Northern Fishing Advice

Hi folks, I have a week holidays to kill so I am looking at heading north for a quick fishing trip.
I am chasing ideas on where & when to go for some good L/B fishing like Quobba etc.
I am thinking of dragging up a camper trailor around the end of August to save the hastles of booking chalet style accomidation.
Been boat fishing north to Exmouth for about 14 years, but do like the L/B for a change.
Thanx in advance for your help.
cheers Rob

Marlin Fishing

Hi All

I am off to ningaloo/exmouth in september and im chasing as much info and insight into trying to catch my first marlin from my boat.

I am a noob when it comes to trolling as we havnt really done it before.

I will be taking a couple of outfits set up for just trolling for macks and hopefully a marlin. I already have a couple Tyrnos 30s so will be spooling them with mono Not sure weather to go 30lb or 50lb though? Do i have half a chance if a marlin does decide to take the lure on these reels or do i need to run 50w reels?

After reading most topics about it in the search function i will be dropping into Oceanside to get some richter soft oscars and soft grassys.

Can any one help me with what i will need? And some advice to a noob to help catch our first marlin

Cheers Jayce

Saturday morning

Hi everyone. In Saturday morning I am planning to do a bit of tailor fishing with lures and mulies at trigg but when I looked at the swell for trigg I thought there was no chance of catching a tailor. So does anybody know a good beach for tailor fishing for Saturday?

Squid Tentacles

So who here eats the squid tentacles?

Recently i've taken some mates out to get a feed but when it came time to clean them they either wanted to keep the tentacles for bait or throw them away

If you coat and fry them up I reckon they can be tastier than the rings

Went down the beach for a quick fish last night and the Mrs caught a nice 70cm+ Mulloway and all I got was a bloody Wobbegong!
About time she starts baiting her own hooks I reckon.....LOL

How do you keep your feet warm in winter?

Thinking of heading out in the boat tomorrow but I havent really fished in winter before. Ive got plenty of warm clothing but i usually get around in the boat barefoot. With it being in the low 0's the next few days im a bit worried im going to be getting around on a couple of ice blocks! Has anyone got any tricks to keep your feet warm especially with getting a bit wet launching and retrieving?

Land based pinkies

Exmouth Sharks!!

G'day all,

I have just come back from a 10 day fishing trip at Exmouth and I now know how bad the shark problem is up there. I found some pretty good ground not too far from Tantas and decided to give it a drop. Out of our total hook ups I'd say only approximately 15-20% were landed and at some stages we could not get any fish up at all. If the sharks weren't there we would have bagged out in no time. I spoke to some of the locals and they mentioned there's talk of perhaps attempting to thin out the numbers however, they said it would cause conflict with the greenies and militant conservationists.

More often than not fisho's now have to sacrifice more fish to sharks in the hope of landing a couple to get a feed. We tried moving spots multiple times but still the sharks kept taking our catch. In the 10 days we were there we would have lost 30-40 quality demersal species (Prob reds, spango's, chinamon, Robbos sea bream etc) and that must have an effect on the sustainability of fish stocks especially if everyone else is doing the same thing.

I believe some action needs to be considered before it starts to put people off visiting there for fishing trips (If it hasn't already). Why can't a commercial fishing boat start fishing there and sell it to fish n chip shops? They'd clean up!! Haha! It's a tricky problem because how many do you cull to confidently say it's enough?

Would be interesting to know your thoughts on this subject and if anyone else has been horrifically sharked like we just have.

Cheers

Ben

Winter tailor

Just looking at all the posts in tailor fishing over the past month or so and everyone is catching their pb tailor on lures. I was down at trigg last Sunday morning and everyone was using bait and not even a bite! So is it lures or bait for winter beach fishing for tailor? If it's lures are just normal stick baits all right?

Lures on sale

Hey guys! I went up to the Bluewater Tackelworld sales today and picked up a few little lures for stupid cheap! Only paid $1.50 each!

I honestly have no idea what to chase with them though, I only got em because they were so cheap! Could you help me out a bit?

What would smash these lures? What kind of places would these lures be best used in?

Anything will help.

Cheers in advance

-John

Where's peoples respect for others gone when out fishing

The other week I was fishing about 20nm off rockingham got out to my spot which is a little ledge about 30-40m long with a 1m drop at one end and about 0.5m at the other end. had a few drifts got a few small dhuies and breaksea we never saw a boat the whole way out but after about an hour a boat showed up and started fishing about 30m away much to my disgust but knobs will be knobs.

but within the next 30 mins i had 3 boats come flying past doing about 25knots within about 20m one only just missing my drift anchor float and another 2 more boats pull up and start fishing over the same spot. only good thing was a big school of norwesters came past and all 4 people on one boat and 2 on the other boat hooked up and me and my mate both hooked up ( using stradic 2500 c14 with 8lb braid on a nano 2-4kg flicky and 100mm squidy fish plastics) everyone else had a blowy or a double blowy and I got a 710mm dhuie and my mate got a 510mm breaksea to say we danced around acting like they were both a metre long to rub it in was an understatement we left soon after crossing over a trail of floating blowys and corona bottles from the other boats

next trip out I'm putting up my dive flag and going to have another flag drifting 50m behind us and anyone who comes within the 50m keep clear zone is going to cop a barrage of squid guts from the mutton bird slingshot

What is up with people being to lazy these days to put in the time and effort to go out and find their own spots

outwide

When 46 mile nw of bunno last week got to my spot an there was anouther boat 50 m away  what would u do? Fish it or head to next spot 10 mile away ???

Seeking advice please

Gday fellow fisho's.... Im heading to Perth in Sept/Oct for a bit of RnR and definitely fishing as much as possible. I'll be staying in CARRAMAR for one week.
