rod choice for thunder bay, is 8ft to short?
Submitted by Bazooked on Tue, 2014-07-01 22:24found a couple of possible candidates that have been marked down in price but they are 8ft and seriously ballsy, cant use graphite for fear of breakage when dead lifting fish from 30+ meters, so the question, is an 8ft rod to short?

Shimano 4000FX
Submitted by lachieH on Tue, 2014-07-01 16:08Hi everyone. I got a shimano FXL a while back when I hardly did any fishing. It came with some 4lb mono that's really bad and is fuzzing up in a ball in a number of places. I'm going to unspool it and put on some 6lb or 4lb braid and try to make it a better casting reel. Is this a good idea? Or should it be used for heavier stuff than bream and flathead fishing in the river?

Buy-sell ethics
Submitted by psion on Mon, 2014-06-30 16:34Interesting question?
Background:
a while ago A guy posted a reel up here for sale, he was asking $30-00 more than the price of a new one "delivered". I "p'm'ed" him. He replied to me and took it off the forum, waited for the sale to finish and then reposted.
Now nothing wrong with that, He decided that was the price he wanted and was prepared to wait until he got it.
So full of bravado I did it again, this time it was a rod, sent the guy a pm as he had a 2nd hand rod up for sale for 200 and they were on special for $180-00. No response from him at all, (which is his perogative) and he left it up for that price and sold it within a few days.
Now the question, having told him privately. If he leaves the price as is do you mention the "better deal" on his post, or is that "bad form"? I cant help thinking that, by shutting up some-one has potentially been ripped off.
I've seen guys comment on better prices on some posts and I have appreciated the comments as both the buyer and seller, where do you stand?
cheers

Skippy spots out of Hillaries
Submitted by Poppy on Mon, 2014-06-30 16:32Hi guys.
I haven't been up this way for very long. I have a 4.5 metre dinghy and have found spots for herring anf whiting and have caught the odd skippy, but was hoping to target the species in the next week or so. Without giving secret spots away, could someone give me a general idea of where to go to catch a feed. I went to a spot off Scarbs the other weekend. It was about 2-3 miles out and showed some promise. I was mobbed by wrasse, so shifted and got onto some nice sand whiting. Any help regards skippy will be appreciated.
Cheers

Cockburn Sound.
Submitted by cobia15 on Sun, 2014-06-29 16:49Good to see the fisheries looking so good in the sound. went out yesterday in the tinny, anchored up 500mtrs of shore. apart from it being a perfect day, about 3.30 the fish came on and we scored several pinkies to 48cm.. all released but looking good for the future. also caught a small shark, rays, herring and a couple of lost baby sambos. the sound was almost glassed off for most of the arvo made for a very enjoyable session.

Bomani has two styles of tents. Four on ground level and Five on stilts. Each with a bathroom ensuite and the honeymoon tent even has a ball and claw bath for the mrs!
Ill let the pictures do the talking.

electric reel connection to power source
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sun, 2014-06-29 14:32G'Day Guys
I'm looking to make a better connection for my Electric reels to the power source rather than the existing clip system which tends to be a litte too susceptible to disconnection in a moving boat.
I've read on here that there are connectors that people use for this very thing. Appreciate if someone can tell me the name of these connectors and where I might get them from. Also what would be the best size cable to run from the battery to the connectors. Are they waterproof ?
cheers

Dawsville Divers
Submitted by Ol Tom on Sat, 2014-06-28 19:38The big swell and maybe a little bit of greed has cost me. I cant say that I have killed it as far as crays go this season but have recently started to get a few. Because the season is due to close I just wanted a few more crays to see me through. So the worst thing you can do when you are on a good thing is change. I decided to put the pots in a different area in big swells.
I now have a pot stuck 3kms from the mouth of the Dawsville cut.
If there is anyone who can help get the pot out by Monday 30th (before season close) Please let me know. I will pick them up and take them out and provide the bevies.
Thanks

The first of the Titans
Submitted by Bunny on Sat, 2014-06-28 05:30I was going to wait until both rods were built but mine will take a while so here is the first.
A basic build based on my good mates requests and I really like the end result. The open thread work exposes the Carbon weave and it has come up great.
The blank is the 5'6" ML and the total build weight comes in at 211 grams or around 7.4 ounces. The rod is rated to 45lb so a similar class to the JM Three Kings Special and Fallings UL rods. I'm impressed with the light weight of this rod and mine will be much lighter again. For one I'll be using the new Fuji Torzite guides.
Fuji Alconite K guides and a SIC tip, Fuji VSS size 17 seat with night camo grips and Fuji rubber butt cap.
I hope my mate doesn't see this post before he gets this as it's a birthday present.
