc but each time we try and fish for whiting in these areas in the sand banks all we get are blowies and trumpeters. I use a pre-made whiting rig and squid for bait with very little luck.
Wondering if the more experienced fishos here can offer some advice.
Thanks in advance.

91 vs 95 vs 98
Submitted by Kakkerlak on Sun, 2017-01-15 17:17I have a yamaha F90 on my boat and was wondering what fuel to use. I was told 98 was much better for the jets but 98 is very expensive so I've been compromising with 95 untill I fillled up the other day and saw the fuel contained 10% ethonol which cant be great for marine motors...I think. Is 91 ok to use or will I run into major issues in the long run. Any advice appreciated.

Tent recomendations
Submitted by rj on Sun, 2017-01-15 10:40Used to go camping every weekend with the wife prior to kids and want to get back into it. Ive still got all the gear but want to upgrade the tent as i have a oztrail 6v plus which was great for the 2 of us over a weekend but am looking for something bigger and more sturdy. I want a large canvas tent that we will set up for 2 weeks at a time in a caravan park so am not worried about set up/pack up time. I like the idea of a 3 room tent so the kids can be 1 end, me and the wife at the other end and all our gear in the third. I have been looking inline at the Oztrail Chatteau 12 but am a bit worried it might be too big and wont fit in a lot of caravan sites. I also want to see one setup prior to parting with that much coin. I cant seem to find a descent camping shop i Perth that has this style of tent in stock or set up to view-all they have are thw done style set up or the black wolfe 360 which is a bit small for what i am after. So my question is what have any of you experienced either in relation to a quality camping shop or tent experiences currently or in the past.
Cheers

MOB Kill Switch
Submitted by Broady on Sun, 2017-01-15 08:04Anyone use one of these Fell Marine kill switches??
With a few on the incidents over the past twelve months this may have been useful, most recently thinking about the lucky bugger at Exmouth. I see a few comments in the media about keeping the kill switch tether attached to yourself, however this isn't possible in a lot of boats, mine included. This looks like a plausible solution, just wondering how well they work?

Dinghy dhuies
Submitted by scotto on Sun, 2017-01-15 07:29A 2:30am wake up had me debating whether yesterday was going to be worth it, but after 2 stops to collect the crew, we managed to beat the crowds and hit the water sub 5am. Car park was already pretty packed though!
The weather forecast was definitely off the mark, but nonetheless we stayed dry, and it was reasonably comfortable, despite the slop. The first few spots were quiet, so when the wind backed off a smidge, we pushed out to the 40's. BOOM, masterstroke!
straight into them! Dhuies, big, and thick! We all got onto them, and aside from a whoppin big black arse and foxy, decided to pull the pin as we couldn't get away from the big dhus. Kept 2 around 8kg and 14kg, and cruised back to the ramp around 10:30am, home and filleted with red cans by 12:30. Definitely worth it.

position of motor when travelling
Submitted by Shane O on Sun, 2017-01-15 06:26I have seen some people put a block of wood between the transom and the motor when travelling on the road, I have also seen some people with braces between the boat and the motor.
Not sure if the mercury comes with any bracing installed on the motor that folds out, is this something that should be done?
Does it put stress on the boat if the motor is trimmed up when travelling?

Anyone NOT Head Out Today
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2017-01-14 18:09Bloody hell it was worse than xmas time at Hillarys with cars queuing to West Coast Drive at 6:30. It all moved fairly well though and we were in within 20 mins.
Really struggled today on the berley and anchor at Scarb reefs landing a few wrasse, a gunnard and I got a 42cm Dhu at the spot we caught a 57cm model last year in 11m!
Went on the troll and saw a few birds and a couple of splashes but weed clumps made it too hard work so settled on fishing some broken ground in 23m and got a good feed of very plump sand whiting.
The water was magic mid morning and we stayed out once it turned to avoid congestion retrieving but boy were we wrong as it was a good 40min wait to retrieve. Some douche in a rib decided to drop his mate off at the floating jetty and reverse his trailer in front of my boat and then they completely fucked up the drive on missing the trailer and the prop almost chomped the boat across as well as the concrete ramp then he trimmed it right up and ran it dry and they had to walk into the water waist deep to retrieve it. Haha. Man that made my day.

Submitted by Alan James on Sat, 2017-01-14 14:44Too easy, have a look here.
Sorry the facebook link doesn't seem to work. It shows a SA bloke using an electric beater spindle (like those that you use in the kitchen) attached to a cordless drill. Works a treat. Never seen this before, most ingenious.

Point Peron ramp
Submitted by luke george on Sat, 2017-01-14 12:29This morning we had to park on the grass at point Peron boat ramp along with 50ish others as all the parking bays were full. We returned to 2 rangers/council workers dishing out parking fines, luckily we just missed them but alot of others were not as lucky.
We spoke to them asking what we are meant to do when the bays are full and 1 ranger replied "if you can't find a bay you can't go fishing from here" and "you can launch from bent street" since we were heading to west end this didn't seem like much of an option.
I thought the reason we pay for our fishing licences, boat and trailer regos etc was so we can have access to ramps like this one and have ample parking provided?
To top it all off the ranger vehicle was parked in bus only area, probably because there was no where else to park....
double standards

Sea anchor position
Submitted by Tom M on Fri, 2017-01-13 15:50Wanting to get a discussion on the position of the sea anchor when drift fishing Front / Rear / Side. WE generally set up anchor to the front to fish from the side to allow for 3 to 4 fishermen and usually keeps the rope clear when playing fish.
What are your reasons for what you do??

Mackerel Islands - Thevenard / Direction Island - March 2017
Submitted by AHarman on Fri, 2017-01-13 13:01Hey guys,
Been reading all the previous posts on the MI and decided to pull the pin before no.2 arrives late April. I am planning on heading up mid-late March 2017 for 5 nights with BIL and a mate. Will be heading over in a 6m Haines and trolling for the usual pelagics, bottom bouncing past the suits etc. Thought i would send out the feelers to see if anyone else is keen to get a boat and crew together, or already planned a trip!? My boat is full sorry. Would be awesome to get a few fellow FW members out there same time! Considering renting DI to have the place solo - but Thevenard is closer to Rosily Shoals.
Aside, any tips and/or recommendations would be great lads.
Cheers,
Adam
